Process Wordfile With Variables And Printing It With ASP.NET Application

Jun 14, 2012

I have a (in my eyes) complicated issue. I need to process a Word document and print it with an ASP.NET application. There will be certain variables in the document. We would like to indicate these between brackets, i.e. {name}.

Is it possible to fill up these variables before printing? In what direction should I look?

Passing Variables From Child Process To Parent Process

Feb 13, 2012

I have a procedure (parent process) that starts several processes (child processes). The child processes calculate several array variables. How can I pass those arrays to the parent process? At the moment, the child processes write the arrays to a streambuilder and the parent process reads the stream. Is there a better way to do it? Is it possible to have the child processes write to RAM memory and have the parent process read from there? It is like declaring a global variable in the parent process and give the child processes access to it.

VS 2008 : Accessing Variables Within A Sub - Updating Process List?

Sep 1, 2009

I have a Public Sub I am using to enumerate running processes and then display them in a ListView.I want to be able to update the list automatically each second. I've thought of doing this in two different ways, but the method that I want to use is checking if the process has exited or not.

When reading up on the Process Properties, I ran into .HasExited and .Refresh.I thought that I could use a timer and have it tick at 1 second intervals. I would then check, each second, if the Process has exited. If it has, remove it from the list. The problem with this, is that I don't want to put the sub in the timer because it would just constantly flicker the control. I need to figure out a way to access the variables inside of the Sub while inside of the Timer's .Tick event. The other issue is being able to add processes that aren't there. Which I can within another sub. I was thinking I could create a sub that grabbed the Processes by ID, compare them to the list, and them add them if they aren't there. If I did this, I could also remove Processes by ID that aren't in the list.

Using Process.Start Method To Launch Another Application From Application?

Feb 27, 2010

I'm using Process.Start method to launch another application from my application. Until today, there was no problem. But I have tested my application in a different OS, Windows XP (SP3), and my application didn't work right on that. I'm also using arguments to run that application. I guess for some reason my application couldn't send arguments to other application correctly under Windows XP. Maybe it is related to my code. But you should know, it works great on Windows 7.

Dot Matrix Printing Speed Is Very Slow In Application

Jul 5, 2010

I'm asking this question here, in this forum, as I couldn't find MSDN Managed forum for Crystal Reports. And the previously asked questions are unanswered. I've developed an application using VB.NET and Crystal Reports in VS2008. The report generated gets printed correctly on modern laser or inkjet printers. However, the entire formatting gets affected when I print these reports on dot matrix printer. Apart from that. the print speed is very slow. I tried exporting the report to PDF, XLS, DOC and other formats - but no solution. There was Export to Text function, which is not working in Crystal Reports now.

Application Crashes For Some (but Not All) Customers When Clicking A Listbox After Printing?

Feb 3, 2011

We have a rather large VB.NET accounting application that crashes occasionally for some customers. I have now been able to reproduce this particular almost 100% in my test nvironment using certain data. The crash happens when clicking a list box after printing a report. The form involved has a list box listing available reports. You select one or more reports from the list box and click the print button. After printing, if you click the list box again, the program crashes, with an exception that does not seem like one VB.NET should even be able to produce. The exception message is: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."The call stack is:

1. System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.CallWindowProc(IntPtr wndProc, IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wParam, IntPtr lParam)
2. System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.DefWndProc(Message& m) [IL offset: 0x3e]

Possible To Save Variables In Application?

Apr 19, 2010

I am trying to build a game (out of fun) similar to those text based games like Wars, iMobster (which can be found on Facebook/iPod). And I came to the point where I need to create a Save/Load system. My game currently has 50-ish variables, and it would be nice if there would be a way to save them in the application themselves, so when it is opened the next time they are all there. I know I can write the variables to a .txt file, and then pull them from there, but those are easy to modify, plus that means one file for each variable (right? Unless there is a way to save all my variables into 1 .txt file?).

C# - Application Variables Global To Webgarden?

Jan 12, 2010

I am currently trying to program an online drawing program using the HTML5 canvas.the thing is, I need to have the current canvas saved somewhere globally. Static variables work, but they do not get shared across a Webgarden. This results in two different drawings being created.I will have to somehow create a new application object which is shared. I figured I will need an external application holding them.

1) How do I replace the application object with my own?
So either I will have to make my own program and call to it with remoting or use the ASP.NET session state server for application variables. I favor the Session State Server though.

2) How do I use the session state server for my own variables? How do I access it?

I searched high and low on the internet and only found the ideas mentioned above, but no help executing them.

I mainly code in VB.NET, but I can also understand C# code for examples.

A little info on my application:The client side has two canvas objects on top of each other. The top canvas object us used for drawing stuff, the canvas object below it holds the drawing in the end. When something is drawn, it is sent to the server in it's base64 representation. (getDataUri). The server puts this graphic on top of a stored Bitmap object through a Graphics object.

How the changes are being distributed to the other clients, I am working on that right now. Either I transfer the complete picture or each and every change that is submitted. This should work through Server Push. If this does not work thoroughly I will have to save and timestamp changes. A link to the current implementation, which is not currently fetching changes (but they get transfered to the server... With the problem that some reach one instance some reach the other on either w3wp in the webgarden) from the server is here: http:[url].....

Printing On DotMatrix Printer (Ascii Printing) - Print Wont Come Right

Dec 6, 2010

I am using VB 2008 & Access Databases for creating WinForm Applications. Also i am using Crystal Reports for Report solution. my question is How do i created reports such a way that they can be printed in faster Ascii Format on any DotMatrix printer. The default true type fonts make printing very slower.

I tried to use "Draft 10 cpi" font which come to available me after i installed a correct driver for my Epson printer. which also helped me overcome this problem. however it wont be the scenario with all my clients i.e. they might have different printers having different Make with different drivers installed. i have tried to open such project on there PC but the printing wont come in Draft instead the fonts get expanded too much & the print wont come right.

Pass Variables From Php Script To Program Application?

Mar 14, 2012

I am developing an VB.NET application that reads data from the serial port and tcp socket, then I'm processing this data and store it in Database server. This application will be started all the time as long as the computer is started. On the server there is installed an apache server with some php scripts representing the "visual interface". From there the users can see the readed data from the VB app. The need is when an event appear in the apache server (such as button pressed), some data to be passed to the running VB app, and eventually trigger an event on it. I've considered some variants like start an timer that reads continuously some tables from the database that the php script writes onto, or read an xml ot text file, but I think that this may slower the communication and it is a source of exceptions or errors.

For example: An user opens a webpage, just to say test.php. On the page there is a button. The user pushes the button. The result of pushing the button has to trigger an event on the VB app and cause sending data trough the serial port or tcp socket. OR - The VB app has a timer that scans for pressing the button on the test.php.

Storing Application Variables In An External File?

Jul 8, 2009

I have been tasked to create an application, for which the requirements may change over time. This application will be a data entry Windows application,of which multiple copies will be running. All data will be written to text (.CSV) files for validation before being uploaded to a remote mainframe system (iSeries). My application needs to store certain variable information in an external text (or XML) file; for example, the file path to shared resources (which may change over time),as well as the specific data fields required by the mainframe system.

My questionsare these: what is considered the best practice for accomplishing such a task, and how would I accomplish it?I am completely new to XML, so I don't even know where to begin, although I am sure that XML is the path to follow for what I am trying to accomplish.

Use Of Variables Across Several Forms In Application - String Manipulation?

May 5, 2010

I am a beginner trying to write code. I am creating an application that is a questionaire with 3 forms that have questions for the user with text boxes, list boxes, and check boxes for response. Some of the text boxes with the user response are on different forms. Will that cause me problems? I would like to write code that will combine a literal string with responses from text boxes and string snippets which are inserted based on check box condition. I think I would like to create the string to be printed to a RichTextBox and then output to peripheral printer. How do I make inserting or not inserting a string based on check box condition? How can I trim the response string to allow a output string without annoying extra spaces and such?

Variables - Created An Application That Communicates Via System.net.socket

Nov 9, 2011

I Have a problem with vb.net. Basically I created an application that communicates via system.net.socket. on the server side of client connect, and a thread checks whether there are new incoming data. if there are data, puts them in a few tread declared variables, together with the "index" of the server. once this is done through "INVOKE" calls a routine that checks the incoming data andperforms an operation based on the data. I'll see what I do not work

Dim returndata As String = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString(data)

TextBox1.Text = ("DATA : " & returndata & "Socketindex =" & socketindex.ToString & " Index=" & index.ToString)

But that does not appear in the texbox, appears only "returndata", the rest c 'is same thing with the messagebox, individually, can display a messagebox with variable, but when I try to make a messagebox that displays them together, the texbox same thing!

And the same thing if I want to compare them with each other, for example

if index
= 0 then msgbox ("OK")

It does not work ...

For this reason, I would like to print it just like my web browser would have in order to keep the tabular data intact and the text formatting.

Schedule Printing And Check First If There Is Pending Job Before Printing?

Nov 2, 2009

I'm creating an application which has an scheduler to print and it checks if there is a pending job on the print queue before it prints the next file. I use a timer which checks if there is any file to be printed on my database. Example, the timer ticks and selected 10 files to be printed, it should print the 10 files 1 at a time, if there's no print queue, that's the only time the next file should print. I think another timer is required which will keeps on checking if print queue is done. How will i do this?

Repeat Process In VB Application?

Jan 5, 2011

I have access to the source code of a previously created app that work's as designed, but i am looking to update it for further enhance its ability. The change required may be simple in thought and also in design.Basically the app allows you to read in a data file a confirm the data file is in the correct format.Details fo the data file. All lines of the file are 120 characters long. If they are not then there will be an error returned. The fields within the lines have different properties and vaules and the validation on these fileds and lines work perfectly.

1. The first line of the file is always known as a descriptive ( header record ).

2. The next line will outline a detail record. The could be hundreds of these lines.

3. Finally there is a file total record.

A file could be four lines in total or 40000 lines in total. As mentioned the app works when there is one header and total record.I am looking to see if it can be modified. My intention is to merge multiple data files into a single file. There in lies the problem. There is a line in the code as per below.

Do While Not EOF(1)

As far as i can tell this means to go to the end of the file. When there are more than on set of data , there are errors messages generated because the code is looking only for one set of header and trailer records. As mentioned when there is one set of header total records , the apps will validate the file and return any error messages. What i think i need to do is insert another loop/s that say's read data between the header record and the trailer record , if there are any errors display it , then go to the next header / trailer records and display and errors , and continue to do so until you reach then EOF.
