Console Inside Forms Application

Sep 10, 2011

i'm working on a Java app wich uses the CMD.i want to control the app completely though a forms application and so i created a invisible CMD console that starts and runs, the only problem i keep getting. is that after startup and further commands send to the CMD window doesnt work. not commands are received.heres my code

the basic functions
vb.net
Private WithEvents MyProcess As Process

Private Delegate Sub AppendOutputTextDelegate(ByVal text As String)

Private Sub MyProcess_ErrorDataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Diagnostics.DataReceivedEventArgs) Handles MyProcess.ErrorDataReceived

AppendOutputText(vbCrLf & "Error: " & e.Data)

End Sub

Private Sub MyProcess_OutputDataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Diagnostics.DataReceivedEventArgs) Handles MyProcess.OutputDataReceived

AppendOutputText(vbCrLf & e.Data)

End Sub
Private Sub AppendOutputText(ByVal text As String)

If outputtextbox.InvokeRequired Then

Dim myDelegate As New AppendOutputTextDelegate(AddressOf AppendOutputText)

Me.Invoke(myDelegate, text)

Else

outputtextbox.AppendText(text)

End If

End Sub

the startup that works.

VB.net
MyProcess = New Process
With MyProcess.StartInfo[code].......

i sometimes replace the textboxx2.text with a custom command like "exit".so when i press the button after entering exit for example nothing happens.but when the app starts it does gets the first 2 commands. so why is it failing at the buttons.

Calling .dll Method From Inside A Timer Won't Work(Console Application)?

I have a .dll file (Interop.ACTMULTILib.dll) that I use to connect to a PLC. This .dll contains a sub called ReadDeviceBlock2(byval devicename as string, byval size as integer, byref data as short). When I call this method in my main it works fine, if I call it from another method that was called by main it works as well. However, it doesn't work when I call it from my Timer_Elapsed sub? I guess this has to do something with threads but I can't figure it out.

Console.Write From Windows Forms Application

Apr 4, 2007

I understand that I cannot use the System.Console to output information from a Windows Forms application because the standard input, output, and error streams are not run through the console in winforms apps. But I can't seem to find any documentation on where the standard input, output, and error streams are being directed to! Basically, I have a winforms app that accepts command line arguments and can be run in batch mode, however, I just want to direct some feedback to the user based on whatever method they're accessing the program. The app is used to redirect a client-server application from one server to another. In some instances, the user does it by hand (with a mouse), and other times they're doing it in batch mode (using SAS, command shell, VBScript, etc...). In those instances, I'd prefer NOT to use MessageBoxes because it will kill any processing they're doing.

Closing Application Via X Button Without Closing Forms Inside Mdiparent Causes Exception Error

May 3, 2010

Form1 is a mdi container. It has a bunch of forms that can load inside of it as mdi children. If I close each open form inside the form1, and then click the red X at the top right, application exits fine.If I click the red X without closing the forms inside I get: An unhandled exception of type 'System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException' occurred in mscorlib.dll

Additional information: Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015) However I can break from it. How do I get the application to not show that error? What must I do to fix those inside forms or close when the red x is clicked?

Console Application Without Showing Console

Aug 8, 2010

I am currently working on an application, where I am using a console application, that will set up the application prior to the main form is run. This is no problem I've got that all working perfectly, the only problem I have is that the console is showing while the application is running, I was wondering whether anyone knows any way in which I would be able to hide the console before it gets shown to the user.

Showing Console In Console Application?

Dec 15, 2011

How do I get the console from closing immediatley upon opening in a Console Application program? I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. This is the first time I've ever used a console window so I don't know where in the code I would need to put "whatever it is" I might need to put to keep the window open until closed by the user.

VS 2010 Console Application Without A Console?

Aug 23, 2009

It sounds confusing but it's not really. What I need is basically a way to emulate the console style text, without using a console. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).

Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?

Open And See Data Inside A .ISO Bin File From Inside An Application

Mar 30, 2010

im new to coding (started coding last month) so im a little stuck on how to do this, im making some emulation programs to learn coding with, and a part of it is to point the app to a .iso/.bin file and scan the data inside of the iso/bin to check if a file exists.[code]My issue is i cant find any class examples, or any information etc on how to code it so my application can see the data inside of the iso/bin instead of just see'ing the iso/bin file, so that i can then check the data inside the iso to see if the file exists etc.Im a novice still at coding so making a new class myself to look inside the iso/bin is to complex for me.

Detect If The Application Is A Console Or WinForms Application?

Sep 24, 2010

detect whether the current application is a console or a winforms application. The reason that I want to do this is that I am developing a library with a global error handler in it and I need to know what type of application it is in order to be able to subscribe to the appropriate exception event.Obviously I could get the user to pass in a parameter specifying what type of application it is, but I would rather deal with that automatically so its all encapsulated from the user of the class.

Windows Application Versus Console Application?

Nov 24, 2010

We currently have +- 20 different console application developed in VS2008 and running at different scheduled intervals, all controlled by Windows schedular. The problem we have come accross is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain these console apps. In some instances a console app will just fail or never run to start with and this creates a lot of problems. In many cases one console app is dependant on another and if 1st one fails well...you see where this is going.

I am looking for a new solution that will help us to trace, debug and manage these console apps better. We are preferably looking for a gui front end, maybe windows app where we can set the intervals for them to sun and view some error reports if they did not run.We are port all the code for the console apps to which ever new appliocation we develop.

Console.Write Not Working In Win Forms App?

Apr 14, 2010

I created a VB.NET Windows Forms Application in Visual Studio 2008. When I run my program from the command-line, I get no output (only the next prompt).

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Debug.Write("Foo")
Debug.Flush()

[code]....

EDIT: Can a program have a form and a console?

EDIT2: However, the output appears on the next command-line prompt. Can a Winforms application tell the command-line to wait until it's finished instead of immediately returning?

Forms :: Running Console App From WinForm?

Feb 8, 2011

I'm trying to run an app (GacUtil) which is normally run through a console window, directly in my winforms app, but I keep getting the error:
"The system cannot find the file specified"

Here is the
Dim AppName = "gacutil"
Dim BaseOptions = " /i"
Dim oStartInfo As New ProcessStartInfo
Dim sFull As String
Dim sStartPath As String = Path.GetDirectoryName(TextBox1.Text)
[Code] .....

In this case, the DLL is in C:, and 'GacUtil' has been added to the Environment path variable.
I can put a break point on the next to the last last line, copy and past the output of the 'sfull' variable into a command prompt and it will run perfectly. (I've tried adding oStartInfo.UseShellExecute=False, removing the whole workingDirectory property line and just changing sFull so that it has the Startpath also, but I still get the error)

However, when I try it in the Winforms app I'm creating, I get the error.
Process.Start(oStartInfo)

Forms :: Reading Console Output In A Window?

Apr 15, 2009

I've got an old dynamic link library that I'm using which was created primarily to be used in a console environment. As such it generally indicates what it's doing through Console.Write(). I've recently created a windows form which is using some of the functions from this library. I'd like to be able to grab the console output and place it in a textbox on my windows form so that the user can have some indication of the progress (right now it just says "Working").

Forms :: Command Line, Hide Console And Get Feedback?

Jan 17, 2010

I am working in VB. I have a fairly long and detailed explanation that I'll avoid posting but what I'm looking to find is quite simple. I'm looking for information how the command line executable LAME.EXE (the Mp3 encoder) returns information to the host program/form.

I am a VB novice and a novice to programming in general and am looking to learn more about as much as I can on the whole but basically I have a Windows form that gathers all the necessary information as a front-end:

The input .wav file path
The output .mp3 file destination

The encode settings (bitrate, frequency, etc)This information is pooled in to a string like this: lame.exe -v -b 112 input.wav output.mp3 or any variant on the settings selected in the GUI which is then in turn used to execute LAME.EXE with the set of parameters in a command line console...That's all well and good and it is quite functional but what I'm looking to do is to 'hide' the console in itself and have the encoder feed back its progress, say as a percentage inside the GUI.

The problem is that it doesn't appear that LAME in itself has this kind of functionality explicitly built in. I know it's possible however, as every single front end in the world has this functionality.I have tried a few ways of doing this with avoiding the issue of not being able to find the functionality within the codec. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place entirely or I'm not thinking correctly 'outside the box' as it were.

what I'm looking for is to use a command like this within the script itself: lame(v,b,112,"C:input.wav","c:output.mp3") or even pass the parameters obtained from the GUI a string formatted dynamically on the fly itself.I expect of course that this kind of functionality won't be available anywhere at all, what I'm really looking for as a workaround that reports the actions/progress/console output of the executable back in to the VB program somehow.
