vshost.exe crashes when I type something in a TextBox with AutoComplete enabled. It doesn't give an exeption in visual studio.

I am running a simple test app that opens an OLEDB connection, retrieves a single value, then closes. The compiled (console) app works fine, but running it from the IDE causes either a silent close (if it's a winforms app) or a crash of vshost32.exe if it's a console app.
The devenv is VB 2010 Express on Windows x64, but I have the configuration manager on the solution set to "Debug" - "x86".

The application is like a client for a game site. I made it for the fan site i am apart of to help the members of our community.The application crashes when you click play on the game at the site. Before getting the list on typing the final. This makes for a lot more typing and seems to be a retrograde step ... is there an option I'm missing? (I have 'Auto List members checked in the Text Editor options under 'Basic').
I am building a autocomplete on my textbox. Really simple and it works really fine. But I like to do the next thing. When there is a match in the list and I will click on it. then i like to have a function.

View 6 Repliesi have a texbox TextChange event which every time when a user hind a character in it , am querying data to my database and display that data under a datagridview control.but my data now have been grow up and still going, every time am enetering a character to the textbox is taking time to query that data and if the user type a quickly word then a lag occures to the textbox.
i have seen a lot of programs and microsoft programs that when a user is typing is not seacrhing anything unless the user stop typing .with out having any other event of focus lost or anything.can i do that also in my application with an easy way and avoid using timers or any complex way?
i've got my basic AutoTyper ready (well and one with autoupdating etc in it) but it's only a singular line. [Code] What I want to do it to type multiple lines, I know I'll have to enable multiline on the TextBox. I want it to type one line per time interval using 1 timer. I don't know how but I know it would have to count the lines but from then on I'm stuck. I will need to make it type line 1, then on the next loop line 2 and go on until it's reached the amount of lines from the count then repeat from line 1. [Code]

I am developing an appilcation which requires a text box with auto-complete/suggestions (drop down) for multiple words (seperated by a delimiter like space) like the tags text box here in SOF. E.g. I start typing 'app' it should show all words in the suggestions list starting with app, and when I enter a word and press space and start typing a new word it should show all suggestions for that part-word.

I have a problem in my database I have something like 5000 codes stored like code, description, quantity, price, firm. I have a function to extract all the codes from database , it takes about 4,4269 ms to extract all 5000 codes with description and everything... in an arraylist. When I want to put all codes from arraylist in a textbox autocomplete, it took about 2305,400 ms and I think this is a big problem the function to put in textbox autocomplete all the items from arraylist:

I'm using a custom webbrowser to display a special intranet for my company.I need to be able to display a custom keyboard whenever the user can type in the webbrowser. So if they click on a textbox within the page to type, this custom keyboard appears.when the user is in 'typing mode'. I thought maybe checking when the cursor changes to 'ibeam' which is the typing cursor? How might I do that, or is there an easier way?

View 6 RepliesMy client wanted to have a textbox in the Customer form of the application, which offers the applicable endings to a started street name. He starts to type a street name and the textbox offers a list of streets which start with the char sequence he typed into the textbox. Textboxes have the AutoCompleteCustomSource property and even though a list of common street names will be longer than it could be pre-filled on start, I could just hit a database with a query, populate an AutoCompleteStringCollection and show that to the user.
Now here's the thing: If I make the list populate on every keypress/keydown whatever, the program crashes and throws an AccessViolationException. I've found out that that's because: The control is in the middle of showing the AutoComplete list when at the same time it is being modified, resulting in the crash. When you refresh the Autocomplete List, the control is recreated with new pointers. Keyboard and mouse events (KeyPress, MouseOver, MouseLeave, MouseHover) attempt to reference the old control's pointers which are now invalid in memory causing a memory access violation to occur.
The underlying AutoComplete implementation does not allow for changing the AutoComplete candidate list object once it has been set on a window. To allow changing the list, WinForms destroys the Edit control or ComboBox and recreates it. This causes an exception if the underlying control is destroyed while the AutoComplete window is still use it. I read about this on MSDN, their resolution: Do not modify the AutoComplete candidate list dynamically during key events. I know that you can do this by creating a custom control and such, but can it be done with just pure coding wizardry?

Is there a built in way to know when a user is done typing into a textbox? (Before hitting tab, Or moving the mouse) I have a database query that occurs on the textchanged event and everything works perfectly. However, I noticed that there is a bit of lag of course because if a user is quickly typing into the textbox the program is busy doing a query for each character. So what I was hoping for was a way to see if the user has finished typing. So if they type "a" and stop then an event fires. However, if they type "all the way" the event fires after the y keyup. Like measuring the time since the last textchange event and if it was > than a certain value then it would proceed to run the rest of my procedures.

I need to work with multiline textboxes. I am currently developing a web application that was started by someone else. The only problem I have is the text in my multiline textboxes is going to the next line before it needs to. I have played around with settings, removed the textboxes and added them back, and I am still having the same problem. When typing in the textboxes, the text moves to the next line after pressing the space bar.
