Forms :: Process.Start Inside Application?
Jul 26, 2010Process.Start("<pathname>") works fine. But I need to open the file inside my application alone. Is that possible? If so How??

View 1 RepliesI have a situation where I'm using BackgroundWorker to run a long process in the background. However, whenever it runs I keep getting the following error:
"TargetInvocationException was unhandled"
The culprit seems to be this guy: Dim GrainProcess As New Process()
In my DoWork sub I'm calling a sub in another module. The above line is in the middle of that other sub. I'm using Process.Start to run a Matlab executable file (not written by me) that processes an image and spits out a number.
I tried putting the Dim statement outside the sub, but then it just gives me the same error a couple of lines down when I try to set the .StartInfo properties.
Does the "was unhandled" part of the above exception mean that I need to provide some kind of error checking (maybe a try...catch), or does it mean that I'm not allowed to do a Process.Start from within a BackgroundWorker thread?
I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

I have an application (application #1) running with Administrator privileges on Windows 7.
I want application # 1 to start another application (application #2) without Administrator privileges so application #2 is running as a standard user.
Is there a way to do this? I have been using Process.Start.
I'm working on a website where we'll be getting a lot of videos to be uploaded. To keep things simple and secure, I'm just writing VB.net windows app to suck all the files in a directory in, allow you to set some options, and start the encode by spawning a new FFMpeg process.

I am having a bit similar task, which I am not able to get thru. I'll explain..I have two apps A and B, B is kind of a reminder application which runs in the background..but that is not important here, thing is when App B is open, it has a button which takes user to App A, I am doing that using Process.Start("A.exe") all good so far. Problem is I need to make sure that if any other instance of App A is running then I need to jump to that instance. I am able to check for the instance running using Process.GetProcesses() but I am not able to set focus to that running instance.
View 1 RepliesI'm using Process.Start method to launch another application from my application. Until today, there was no problem. But I have tested my application in a different OS, Windows XP (SP3), and my application didn't work right on that. I'm also using arguments to run that application. I guess for some reason my application couldn't send arguments to other application correctly under Windows XP. Maybe it is related to my code. But you should know, it works great on Windows 7.

My first post! im quite new to programming but loving every minute of it.Basically i want to open another exe file from vb.net 2010. i can do it normally using
system.Diagnostics.Process.Start _ ("c:winamp.exe") if winamp for example is installed on another pc in another location i want to run it from my program but i want there to be sort of like a settings.txt file where you can edit the path to winamp and my program should first read the path set in the settings file and then open accordingly. how do i go about doing this?
btw it would be great if you could point me in the right direction for making a windows form where one can edit the settings file within my program without editing the settings file in notepad
I want to add a process to my application, the process should be started to listen some events when the application run. I searched in Internet, and I didn't find answers... Some people said that could use "Application.Run", but I didn't find this function in VB.NET project.
View 1 RepliesmyProcess = Process.Start("something.exe")nd want to start it using button it doen not find the file - i need to execute it from the same folder where application is how can i do that?

View 4 RepliesI am creating an application for learning purposes. I am using this: process.start("iexplore.exe"); That is working fine. However I would like to be able to tell when the page has been loaded all the way. I would like to know how to tell if the application is done processing or not, that is my main goal. If using the webbrowser control you can use the webbrowser documentcompleted event.
View 10 RepliesCan somebody form an idea on how to architect a web application which will kick start an independent process in the server which can perform data uploading function from flat file to Oracle table. This independent process should keep running until it finishes its job regardless of the web application's sign out or timeout issues. The client is a .aspx page which uploads the data file to server and then triggers the independent process in the server.I want to implement this in ASP.NET, VB.NET, VS 2003.
View 2 RepliesI'm writing an application that runs with the RequiereAdministrator flag enabled, but this application needs to launch some processes with the regular user privileges. Processes are "inheriting" the privileges from its creator, but they should have the regular user permission. I mean, they should revert back to the "asInvoker" flag, without it being overriden by the 'parent' process.
View 3 Repliesi'm working on a Java app wich uses the CMD.i want to control the app completely though a forms application and so i created a invisible CMD console that starts and runs, the only problem i keep getting. is that after startup and further commands send to the CMD window doesnt work. not commands are received.heres my code
the basic functions
vb.net
Private WithEvents MyProcess As Process
Private Delegate Sub AppendOutputTextDelegate(ByVal text As String)
Private Sub MyProcess_ErrorDataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Diagnostics.DataReceivedEventArgs) Handles MyProcess.ErrorDataReceived
AppendOutputText(vbCrLf & "Error: " & e.Data)
End Sub
Private Sub MyProcess_OutputDataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Diagnostics.DataReceivedEventArgs) Handles MyProcess.OutputDataReceived
AppendOutputText(vbCrLf & e.Data)
End Sub
Private Sub AppendOutputText(ByVal text As String)
If outputtextbox.InvokeRequired Then
Dim myDelegate As New AppendOutputTextDelegate(AddressOf AppendOutputText)
Me.Invoke(myDelegate, text)
Else
outputtextbox.AppendText(text)
End If
End Sub
the startup that works.
VB.net
MyProcess = New Process
With MyProcess.StartInfo[code].......
i sometimes replace the textboxx2.text with a custom command like "exit".so when i press the button after entering exit for example nothing happens.but when the app starts it does gets the first 2 commands. so why is it failing at the buttons.
I am using Process.Start in my application, which is working great. My only problem is, the program it "starts", is an installer, which takes about 5 minutes to install. I woud really like to hide all my forms and only show one that says "please wait", but i cant seem to get it to stay there till the process has finished.

I've commented out various things to limit it to specifically this command (example, I can swap mklink out with notepad and it works fine). The command runs fine from a DOS window, but can't be found when I use it this way. I also tried using the SHELL command just to test and I get the same results. No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.
I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

When adding the items the VB code is

Is there no simple way to reference a resource to add an icon to said menuItems?

My app starts an On-Screen Keyboard process like this:
Dim PID as System.Diagnostics.Process
:
PID = Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32osk.exe")
:
[CODE]...
It seems to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes the PID.Kill() fails because it says the process already exited. At this point the OSK is always still there on screen. Yes, I know my code should be testing to see if the process is still running before trying to kill it, but given that the OSK is still on screen..
I have a program that starts another program after setting the regkeys basically the program continually syncs the calandar of outlook and another application.I set the regkeys than launch the c:sync.exe app. I have tried a simple process.start and launching the process as a thread and they both do the same thing: The other process starts and works as it should but my main program goes "White screen" or "not responding" until the process.start has exited.
I want the process.start to run in the background so if users click in my main app it responds and truly that they can access the context menu of my main app from the taskbar while the process.start is running.
Trying to create a button that when clicked will check to see if a certain process image is running and if that process is running give the process focus. If the process is not running then start the application.

My intentions are to add command line switching. I am trying to see if i could run my application in varoius ways i.e.
App.exe -S - Start the application in XX Mode
app.exe -T30 - Start application with 30 second delay
and that kinda switching.
How would I go about starting a new process without it being the child of the calling process.
Example:
Main Program (Caller.exe)
process.start("file.exe")
i use System.Diagnostics.Process.Start to run a process
example :
Dim p As New System.Diagnostics.Process
p = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("D:ProjectApplication.exe")
it works perfectly during run time. but after i deploy to server.... this code did nothing, it did not call out this process
I am writing an application that in the end needs to execute another executable at some point, the problem is that the executable has dependencies in the directory it runs in that are required to operate. When I use the Process.Start to run the executable it errors out because it's looking for the dependencies in my applications directory.
I tried the startInfo.WorkingDirectory option but that didn't seem to do it either (not sure if I did it right) - here is how I used that:
Process.Start("my.exe").StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = "C:Test"For the life of me I cannot find how to set the "Start In" directory. I looked everywhere, so unless it's under a different name, I'm at a loss.
I am trying to create an app that will perform actions on specific times (much like the Windows Task Scheduler). I am currently using Process.Start() to lunch the file (or exe) required by the task. I am initiating a process by calling a file (an .mp3) and the process starts WMP (since it is the default application), so far so good. Now I wan't to kill that process. I know that it is normal behavior for the Process.Start(string, string) to return nothing (null in C#) in this case. So I am asking how can i close WMP when I called it through Process.Start(string, string)??

Form1 is a mdi container. It has a bunch of forms that can load inside of it as mdi children. If I close each open form inside the form1, and then click the red X at the top right, application exits fine.If I click the red X without closing the forms inside I get: An unhandled exception of type 'System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
Additional information: Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015) However I can break from it. How do I get the application to not show that error? What must I do to fix those inside forms or close when the red x is clicked?
im new to coding (started coding last month) so im a little stuck on how to do this, im making some emulation programs to learn coding with, and a part of it is to point the app to a .iso/.bin file and scan the data inside of the iso/bin to check if a file exists.[code]My issue is i cant find any class examples, or any information etc on how to code it so my application can see the data inside of the iso/bin instead of just see'ing the iso/bin file, so that i can then check the data inside the iso to see if the file exists etc.Im a novice still at coding so making a new class myself to look inside the iso/bin is to complex for me.
