I am developing a small application using VS2008, the mdiparent has a expandable panel with Button 1 and Button 2 on it, which opens up child form 1 and child form 2. ( The two child forms are maximized within the mdiparent form)
The problem is, button 1 opens child form 1 and button 2 - child form 2. I cant open the two forms randomly. I have to close the topmost form to access the other forms below it and vice versa.

View 8 RepliesI am working on fixing a bug in VB that is giving this error. I am new to VB, so there is some syntax that I am not fully understanding. The code that is throwing the error says:
.Row(itemIndex).Item("parentIndex") = CLng(oID) + 1000000
I understand that adding 1000000 is too much for an int16. I can't change that value (not right now anyway). What I don't understand, and can't seem to find, is what .Row is referring too.

One of the things I loved about VB6 is that you had the ability to tell the development environment to break on all errors regardless of what error handling you had set up. Is it possible to do the same thing in VS2008 so that the debugger will stop on any error even if it happens inside a try-catch statement?

I've made some good progress with my first attempt at a program, but have hit another road block. I'm taking standard output (as a string) froma console CMD window (results of dsquery piped to dsget) and have found small rectangles in the output. I tried using Regex to clean the little bastards but it seems they are related to the _ (underscore), which I need to keep (to return 2000/NT logins). Odd thing is - when I copy the caharcter and paste it into VS2K10 Express it acts like a carrige return?Going to try using /U or /A CMD switch next..
View 2 RepliesI am a beginner on Visual Basic but was able to create the 'skeleton' of the application I need to build. Basically, it is an application dedicated to keeping a check on the vinyl I have. When I buy a new record, I want to effectively 'Add New Record' on Visual Basic and be greeted with a page consisting of various forms such as 'Artist' and Title'. Once these are filled in, I want to click 'Enter' and for all that information to be converted to one of the pages within my application.

In the 'Add New Record' page I want to also have a drop down list with the above elements in, once 12" LP is selected and all the other forms are filled in and I click 'Enter' - I want the application to send it to the 12" LP section of the application.
I have a little project but ive come to an error. What it does: It goes to a site, fills a form and then submits it. But the submit is too fast. I want it to fill in info, then wait 3 seconds and then submit it.

I need help to form a code for a small arrays manipulation. The input data are known: they are two integers "N" and "s". An integer "N" is always divisible by 4.I need to create an array of "N" members, by repeating (N/4 times) this sub-array: 1,2,2,1 (always is the same). In the picture, this is shown in blue. Then I need to add the same array to the existing array, but shifted for "s" places (red array). The result is "yes" if each sum in new columns is always the same (3). Otherwise the result is "no." note there is no need to draw or display something (DGV, table ...). The required result is only "yes" or "no".

i am creating a shift rota system for a small number of staff basically there is a 3 week rota
week 1 - late
week 2 - early
week 3 - off
i am getting confused on how to calculate which week the member of staff is currently on eg week 1 / 2 / 3 i think i need a datediff with a mod to calculate it but thats where im getting confused (if im even right on that part)
I'm trying to create a small game in VB2010. The gameplay is as follows:
civilians would walk/stand in a room/street and suddenly an evil character would pop from the ground/wall. This evil character would suddenly vanishes too. So, the player has to shoot it to kill the character. The evil character, civilians, etc. would be random. Also, there would be sound effects too. That is the popping up of the evil character, it's voice, the civilians voice, etc. I'm trying to make it as simple as possible but without degrading the quality of the game play. I think, I could somewhat create the graphics for the characters, scenes, etc. and can get the sound effects recorded.
So, the difficult part is,[ ] how could I make it a smoother for playing the game ?
[ ] what would be the best way to do animations ?
[ ] Creating a GIF and placing it in the picturebox and moving it ?
[x]how to play the music in background and at the same time play sound effects on certain instance ?

View 6 RepliesI'm basically trying to do a small report card project. I only need to pull 5 Students with each student having 5 Test Scores a piece. The full Code of what I have for the submit button is below. I have actually 3 questions.
1. I always seem to have trouble with them unless I initialize them when I dim them. Is there a better way than below
2. The below code works really well for Student 1 and all 5 test scores. Rather than do that code 5 times though, what is the best way for me to basically state that IF dblStudent1(intMax) = 4 Then Change dblStudent1(intMax) to dblStudent2(intMax) etc.
3. Would this be better suited towards a multidimensional array ?

trying to get my hands wet on vs 2010 and i downloaded samples from ms site but when i tried to run some of the DB samples i received this sql error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) any ideas how to get around on this?
