Dec 11, 2011I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.

Oct 1, 2010When I iterate the media items in a Windows Media Player playlist and set the properties of a user-defined class to the attributes of a media item, the first n rows of the playlist are populated with useful information; however, the remaining rows are empty. If I perform the same operation but access the media items directly (e.g., display the attributes to the console window) then all items in the playlist are populated properly.
Here is an example of the output showing the condition:
Inserting song "The Arrest" from album "Jesus Christ Superstar [MCA Original Cast Recording] Disc 2" into database...

Apr 1, 2010I've been using things like FileOpen, and FilePut for a long time in VB.NET, and it's never presented any problems. However in my latest project I'm using CodeDom to compile at runtime, as you know FileOpen, and things like that are the old VB6 methods, such as MsgBox("Msg"), and these don't work. So I need to know how to do this using only the newer VB.NET code.

I started out trying to produce a single note at a single left-right position, for a particular duration (maybe until i shut it off. with a particular frequency.It can be a sine wave, or a square wave or maybe a general midi sound. This seems to me to be a simple task, but i cannot find out how to do this.I suspect that the answer lies inside direct sound or xaudio2. I want a simple solution i don't want to have to spend 1600 hours learning xaudio2 in order to learn how to how to make a beep.The ideal answer wold be for me to write a routine that accepts waveshape,freq,volume,Stereo_Position,duration).

I am trying to write a media player using the wmplib.dll for playback. Everything is working but I found a one problem I can't find an answer to. How do you find the songs duration before actually playing the song? the code I am using is below.
I get an error when I try to update the slider with the current position. The messagebox returns all zeros. (i.e. 0 - 0 -0 ).

Note 1:
2 DLL Files(Interop.WMPLib.dll And AxInterop.WMPLib.dll) is for Windows Media Player Control, and automaticly add by visual studio.
Note 2:
Visual Studio 2008 / .Net Framework 2.0 / Windows XP & Vista & 7
If use dlls for windows xp(Windows Media Player Control)
run app in windows xp = do not have any problem.
run app in windows vista and 7 we do not have media player control.
if use dlls for windows vista and 7(Windows Media Player Control)
app does not run in windows xp
and we do not have any problem in windows vista or 7.
VB2010 Express Versus VB2008 Express?
Feb 25, 2011Is there any advantage to using the VB2010 express version versus the VB2008 express version? Can they be installed side by side or will VB2010 express replace VB2008? I have no issues with the 2008 version, so I don't know if installing the 2010 version would be of any advantage.

I like to open a working solution/project, mess around with it, and if I cant get it working, I like to exit without saving so that the original working version is left.
But silly VB 2010 autosaves changes, therefore stuffing up, a once working solution/project. I can understand autosaving whilst working though a large solution, but I prefer to click save once I have accomplished a routine, in the solution/project.

Nov 18, 2010I use windows Vista.I had been working intensly on a new program all day today and pretty much all day yesterday. I was almost finished.Then my computer crashed. I rebooted.When I came back into Visual Basic 2010 express, I expected that somewhere I would see my files. Besides... I HAD BEEN SAVING THE FILES ALL DAY LONG USING CONTROL+S on my keyboard. The little * symbol at the top of each file would go away. I assumed that meant it was actually saving my work as I went along. I did not, however, actually go to file->SAVE at any point along the way.
After coming back into VB2010 express, no autorecover dialog appeared. I looked for my project in the list, and it wasn't there. I looked at "recent files" and "recent projects" and found nothing. Finally I searched my whole hard drive for my project, and found only one EMPTY directory located at:
C:UsersDellLaptopDocumentsVisual Studio 2010Backup Files, which matched the name of my project I had spent the last two days working on.
