Query - Access Db Returns Null After Changing Operating System Date?
May 8, 2012
I have a select statement which was returning the required values but when I changed the OS date from English(US) to English(UK), it now returns null. I believe the problem is concerned with date since in the query am selecting values where the date from the database is the same as the date in a combobox but I don't know what else I can do. It almost looks like the dates in the combox and in the database are not the same and yet the date in the combobox is actually retrieved from the database and has been returning values fine until I changed the system date format.Here's my select command:
cmd4.CommandText = _
"SELECT sum(brought_qtty), recieved_qtty from brought_coffee, centre_weigh where brought_date=#" & _
dtComb.Text.Trim & "#" & _[code].......

I have some code which gets child items for a menu via the GetChildren function which takes a list of menuData: Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))
For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu
If menuData.Children IsNot Nothing Then
menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
End If
Next
If I check if menudata.children isnot nothing, it always is nothing because the GetChildren function is yet to run (providing the child items, which do exist). If I remove this check and just have this code:
Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))
For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu
menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
Next
Then I am presented with a Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))

The Now() function in VB.NET returns date and time which is different from the system time that I see on the right-bottom on the notification bar. It is 15 hours slower than the system time. Has anyone ever met this problem? I'm using .NET 2.0.

I'm connecting to a MS Access DB using ADO.NET.
edit: i'm using VS 2010 I want to perform an SQL query based on certain criteria using the following string:
SQL = "Select * from tblTransactions " & _
" WHERE holding_PM_code='" & cbPMCode.Text & "'" & _
" AND transaction_status='Active'" & _
[Code]...
Should I pass a parameter in the query or shouldn't this suffice? edit2: i've checked the SQL and it does show the correct date format to search for (ie, dd/MM/yyyy)... but when I hover the mouse cursor over over 'dtiAsAtDate.Value' it comes up as '#mm/dd/yyyy#'.

I have a program (below) which runs an SQL query on an Access database to bring back records based on the date a user selects. This issue seems to be that US date formats are the only date formats that SQL queries accept. I may be wrong, but this is my understanding. All my dates in the database are in EU date format (dd/mm/yyyy). What happens when i run my code is that I can not access a record with the date of 08/05/2010 unless the input date is 05/08/2010.

i have to update the values in my database some of them are integer, some string and some date (as you can infer from the formatting)
i am using the following query:
UPDATE PatientProfile SET HospitalRegNo=" + hregno + ", PatientName='" + pname + "', PatientAge=" + page + ", PatientSex='" + psex + "', Address='" + add + "', ContactNo='" + cno + "', AdmitDate=#" + adat + "#, OperDate=#" + odat + "#, DischargeDate=#" + ddat + "# WHERE PatientNo=" + pno + ""
but its not working... i think there's a problem in formatting the date type variables

We have a Windows application, and we want to charge clients different prices base on their OS. There are 2 prices: 1 for client OS (XP, Vista, and 7), and 1 for Server OS (Server 2003 and Server 2008). My question is how can I retrieve the client's operating system from my vb code? By the way, I don't have to get the exact OS name, I just want to know whether it is a client OS or Server OS.

I did Build a program and copied only the EXE file to USB drive. Tried to run it on different computers. XP computers had no problem running it. The ME and Win98 could not run the program since the MSCOREE.DLL was missing. I need to install something on those computers to enable them but there are security issues and patches. Is there anyway to make my program standalone?

I've found article writing about how to make os in vc++. But may I know how to make it in Visual Basic? I know it is not easy to make an operating system. Maybe I just need some more understanding on os or how to make a program that does not need other operating system to host it. If there's videos of article about it, please also recommend it to me.
