how I can go about having a ini type file so my.settings don't get over written when I load newer versions of my application?

View 2 RepliesTo the board: Lately I've been getting Runtime error 3447 ("The Jet VBA file (VBAJET.dll for 16-bit versions, or VBAJET32 for 32-bit versions) failed to initialize when called. Try reinstalling the application that returned the error") when attempting to open a certain program (not one that I designed, just downloaded and installed). I installed this program in January 2009, but this error began happening only this past July. someone else to information about the files vbajet32.dll and expsrv.dll. One site said that the problem was probably caused by the file expsrv.dll being absent, but I checked my System32 folder, and it's there. As far as I can tell, it has always been there (the computer was made in 2008, and as I said the program had always worked before). Vbajet32.dll is also there. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but error 3447 still occurs. I also tried uninstalling the program and installing an older version, but 3447 is still there.
I tried replacing expsrv.dll, thinking it might have been corrupt, but that didn't help, and I cannot register that dll anyway. I can't figure this thing out. Both of the files are there, and I didn't change any settings or anything anywhere between last January and this July. By the way, I am on Vista.
I am having another issue with WMP in VB.NET 2010.I wrote an app using WMP in VB.NET 2010, using .NET Framework 4.0 of course, but had to change the framework target to 3.5. After doing this, the WMP component does not work. How, if I even can, fix this problem so that the program will run on .NET Framework 3.5? The error says that it could not load AxInterop.WMPLib.dll because it was built in a runtime newer than the currently loaded one.

I need a reliable way to check if a file is "newer" than one of the same name on a different drive. If it's newer, it will get copied. I have tried something like this:

If I drag one from my c: drive to my y: drive (a NAS box) the "date modified" as displayed in Windows XP changes by 1 second. The date and the hours and minutes stay exactly the same (they are files from 2009), so it's not that the file is picking up the current date/time. Very strange ...
If there an easy way to compare date/times and get the difference in seconds? I can then assume a difference of 1 (or even a few) second(s) means the files are the same.
I have been developing windows and web application using Visual Basic 2005 for a long time. Now i want to change from Visual Basic 2005 to Visual Basic 2008. I would like to know what ever projects i have done in visual basic 2005 will works in Visual Basic 2008. Will the existing code in visual basic 2005 supports Visual Basic 2008 or do i need lot of modification. I haven't used VB 2008 but i hear that most of the code which written in visual basic 2005 supports visual basic 2008. My Visual Studio 2008 seems to be corrupted. I can not use the Windows Forms designer. I get an error about: "Make sure the application for the file type (.vb) is installed." Also, under menu item Tools>Options, it says "an error occurred loading this property page" when I try to look at the options for 'Data UI Customization' under 'Windows Forms Designer'

This means that the pluginApp never will read the settings according the values of the file.

I'm working with VB Express 2008 and MS SQL Express 2008. I have an SQL database in my project which I manipulate in the project by adding to or subtracting from a particular table. The database's "Copy to Output Directory" property within the project is set to "Copy if Newer." Nevertheless, after I run the project, add to or otherwise manipulate the data, save changes to the database and then exit, the changes are not reflected in the table.

I changed it to run with .NET 4.0 (its application pool) and checked with regiis (this pool has 4.0). I also changed all possible httpHandlers (svc etc), to run with NET4.0. All possible rights are checked (i think so). Almost every request results in "Server Application Unavailable" (sometimes it is empty page with -2146232576 (0x80131700) value) and "...Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur." but EventViewer and IIS Log are empty.

I just haven't found a solution that works.
