View 6 RepliesI am very new to Visual Studio Application Development. I'm mostly a DB guy. I used Visual Studio as a Report Designer, not much of an .Net guy though I can understand it. I am now asked to create a .net application and I'm trying to create a "Hello World" starter app. I opened my Visual Studio, click File-New Project and all I see is Business Intelligence Projects and Other Project Types. My step-by-step guide says choose Visual Basic, Windows Forms Application. But I can't see it as an option.

Does anybody know how I can render openGL into a Visual Basic 2010 picture box?If you havent already done so please delete the abusive posts that responded to my original enquiries. I have decided to start a new thread on this subject rather than in an existing thread because it's more convinient for me.
View 9 Repliesi have installed visual studio 2010 32 bit on my new computer which have windows 7 64 bit. Everything seems ok. But now I try to learn how to draw some spheres with movement. I have tried to install openGL2 but it does not work or said that it does not fit with 64 bit, or it works only with VC.
Could any one, please, give me a short introduction to install and use open GL in vb.net 2010 installed on windows 7 64 bits ?
Does anybody know which version of Visual Studio 2010 contains the full set of Visual Basic SharePoint Templates? I am about to embark on a project to create Visual Web Parts to be used in a SharePoint report.
At the moment I am using Visual Studio 2008 and even though the WSPBuilder is installed none of the relevant SharePoint templates are present.Having searched SO and the web, most advise to install the templates via the Visual Studio command prompt: devenv /installvstemplates
Alas the Visual Studio command prompt is also missing from my VS2008 installation. So, the question remains: which version of VS2010 contains what I need for pain-free SharePoint development? There is a rather large price different between VS2010 Professional and VS2010 Premium, so can anyone tell me if the cheaper version (VS2010 Professional) contains all the Sharepoint templates?
I am just wondering how I can add Direct X references to Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. I cant find them in the .NET reference list, or the reference list, or anywhere. I downloaded the Direct X SDK for August 2009, but I can not add the .dll files to the reference list. Is there anything I can do to add them? I need the references for programming reasons.

View 4 RepliesJust curious. I recently had an incident in which I was called to troubleshoot a VB Winforms app. I have 2 versions of a package (LeadTools) installed on my machine. These packages contain numerous dlls and it is not unusual for a dozen or more to be referenced in a single program.

I have verified at the time that it disappears that the Min is 0, Max is 100, and Value is a valid integer in range.
View 9 RepliesHow do I disable the background compiler for Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008?
For my sins, I have to work on a large VB.NET project and it often locks up for 20 seconds at a time whilst doing the very helpful background compilation
I'd rather work blind between compiles and be able to do some work.
I am trying to make a console program in Visual Basic on Visual Studio 2008. I want to ask the user of the program if he wants the premium version or the standard version. If he chooses the premium version, then I want it to say premium in his "receipt" later on and if he chooses standard, then standard in the receipt.

So if I am working on a project in VB.net (really any visual studio project), I am able to create folders. My project is getting rather unweildy (over 30 classes) and I think it would be beneficial to store for example data structure classes in a folder "ds" and user controls in a folder "uc". Is this OK? Will it affect the way I reference the classes? Are the folders simply for my own use and structure or do they actually have some kind of impact on my project as a whole?
PS in case you are confused, I am referring to the structure shown in the "Solution Explorer". Sorry if this is a dumb question or not clear, but I have never worked on a large project like this before.
When ever i publish the project, i get a bunch of deployment files and a setup file. Even after running the set up there is no .exe file.Is this just VB .Net way of opening the file now? Do i even need to use the installer? My program uses very basic math with list's and datagrid views.
