View 4 RepliesI have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

I have an application (application #1) running with Administrator privileges on Windows 7.
I want application # 1 to start another application (application #2) without Administrator privileges so application #2 is running as a standard user.
Is there a way to do this? I have been using Process.Start.
I have been developing windows and web application using Visual Basic 2005 for a long time. Now i want to change from Visual Basic 2005 to Visual Basic 2008. I would like to know what ever projects i have done in visual basic 2005 will works in Visual Basic 2008. Will the existing code in visual basic 2005 supports Visual Basic 2008 or do i need lot of modification. I haven't used VB 2008 but i hear that most of the code which written in visual basic 2005 supports visual basic 2008. What are the things i need to take care when working the existing projects in visual basic 2008.

View 1 RepliesI'm developing an application with Visual Studio 2008 (with visual basic), first of all, I'll give a brief of what I'm planning this module will do.
It's an accounting application, that I use to administrate some of my company's movemets. The application links directly with MS SQL server 2005, and sends queries to the database like: client name, employee Id, transacion type etc. Right now I'm developing a contracts module, wich is intended to be used with Microsoft Word 2007. We want the module to do the following: (It's a contract document; the document should get the variables from the application like contract type [that would change the template of contract used in microsoft word depending on the type], Client name, Salesman name, today's date, name of the company's representative)
1) After the data has been captured from the application (the application has a capture module that sends the info to the database), instantly send the capturer to microsoft Word, to a layout that has variable fields that should fill themselves with the database information ( I don't have a clue on how to do that )
2) The capturer should be able to change text in the contract layout and fix the variables info in case they were misstyped, adn when he/she saves the document; if there were any variables edited, they should get updated in the database; and the application should be saved with a name that has variables on its name ( 1)today's date in DDMMYY format, 2)First 2 letters of the client's name, 3)last 3 digits from tye contract number), save the file in a directory where all contracts are in .docx format (could use any frmat, it actually doesn't matters), and send the file location to the databse; to a table field named "file" wich only has the file's route.
3)From my application, when consulting the data, give the app access to the file directly; simply by getting the query form the database.
I have one doubt. I told yesterday that i am new for windows application. I am using web application. In our web application, we can use multiple files and what files we want to run that we give page start up options. But in windows application where is it? I am using two files in single application. I want to change default start up page.
View 4 RepliesI am concerned that I may not be allowing applications to clear out of memory before they close.I normally start a new application with a start-up form and set the application's shutdown mode to "When last form closes".
I have noticed that any application that loads a class does not close when the last Form closes. I have tested this by creating a new project with a single Form and single Class (newly created and empty). When I declare this class in the Form's Load event then the application does not close when the form is unloaded.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim MyNewClass As New Class1
MyNewClass = Nothing
End Sub
In order to get the application to close I need to add Application.Exit in the Form's FormClosed event.
Private Sub Form1_FormClosed(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosedEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosed
Me.Dispose()

View 3 RepliesI've made a windows service for the purpose of creating backup's of certain files and directories automatically each day. The service is installed as automatic (so it starts after win startup) and i have an application which monitors the service through a system tray icon (so right-click on it you can start/stop/pause the service, change settings, etc).

Had this matter on Xp machine and visual studio 2010 ultimate after windows update between december and january: even the simplest windows form program crash on start when starting for debug (inside Ide, F5) unless putting breakpoints on each line of the autogenerated (and marked as "debugger step thorugh") code.(see: [URL]) I was wondering if this matter affects only Xp machines, or if someone with Seven or Vista had same matter.

When adding the items the VB code is

View 5 RepliesI am trying to run simple application (e.g. generated from template by VS.NET 2010) on IIS6. I changed it to run with .NET 4.0 (its application pool) and checked with regiis (this pool has 4.0). I also changed all possible httpHandlers (svc etc), to run with NET4.0. All possible rights are checked (i think so). Almost every request results in "Server Application Unavailable" (sometimes it is empty page with -2146232576 (0x80131700) value) and "...Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur." but EventViewer and IIS Log are empty.

View 1 RepliesI'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.
View 7 RepliesI hope someone can help with a very frustrating problem I'm trying to solve in one of our Windows Forms apps written in Visual Basic 2005 and running on Windows XP SP3.
The app is essentially quite simple in concept but there is lots of code and data, however, the problem does show itself consistently. The app does the following:
1) Startup
2) Choose Access database to load data from
3) Load the data into memory as a series of collections of objects
4) Do lots of number crunching
5) Fails when entering a particular sub for the first time with an Access Violation Exception
The most difficult aspect of this problem is it only shows itself when compiled in Release mode. It doesn't show itself when running in Debug mode either within Visual Studio or running outside Visual Studio. I assume this is due to the extra 'padding' in a debug exe which is masking the effect of bad code causing the error. The problem is made worse in that the 'standard' build target machine where the problem shows itself only has a copy of Visual Basic 2005 Express so as a result I have been debugging the app at runtime using WinDbg which is tricky but sort of fun (for a nerd!).
I have read / researched extensively on the internet for solutions and as a result have tried the following but all without success:
a) checked for any badly declared DLLs (p/invoke) but the app doesn't use a single one.
b) checked for any COM references / interop. There were two references which were rarely used so I removed them and commented out the code that referenced them but the exception was still raised.
c) I've tried adding my own trace code in the problem area and the line prior to calling the Sub runs but the first line of the Sub never executes due to the Access Violation exception being raised.
d) I have used WinDbg to set breakpoints around the problem area at runtime which has confirmed 'c' above that the sub never executes.
e) I have used WinDbg to double check the addresses of the parameters passed into the Sub are correct as they seem to correctly point to the same address as the local / module level variable that was passed in.
f) I have checked all of the extensive data loading is not eg leaving DataReader objects open etc.
g) I have tried compiling the code in VS 2008 on a different machine targeting the 2.0 framework but the bug still showed itself.
im new to coding (started coding last month) so im a little stuck on how to do this, im making some emulation programs to learn coding with, and a part of it is to point the app to a .iso/.bin file and scan the data inside of the iso/bin to check if a file exists.[code]My issue is i cant find any class examples, or any information etc on how to code it so my application can see the data inside of the iso/bin instead of just see'ing the iso/bin file, so that i can then check the data inside the iso to see if the file exists etc.Im a novice still at coding so making a new class myself to look inside the iso/bin is to complex for me.
