Copy Opened Database - Application Gets It's Data From A Mdb-file And The Connection Remains Open As Long A Person Works?
The fact is I'm making an application, which users can install by using a Setup file...once installed the data in the database can be updated by a centralized server. To do this, they can insert a DVD/CD-ROM and export the necessary data towards it. I need to do it that way, because some of the users who really need this data will be using stand alone computers. The application gets it's data from a mdb-file and the connection remains open as long a person works with the application (maybe not the best way to do, but I know :-) )...when the user uses the application, he can perform an export...this exports the .ini-file and pictures (which works fine), but he also needs to export the mdb behind the application...I already tried connection.close() before and connection.open() after the System.IO.File.Copy...but that doesn't seems to work.

Closing A Database Connection Opened In Another Class?
I've got a fairly large VB.NET (3.5) project that makes a lot of database calls. So I created a namespace/class just to handle those fuctions. The idea was that this single point of entry into the database would give more control over validating input from users.

So my class looks something like this. (I've chopped some code out for readability, it works just fine except for all the open connections.

[Code]...

So I can close the data reader, but how do I reach back to that original database class and close the connection. If I close it in that original class it will bomb when I try to loop through the data reader the in calling class.I'm sure this is probably pretty obvious but I'm fried from the keyboard.

Make An Oledb Connection To An Access Database : Invalid Authorization Specification
I am trying to make an oledb†connection to an Access database.†

1. I added a component class. It said drag from the toolbox to add components.

2. I dragged over the Oledbconnection and OledbdataAdapter

3. I clicked on new connection string for the oldeb Connection†and try to connect to the SHX.mdb datababase in the debug/ bin folder I don't have a username or password for the database and do not want to set one up.( is this possible in .net?)

4.As soon as I try to test the connection, I get the "invalid authorization specification" message. I can't get past this and do not really understand why I am getting this message.I have vb 2005 standard edition, not express edition. The exact same thing happens when I try to set up the data adapter to the shx.mdb database.†

I am on XP2 and not logged in with a password or username. Could this be the issue or is there something else I am overlooking. Also, since I am coming from vb6 and ADO is there anyway to just write the code without having to use datasets, adapters and oledb connections to bound controls?

Connect To Access Db File From VS2020 (can't Find System.Data.OleDb)?
I have been programming vba for some time and am now starting VB.NET. I need to connect to an existing access db file (access 2003). I downloaded VS2010 and found an example on the net. Here is most of the code:

Imports†System.Data.OleDb
Public†Class†Form1†Inherits†System.Windows.Forms.Form
Dim†cn†As†OleDbConnection
Dim†cmd†As†OleDbCommand

get the argument for the desktop of the user

I am getting this error message:

1 End of Statement Expected

I have tried to add a reference to System.Data.OleDb but it doesn't appear in the add reference box. System.Data.OleDb is checked in the Imported namespaces window. I have tried changing the .NET Framework but, no help.

X86 App On Machine With Office X64 Installed Read Xls, Xlsx, Mdb And Accdb Files Using System.Data.OleDb?
Question: How do I programmatically determine which provider to use (Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 vs Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0) when my app runs as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?

I'm developing a VB.net WinForms app in VS 2010 and targeting both x86 and x64.The app processes data from xls, xlsx, mdb and accdb files using System.Data.OleDb:Dim oConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=...")

The x64 version of the program works as expected. The x86 version works as expected on a system with Office x86.When I run the x86 version on a machine with Office 2010 x64, I get the following exception when trying to open a connection:

The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.I believe this is because I'm running Office 2010 x64 so the x86 data access components are not installed.I can get it to work for Office 2003 files (*.mdb and *.xls) by changing the provider to Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0.

How do I figure out which provider to use when running as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?Ideally, I'd like a function:If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0") Then

Else If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0") Then
