Mar 23, 2011So my program allows people to download/upload text files from an FTP server... But... is this safe? I've always been a little scared with FTP because I fear that some lowlife is gonna hack into it. Is there another way to do this? Or is there a way to make this connection much safer?

May 3, 2011I am making a windows form and through this form i want my users to upload and download files stored in a Directory on a machine running windows 2003.Could anyone please tell me the best and secure way to share files on a directory for users to Upload and download and "without letting the users to know the actual path"..User Clicks on a Button and it will automatically download the files from server.User Clicks on another Button and it will automatically upload the files to server.The file name and paths will be taken from labels which are hidden on my form so the user doesn't need to specify anything..I have 3 Options and looking forward to some expert opinion on this. Jul 19, 2009I am only allowed to use HTTP in my school (ie, no FTP is allowed). and i have to upload some file from a specific folder on my PC to a web page at 1 hour intervals automatically (ie, every hour a file is dropped into that folder, and i have to get a windows service or desktop application that would automatically detect the new file, and the file finally show on my website page, hosted on the school server.) Remember, the files reside in a folder called DAT on my personal computer in my office.

I read about WebClient + NetworkCredential, but it doesn't seem to provide progress infos. There are also the FTPWebRequest/FTPWebResponse classes from WebRequest/WebResponse, as well as WebClient.UploadFileAsync.

Aug 12, 2011Is there any way to download multiple files at the same time from a remote server? How I am doing it currently is I get a list of files from the target folder on the server then I loop through that list & download each file 1 at a time. For 100 small files it takes about 45 seconds. I'm guessing that the bulk of the time it takes is logging in to the server for each file to download, so 100 files means it has to login, download & logoff 100 times. Is it possible to login just once, download the 100 files then logout?
