I use the following code to add a record but get the error:"Missing semicolon ( at end of SQL statement. " I removed the semicolon, placed it before the SELECT but it seems to continuously cause problems.
Quote:
Public Sub AddAccountRecord(ByVal name As String, ByVal type As String, ByVal user As String, ByVal balance As String)
Dim strSQL As String
Dim objConnection As New OleDbConnection(strConnection)
Dim objCommand As New OleDbCommand(strSQL, objConnection)

Current S/W Access 2010 and Windows 7 (all up to date) also using VS2008 When I was using Access 2003 & 2007 the following VB.Net code line worked fine:
dbs.Execute("SELECT * INTO TrialBOYTbl FROM [Text;FMT=CSVDelimited;HDR=Yes;DATABASE=" & myPath & ";].[TrialBOYDtl#csv];")
But when I use Access 2010 the first data record is missing in every file that I upload - there are no other errors.The SCHEMA.INI file is:
[TrialBOYDtl.csv]
ColNameHeader = True
Format=CSVDelimited
MaxScanRows = 25
[code]...
NOTE: This code line is executed in VB.Net (Interop) in conjunction with Access Automation. Therefore, I believe that I must use DAO
as that is how MS Access is based.My guess is "[Text;FMT=CSVDelimited;HDR=Yes;DATABASE=" looks like an ADO (not DAO???) Extended Properties specification which worked fine until Access 2010.

I am receiving syntax error in my insert into statement when I try to use try and catch phrase. The highlighted one is the cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() . What seems to be the problem in my code? I'm using autonumber for the ID so I won't put it manually. I am able to insert records when I don't use auto numbering but I need it so don't have a choice. For my database, I only have 3 fields which are AdminID, Username, Password.

I am tryin to access a 2003 Microsoft Access Database using VB in an OleDb format. The database file name is Billings.mdb and there are 3 tables in the file the one I am trying to access is tbl Clients. When debugging the program I continue to get an Unhandled error point to the FROM part of the SELECT statement. It continues to occur regardless of my attempts to vary the input.
In the program my connection statement is as follows:
Dim connectionString As String = "Provider = Microsoft.Jet.OleDb.4.0; Data Source = C:Documents and SettingsTrialsBillings.mdb"
The Select statement is as follows:
Dim selectStatement As String = "SELECT ID, ..., PB " & "FROM tbl_Clients " & "WHERE ID = ?sngID"

This is not a homework of mine and i had never tried ms access database with vb so i just gave it a shot. so this is my first time and i am just trying not asking anyone to complete my homework. I have been searching for this a lot on internet but couldn't find a solution to this so i decided to ask this question here.
i have this sql code. what i want to do is that create a basic login form where users puts it's username in the UsernameTextbox and Password in the PasswordTextbox. If the the information match then a message box appears saying that the user is valid and if the information does not exist, a mesage box appears saying the users is not valid. now everytime i execute(run) the code, i come up with this error: Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression ''UserName' = 'Admin' 'PassWord' = 'testing123''.
The field names(UserName, PassWord) are also correct they are same as in the database. the information put in the username and password textbox are correct and they match the information on the database. But i dont know why this error comes up.
My code module is the following:
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Public Class LoginForm1
' Cancel button
Private Sub Cancel_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Cancel.Click
Me.Close()
End Sub

I am writing a INSERT Statement which will INSERT data into a Access 97 DB.Everytime i run the Statement from my VB.NET Code i always get Error in INSERT SyntaxI have narrowed it down to one DB Field - INSERT INTO TEMP (Size) VALUES ('" & varSize & "') - I have taken all the other variable out.
Is the fieldname "Size" a reserved name or anything in Access 97 and is there a way round this so my whole statement will work including the Size part?
I have some old VB6 code which was written by someone else who is doing the same insert but instead of INSERT they have created a VB6 RecSet and set all the values then used RecSet.Update to insert the row of data. Is there a VB.NET version of RecSet and Update.

im trying to implement a basic 'verified by visa' section on my form. Basically, the user must enter their visa password and click verify. On button click, a database statement verfies whether the card number and password match what is on the form with the details in the database. (this works fine). Basically, if you get the password wrong you get an incorrect password error (this is fine). basically though, if a user enters a new credit card number which is not in the database, obviously no password will exist, so how do i accomodate this into my code? Atm im just checking whether the fields match, obiously if those fields dont exist i dont want the user to get an 'incorrect password' because the data doesnt exist yet, so i want the user be able to 'create' a new password for that card number. [code]

I am converting old VB6 code to VB.NET with ADO.NET (OleDB). This is my query that will create a blank table when ran in VB.NET, but then works when ran directly in Access. This code presumably also works in VB6, as I am using the same SQL:
SELECT qryAsOf.name, qryAsOf.type, 0 as opt, 0 as swap
INTO qryCon
FROM qryAsOf
LEFT JOIN qryLinked on qryAsOf.c = qryLinked.lc
I feel like this has something to do with the left join and select into being together, but like I said it is only VB that has an issue with it, Access handles it perfectly.Without the INTO line, this query returns all 600+ rows.
This DOES NOT WORK:
cm.CommandText = "CREATE TABLE qryCon (etc...)"
cm.ExecuteNonQuery()
cm.CommandText = "INSERT INTO qryCon SELECT ..." '(rest of query above without INTO line)
cm.ExecuteNonQuery
This DOES WORK:
cm.CommandText = "CREATE PROC qryCon AS SELECT ..." '(same select as above without INTO, again)
cm.ExecuteNonQuery
The CREATE PROC that does work is fine, except I need to insert data into it later, so I get errors about how I need an updatable table. I really want the end qryCon to be a table, but I can't seem to get that to work :(
*However, when I do something like this (using the stored proc (renamed) above which, if viewed in Access, is full of data)
cm.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM storedProc"
dr = cm.ExecuteReader
[code]....
This DOES NOT WORK! By the way, I removed the concatenation in the query for readability. It is correct in the actual project.

If I run a SQL statement or execute a stored procedure from SQL Mgmt Studio, I will get two tabs: Results and Messages.I am lookig to return EXACTLY whats in the messages (the tab I'd see in SQL Mgmt Studio)window to a string variable. Is there a property in ADO.NET (maybe in the command object?)that contains the messages returned from a stored procedure? I am using VB 2008.

I'm trying to import data from a VB form into a database; 5 fields, 1 being an auto number, 2 getting information from two text boxes, and the final two being data and time stamps. I've inserted the code, it runs fine but when I press the button to insert, I get the following message;
System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException (0x80040E14): Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement. [Code] If anyone could point out where I'm going wrong, or if its my database connection that is incorrect, that would be a great help.
