Write A Login/logout Program For A Local Senior Citizen Center?

I am trying to write a login/logout program for a local Senior Citizen Center. It has been awhile since I wrote any programs so I downloaded Visual Basic Express and started to surf the net looking for help. I found a tutorial showing how to set up a "contact table". This seemed to be pretty close to what I wanted to do so I started following the steps. When I reached a point where I needed to add a "Service Based Database" I got an error message saying "server not found...". What server? Is this something else I need? The tutorial seemed so simple and straightforward compared to many others. There were so many references to "Visual Studio, Visual basic.net , Access, etc.

We develop 2 sites in asp.net, this both use forms authentication, when a user login in one of this sites it work fine, but if login into the second site, it's logout for the server of the first site, the authentication of both sites have the same usecontrol.

I have the membership provider setup and its currently pointing to a SQL database on my machine. The role based access works and I have a menu that is security trimmed. The user can only get to pages that they have access to.When an anonymous user tries to get to a page that they dont have access to it brings them to a login page so that they can login. That is fine. But when a logged in user tries to get to a page they dont have access to(Usually by typing in a URL) it brings them to the login page again asking them to login(except there already logged in. I'd like to either take them to a different page or somehow tell them they don't have access.

I'd like to find a tutorial that shows how to logout after a certain period of inactivity.By logging out, i mean writing a Row to my SQL database. The database table was designed with a column called user_status. When a user logs in, ASP writes a row called "logged in" into the database table. I want to find an automatic mechanism that writes a Row to the database after a certain pd of inactivity

this would be my first post and usually I can figure these problems out, but I am stumped so badly right now, I am writing code to write into a .mdb file, my program uses two login forms, the first reads the data base, and sees if the user name and password is correct. I got that working, my second login form is used for creating an account. This is where I am getting stuck, I have followed and looked for tutorials and I found nothing, my DB is simple, its one table, and two input fields called "Userid" and "password" this is my code to write a new account into these fields

I have got menu bar.In that there is Logout option also.When the user clicks on Logout then it should pop up the msg that "successful logout" and close the current page and redirect to login form. [code] This code is working fine for 1 form but not for other form.

We are working on a media center plugin to show internet tv from a local provider. They are distributing their metadata as this link[URL]..It seems to be an xml list of rss feeds, because if I open the links in internet explorer, I get a nice html page.
My task in this project, is to write an aggregator that read the xml feeds, convert this into collections of metadata objects, that will be used to build the menu in media center. These will be simple List of... objects with categories, synopsis etc.
What is the best way in .NET to make this happen. It isn't even pure xml but rss feeds and I have never worked wit this. Can I benefit from technologies like xsd schemas, LINQ etc to make my job easier?

I want to create a local data store for a login form and but I dont want to use MS access or SQL so what should I use? I thought about using induivual files like config files except they get kinda dificult after a while so then I thought about using XML which may work but I have found no really useful tutorials on this, if someone has a good tutorial?[code...]

basically i want to create a login to my program which uses the same username and password as windows login.I already know how to retrieve username and auto place it in the username box using
TextBox1.Text = Environment.UserName.ToString
i wondered is there an easy way to only allow access if the password matches up to their logon? i dont know about setting up databases but i dont think this option would work because each member of staff can personally choose their password.

I'm trying to write a small app that finds the local machine's IP address (and SNM, DefGW, 1st DNS server, etc) then displays this nicely.
I don't want to go down the route of doing a Shell "ipconfig /all > somefile" then reading it in as I *know* this can be done another way.
I'm using VB 2008 Express Edition.

I'm trying to simply center the label text in the middle of my program.I put the label control in the center of my form. It starts out blank. Then, it receives input from the return values of MySQL commands being sent out to a server.When it receives the message, it displays like this:

.. with the "|" being where the label starts.I'd like it to center the text like this:

Is this possible. Hopefully I explained it clearly. I had no success with the text align property or modifying the anchor property.

I had a problem with WebBrowser component. Basically, it works improperly when try to log in on one web-site (Forex Trading Social Network | Online Forex Trading Forum and Social Networking Site). I am working with Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I created a simple WebBrowser trying to access the indicated web-site. The problem begins. Well, the website loads, but when you go to the login page (Forex Trading Social Network | Online Forex Trading Forum and Social Networking Site) and try to log in, it doesn't work. I mean, when I enter the login details the login page just refreshes itself and the login wasn't proceed. The same login page appear with every login attempt. The is the current problem!I check with Google, it works. But, it doesn't work with Forex Trading Social Network | Online Forex Trading Forum and Social Networking Site! Why?

i have to write a program for my VB class that consists of a resistance checker program. I've searched like a madman to help me through this and I have found nothing >. The program consists of 2 combo boxes, the first one is the nominal resistance drop down list of the numbers :100, 150, 220, 330, 470, 680, 820 and 1000. The second list is of the tolerance numbers; +/- 0.4%, +/-0.6% and +/-0.8%. Now what i want to do is select a number from the first combo box and select the tolerance level of the second combo box and i input the resistor of said value into the text box. when i click the check resistor button it should display a message saying if the resistor is in or out of tolerance. For now I have the form all laid out and the values inputted into both combo boxes and i can go to run the program i am able to select said values. Now my problem is trying to get the right code so that i can check the resistors value.
