VS 2008 - Create An Application That Will Login Our Company's Intranet Portal Via A Webpage

Sep 12, 2009

I am trying to create an application that will login our company's intranet portal via a webpage. The webpage has a single frame in it that loads a secure(https) login form. After logging in, the application will need to read and send xml to and from the portal. I have been digging around and have seen a few different ways of submitting the login information from the program to the site, however, I have not gotten any of them to work. From what I can tell it is difficult to change the values of input boxes that are inside a frame. Am I accurate on this? There will be a large amount of data transfer between the app and the portal so I will need something lightweight but I have enough room that I would rather not reinvent the http/web-browser wheel if at all possible. The reason I say that is because I have read that some objects that handle web pages are very resource hungry. I have no preference on the .net frameworks as this is the area of VB thats kinda confusing. What I am looking for is either a point or violent shove in the right direction.

.net - Updating A Webpage From A Desktop Application?

Aug 20, 2011

've written a desktop application in VB.net which gets data from numerous serial devices and graphs it in a windows form. What I'd like to do enable remote users to view this data remotely from a web browser.

So, is it possible to add a webpage to a desktop application which could be dynamically updated from from my windows app or do I have to rewrite the entire application in asp, flex or silverlight so it can be viewed remotely via a web browser?I'm not familiar with asp flex or silverlight and have only developed desktop apps using vb.net 2010 on win7 and XP.

Retrieving The Windows Username From A Logged-in Machine Through An Intranet Application?

Oct 19, 2009

How can an application, running on a production server, access the login username of the machine that a user is accessing an application from? For example, I am currently logged into my machine on the INTRA corporate intranet. My username will be INTRAUsername. I have added specific usernames to a database and wish to check this intranet username against the database to restrict access to an application and leverage the username across the application.Currently, I am using the following code to access the username:rivate username As String = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Namehis is working great on localhost, but when authenticating against the database on a development server, I'm getting the following error:

Using The Web Browser Control To Generate Screenshots Of An Intranet Application Developed In ASP.NET

Mar 21, 2012

I am using the web browser control to generate screenshots of an intranet application developed in ASP.NET.

The screenshot is generated, compressed and then stored as a BLOB in the database. When I developed this facility I investigated the best way of compressing the image (to the lowest byte size), however the images still seem to be too big as the database table is growing larger than I hoped. I am using the TIFF format, but I am now thinking that this may not be the best as it is used by photographers (who I assume require good quality photographs). Here is the code to compress the image (before it is stored as a BLOB):

Is it something dealing with the permissions set with the database server or something? I am new at .NET programming and I have been spinning my wheels on this for the past couple of days and I am at a loss. From what I research, this error should only occur if I was creating a web program, but I am not. It is a windows application.

Forms :: Make An Application That Allows The Manager Of The Company Whether The Employees Are Truly Active?

Sep 18, 2011

I want to make an application that allows the manager of the company whether the employees are truly active: screenshot and a "timer" to measure the time of the activity of the employee Can be controlled using the mouse or keyboard while the application is not active, but in execution. Is it possible in vb.net to know if the user of the machine is using the mouse or keyboard? My idea is to set a "Timer" which triggers automatically after the connection of the employee and every 10 seconds the application checks whether the mouse position has changed or a letter is entered on the keyboard except the"Timer" Will Be stopped until have a new mouse position or activity on the keyboard. But the problem is: is the application able to know the position of the mouse or to capture all keyboard input even if the application n 'is not active(not in the foreground)?

C# - Deploy An ASP.NET Application As Desktop Application (with Server Component)?

Jul 7, 2010

Question: I created an ASP.NET web application. Now it originally was meant for deployment on a webserver. That is working, so, so far so good.My question now is: Is it possible to deploy it as a desktop-application, too? That is to say the installer installs some kind of server, plus the web application, configures the server to run this application on a localhost URL, and then creates a link in the start menu/desktop, where it opens that url (website, the application) on localhost in a web browser?

I think it should be possible, though the server wouldn't be IIS, because this is a windows component which can't be separately installed. Is there anything like this already out there The nonplusultra would be that it only starts the server when you click on the shortcut.

PHP + SQL Server - Desktop Application Can't Be Replaced By A Web Application?

Jun 22, 2009

the system is going to have two front-ends - one web application and one desktop application. The desktop application is going to be coded using VB.NET, and the web application in PHP. There's really no reason why the desktop application can't be replaced by a web application as well - except that one of the programmers seem to really want to code it in VB...However none of us have experience working with either of these pairs .

P.S. hosting service will be gotten from some provider and not be on the client's own server.

Vb Write To Text Box While Application Is Still Waiting For HTTP Request

Jan 23, 2012

I have a form in VS2010, written in VB, and it has a subroutine calling for information out on the web using an httpwebrequest object. It takes a while for the response, and I would like the subroutine to write a message to the form (into a Label) for the user to see while waiting for the application to respond.

I tried writing the message with a Backgroundworker and then as a second thread. I got it to write the message, but it always seems to wait for the http response before writing the text. How do I write the text immediately, while waiting for the data?
