What ever program uses my parser needs to be able to connect functions to my parser for customization. I've implemented "Lua", a scripting language, in a vb.net application of mine. To connect functions to the Lua Parser it used reflections.I need to be able to (by only knowing the name of the function and its structure) call a function connected through the implementing application.

I am trying to run simple application (e.g. generated from template by VS.NET 2010) on IIS6. I changed it to run with .NET 4.0 (its application pool) and checked with regiis (this pool has 4.0). I also changed all possible httpHandlers (svc etc), to run with NET4.0. All possible rights are checked (i think so). Almost every request results in "Server Application Unavailable" (sometimes it is empty page with -2146232576 (0x80131700) value) and "...Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur." but EventViewer and IIS Log are empty.

View 10 RepliesHow can I call a function from inside another function and suspend the calling function until the called function is finished? I hope I can get some replies because I don't know how to ask the question and make sense:).
Anyway what I am trying to do in steps:
1. The user clicks button1 which triggers the click event.
2. From the click event I call a function
3. I then pop-up a form, that has instructions for the user to read.
4. After the user has read the form he will click the "Done" button and return to the calling function.
The problem is the the calling function continues to execute. I want to stop execution of the calling function until the users clicks the "Done" button on the instruction pop=up. I know I can use a msgbox but the instructions can be lengthly and does not look good in a msgbox.
I have tried the Call method with return in the "Done" button click but I can make that work. I also tried a goto statement but I can get that to work either. In the call statement I said call frmInstruction.show() and it got there but as I said the calling function continued to execute.

I have a function where I am performing a lot number of database operations inside a Sub. The operation when called directly like:ExecProcess()
takes about 11 seconds to run.However, if I create a Delegate, and call the sub using BeginInvoke(), the very same process takes over 40 seconds to execute.Here's the threaded code:

I'm having issues with e.HasMorePages.. I've written a function that will plot long texts onto the printer and should insert a new page everytime yPos > PrintHeight
e.g.

I can certainly add pages from the printpage, but my function will plot characters individually onto the printer and will increase ypos at the end of the printers width.

In order to do that, I will need to supress what is happening in the AddAttributesToRender method because the name of the function is hard-coded there. Here is what comes up in Reflector for the AddAttributesToRender function in RegularExpressionValidator:

View 2 RepliesI have recently written a few TCP Client/Server classes for an application. The main thing I am worried about is if the server class is built efficient enough; I don't have any previous experience with tcp networking so I need someone to give constructive criticism and feedback on the design. I'll explain the server design below.At the very bottom of my framework is a ServerClient class, which is pretty much a TCP client with some extra methods, properties, and events. Each ServerClient continiously read for packets, once one in received, they raise a packet received event... this will come in later on.
The actual server class is simple, it uses another thread to endlessly loop waiting for connections. When a connection is found, it converts the TCP Client into one of the above ServerClients then adds event handlers for the packet received and disconnected events. Finally, it stores the newly created ServerClient into a hashtable with all of the other people who are connected to the server.
When a packet is received by one of the ServerClients it is forwarded to the server(because the event handler was set when the connection was established) and then in turn forwarded onto the application with the sender's ID.Just a brief overview, I'm not attaching any code because I don't like doing that. If you want to see it then send me a PM. I'm just looking for constructive feedback on the design; will this system work, will it scale with a lot of users, and how do large servers handle so many clients at one time?

Now, at the form load i have iconized my program, but when i start new thread the tray icon is duplicated from it. I want to resolve that when start new thread it's not show new notifyicon.

I am trying to use that DLL in a console application. I have tried this code but I get an error: System.EntryPointNotFoundException was unhandled Message=Unable to find an entry point named 'ReturnHello' in DLL 'C:TestDLL.dll'.

I have a lot more code besides this, but I'm just trying to find out what commands I could use for just calling functions from DLL files.
There was something I was reading about assemblies, but all I get that to do is list the classes in my dll file. I will already know all the names and locations of the .dll files, and also the class and functions that they contain, because I will be building all of them. how I can get a simple function return in my console application.

View 5 RepliesI have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.

The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?
