Way To Handle Spreadsheet Style Data Entery In Application

Apr 13, 2009

I am new to Viisual Basic 2008 and looking for some help or suggestions on what is the best way to handle a spreadsheet style data entery in an application. What is the best way to have data entry on a form that is in the style of a spreadsheet?I have tried it with the Gridview but I do not care for the interface style.I would like to be able to multiple columns under one heading, allow for tabbing from entry field to entry field on a row and have the ability to sort by different columns,to allow for calculations by fiedls in a row (havoing multiple calculations, etc.Is there something in VB 2005/2008 that will allow that or is there a third party add-on that is recommended.

VS 2008 Build Wizard Style Library To Handle Many Wizards

Oct 6, 2010

I've decided to build wizard style library to handle many wizards and make it more simple to work with. The difficulty is that next step window changes depending on user selection on current form with a lot of controls in each of them. After long time thinking I think best would be to recreate similar to TabControl and TabPage controls and instead tabs would be a in-built command Next, Previous and Finish buttons as default in TabPage control. I've tried something to create similar but with no success yet.

C# - Set Style For An Application So All Controls Are Shown In Application's Color Scheme?

Feb 22, 2012

I would like to set a style for an MDI WinForms application in .NET (mix of C# and VB.NET). I would like all panels and forms to be of a certain color. I would like textboxes to be of a certain color when readonly and of a different color when NOT readonly. I don't want to use defaults. Any pointers on how I can make this GLOBAL for any Form that is developed for this application? Am looking for a way so I don't have to do this logic in every form I create.

PREFERABLY: Don't want to switch to using any third-party tools. Would like to stick with just WinForms and standard .NET libraries.

OleDbException Saying Spreadsheet Is Full When Inserting To Excel Spreadsheet

Nov 11, 2011

I have a VB.Net program that reads in a flat file, and then parses line by line, formatting the data into different spreadsheets in an excel workbook (each line can be any 10+ different record types so I parse and put in appropriate excel sheet).

For smaller sized flat files (under 10mb), the parser works great. However, I am trying this on a file that is over 120mb (400k+ lines). While running, I will get an OleDBException saying that the spreadsheet is full. Now I am pretty confident that Excel can handle a much larger data set than a flat file. So I assume this exception is not giving me the true story as to what is really occuring.

I open a connection, and then parse each line in the file, inserting each row into the excel file. I assumed it would be bad performance wise to open/close the connection between each insert. Could this be causing the issue? Any ideas what I need to do to handle such a large file? There are cases where the flat file can be over 500mb.

To actually do the insert into excel, I am just doing the following (I construct an sql query based on the type of row and values parsed):

Dim conn As New OleDbConnection()
conn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + ExportLocation.Text + "" + importFileName + "-PVF.xls;Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=YES"""

Application Reads Information From An Excel Spreadsheet Into A DataSet

Jul 15, 2010

My application reads information from an Excel spreadsheet into a DataSet (ds1) which is then filtered into another DataSet (ds2) based on user-specified criteria. The information is basically telephone call logs that reflects when a phone call was made, what extension it was made one, how long the call was, what number was called, etc. When the user's "search" criteria is matched in ds1 above, the application adds the number called to a ListBox on the form. When the ListBox Item is selected, additional information (call duration and such) is displayed to the right of the ListBox. My problem is that a single phone number could have been called multiple times on an extension within the date range the user specifies and for each occurrence of that number in the ListBox, the "expanded" info only reflects the information for the 1st call to that number listed in the DataSet.

The only unique identifier I have is the DateTime field for the row (as this goes up to the second). I thought about putting it into the ListBox item, but I'd prefer that this date not be visible until the user selects the ListBox item to view the details for that call. [code]

Excel - Editable Control Should Use To Display My Spreadsheet In Application?

Aug 31, 2011

I have a spreadsheet in excel with three headers:

Project Name The name of a project i'm working on.

Requested Role The job title/profession of the project employee. (example: mechanic, manager, engineer)

The name of the employee. When i click on the Person's name i want another page or tab (specific to this person) to appear showing details about them such as their name, job title, how long they worked, what project they are doing... etc. (similar to a Facebook profile)

When i click on the project name i want another page or tab (specific to this project) to appear showing details about it such as the requirements, the deadline, who is currently working on it... etc.

Furthermore, i would like to set up two levels of access:For the specific pages i was thinking of using the tab control but i want it so that i can search through the list of projects or names, select one, and then it brings up the page about it.The levels of access is the least of my worries.

Import An Excel Spreadsheet Into A Visual Basic Application?

Oct 28, 2009

I have to write an application in Visual Basic.Net that will open an excel file, run through the contents an export a test file for processing.

The application works great for me (Windows 7) but when transferred to a WinXP PC gives the following error: HResult 0X800A03EC

I can replicate this error by making the Excel Application visible so it seems like it is an issue where it can't access the file because it is open. Error occurrs when trying open the workbook.

Original Code
Dim excel As Excel.Application
Dim wb As Excel.Workbook

Accessing Data In A Spreadsheet?

Feb 6, 2012

So I'm a little rusty on my VB.NET skills, but I decided to take up a project to get me working in it again. Problem is I've hit a slight road block and I was hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.I have a spreadsheet (or 3, but they could be combined if that makes it easier) that contain interest rates. I need my program to use user-input to select which interest rate it needs and then calculate and output the grand total, without the end user ever seeing or even being aware of the interest rate table.

Forms - SQL Data To Excel Spreadsheet

Dec 24, 2009

So I need to create a windows form that is able to generate reports by querying a SQL Database or SQL Server. There is data in the databases that will be put into an excel file from whatever columns from a specific table I need. I need it to be a dynamic query that is probably hard coded into the application because I might need to write other queries at some point to generate different reports that need different columns.

What I need is somewhere to start or some code that I can look at because im not very familiar when it comes to vb.net/excel. I need code to get all that data from the database and put it neatly in an excel file and I would like to specify what columns in the excel file all the data goes under.

Manipulating Mutiple Excel-like Spreadsheet Data In .NET

Apr 21, 2009

I have an project which was written in VB6 and made use of the Spread3.0 component to display multiple large data from database in spreadsheet. My objective is to convert this project into a VB.NET current version which would not use the third party component but can possibly use a freeware that does similar if not all the functionality.

My question is, are there any freeware that is available in .NET for such spreadsheet-like manipulation of data programatically? I have come across dsoFramer but this only allows the display of the data in an IE frame. I would like to jus embed the content into my existing form.

Also this freeware must be able to handle formula and user-editing as well as multiple cell type such as combobox/checkbox etc.

Takes Data And Writes It To A MS Excel Spreadsheet?

May 25, 2007

I have a program that currently takes data and writes it to a MS Excel spreadsheet. (automatically opens the program, creates the cells, and fills them with data)

I would like to add an additional feature to my program that offers support for OpenOffice.org's 'Calc' spreadsheet program. (so users without MS Excel can use the application) So I am basically asking if anyone knows how to automate OpenOffice 'Calc' from VB.net. (I am using Visual Studio 2005)

I have searched on the OpenOffice forums but no one seems to know the vb.net code for this. So I was wondering if anyone here has done this, or would know how to do this.

Make A Simple Quiz Style Web Application ?

Feb 27, 2012

I am learning VB at the moment and i'm planning how i'm going to make a simple quiz style web application. I want to have a series of questions, one per panel, that a user can select from multiple choice and proceed to next question with at least one option needing to be selected before going to the next question. At the end users get their score out of X.

Forgetting the validation and other bits i need. My thinking is to use a series of panels that have my questions in, so one panel per question, and by default they are all set no invisible bar the first question. Then as the user selects the question the next panel is revealed and the previous hidden, and so on etc.

Checking File Exists Using Data Extracted From Spreadsheet

Sep 8, 2009

I have been on MSDN about this and searched but it's not quite telling me what I'm after. I've extracted a list of file names from an Excel spreadsheet and want to check whether they all exist in a directory which a user can select in a text box. It feels like I'm nearly there with it but currently my listbox is displaying everything, I want it to just show the files that are missing. I'm a beginner so I'm not exactly sure if I'm even telling it to compare the two things properly, I've tried a couple of ways of checking if a file exists but neither seem to work.[code]
