[2008] Use The Tcplistener And Tcpclient Classes : Remove Whitespace?

Feb 2, 2009

I am trying to learn how to use the tcplistener and tcpclient classes. While I am attempting to compare something that is sent from the client to the server it seems that it adds a bunch of spaces, the reason I know that is if I write to the console what was sent it adds a bunch of spaces at the end. Is there anyway to get rid of it and just get the original text. I tried trim() but that didn't seem to work but I could have been using it improperly.

Tcplistener / Tcpclient Over LAN

Apr 22, 2012

I am creating an application that will be talking over the LAN (and eventually, WAN) which uses the Tcplistener and Tcpclient objects. Now, I have this working absolutely fine locally using the loopack address although when I change the IP of the listener to 0.0.0.0 (listening for all IPs) and the IP in the client application, to the IP of the server, it throws an exception when connecting. The client says something along the lines of the the server has rejected the incoming connection. So i disabled all firewalls temporarily but I still have the problem.I have ran netstat on the server which clearly shows that it is listening for an incoming connection on 0.0.0.0. [code]

Remove Only TRAILING Whitespace?

Nov 7, 2011

I'm having difficulty with some strings of varying 'meaningful' length from a different database (not under my control) that I am trying to trim in my vb.net code.

I only want to remove TRAILING whitespace... therefore, I can't really use .trim method.

The reasoning behind this being that the field sent from the french database usefully uses a <space> to represent a 0 (as you do).

The string is always the same length but the meaningful length can vary, an example being 95WO<space>5CA<space><space><space>...etc

Or it could be this...

<space><space>WO<space><space><space>... etc

Or this...

<space>5WO95CA<space><space><space>...etc

I've got my methods in place to split the string into pairs and perform various lookups but until I can remove the trailing whitespace I'm a bit stuck

.net - Difference Between New TcpClient(MachineName, Port) And New TcpClient(new IPEndpoint?

Mar 31, 2011

I have a .Net program that has to run on a cluster of server 2008. To find out the right IP I resolve the dns by GetHostEntry(VarDefinedInfConfig).AddressList(0)

but when I am converting my old code (this code picks the wrong IP) dns.GetHostName().AddressList(0) => this returns a virtual IP and not the right one.So I changed my TcpListener to (dns is parameter from config)Dim listener As TcpListener = New TcpListener(New IPEndPoint(Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(dns).AddressList(0), 8001))
listener.Start()

VS 2008 Closing A TcpListener Without Getting WSACancelBlockingCall Exception?

Aug 17, 2009

I have a background thread that sits waiting for new clients to connect to my TcpListener and when a new client connects it passes it off onto another worker thread and then loops straight back to waiting for another client. Like so:

[Code]...

Obviously I could just handle the exception and ignore it but I'm sure there must be a more proper way of doing it. One thing I am thinking of trying is using the BeginAcceptTcpClient and EndAcceptTcpClient methods but for one thing I'm not sure if that will actually help and for another thing the Begin and End versions of methods have always confused me in the past... I mean for a start how do you know when to call End?

I figured this must be a fairly common problem but searching the forum only turned up one result and it wasnt any use. I'll keep playing around and trawling google but just wondered if anyone had come across this before?

VS 2008 Make TCPListener Wait For Full Command?

Aug 14, 2009

OK I am probably going to completely fail but I thought I would just try making an SMTP server (which came from another thread on here I was posting in earlier). At the moment I am just concentrating on RECEIVING emails via SMTP, I dont care about sending them yet.So the first thing I want to do is just make my server program be able to receive a simple HELO command from Telnet on port 25. Simple enough eh? Apparently not The problem I have is that my program starts reading the data as soon as 1 character is typed into telnet, rather than it waiting for the telnet user to press Enter before it starts to process the command. I've had a look around and looked at Athiest's examples but cant figure out how to make it wait. Here is what I have so far:

vb.net
Private Sub StartBtn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles StartBtn.Click

VS 2008 Create A Client / Server Chatroom Using TCPClient In Visual Basic

Jan 6, 2010

However I have hit a massive brick wall with my program. My program that I'm trying (can't emphasis this word the importance of that word) to create a Client/Server chatroom using TCPClient in Visual Basic. So far I can get my client to speak to my server. However, i'm trying to get the returned data to display in a listbox which never happened, i then tried a label, which again never happened then a text box which I'm sure you can figure out how that went! I'm not great at networking programmers nor am I not bad I'm terrible but duty calls when it comes to projects.

The code I currently have was mostly taken from the net but when I have the program fully work and I understand how the software works I intend to heavily modify for it to suit the needs of what I need to achieve. where I can get my client to display the data from the server that I have already sent to the server (which displays successfully within the server).

VS 2008 (TcpClient) User/User Connection Circular Reference?

Aug 22, 2010

I have multiple TcpClient connections to my program. The connections exist as instances of a UserConnection class, that fires events on logon attempt and when receiving messages. My program also holds a Users object, which is a list of a User class objects, holding saved data (username, password etc) for each user that is allowed to log in.

It seems convenient to put a reference object of the respective user, in the UserConnection class (when successful login is verified). Hence, when an event is raised by the connection, the connection object will hold the user reference. As any event handler logic will need to know which user is responsible for the event.

If I don't make a user reference in the UserConnection class, then I need to loop through the users (less than 20) each time, to find the correct user. Not a big deal maybe, but i'm looking to understand how it would be done by an experienced programmer.

When data needs to be sent to a user, I need to access a UserConnection object. Hence the User class also holds a reference to the UserConnection class.

VS 2010 Structure Classes So That The User Interfaces Though A Single Class While The Supporting Classes Are Hidden From Their View?

Jun 13, 2012

How can I structure my classes so that the user interfaces though a single class while the supporting classes are hidden from their view? I think its best understood in an example:

Public Class MyInterface
Public Economic as EconomicClass
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New()

[code].....

So you might ask why am I even separating them? It's strictly for others who will be working with this interface. I need to funnel them though a logical structure:

interface.Economic.MyMethod
interface.Currency.MyMethod
etc

This way everything is already handled for them in the background and they only need to run the method they need. I don't know if I can have it both ways in VB.NET.

Show Whitespace In A Textbox / Richtextbox?

Jun 27, 2011

There is an option in Visual Studio (since as far back as I can remember) that allows you to see "Whitespace" in your code. This is often seen in file differential viewers as well.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how this can be accomplished in VB.net (or any other way) so that i could use a similar type of display option in my software.

I have not yet tried to do this but my only first thoughts would be to override the "paint" of the textbox to actually add the little tab "arrows" and space "dots" manually via GDI, or create a texbox control from scratch. Seems to me there could be an easier way to do this.
