"external Component" Exception - Even The Simplest Windows Form Program Crash On Start When Starting For Debug (inside Ide, F5)

Jan 12, 2011

Had this matter on Xp machine and visual studio 2010 ultimate after windows update between december and january: even the simplest windows form program crash on start when starting for debug (inside Ide, F5) unless putting breakpoints on each line of the autogenerated (and marked as "debugger step thorugh") code.(see: [URL]) I was wondering if this matter affects only Xp machines, or if someone with Seven or Vista had same matter.

VS 2010 External Component Has Thrown An Exception?

Sep 8, 2011

Weird problem, it only happens for one of my clients, and it happens on all 3 of their computers. Their computers are Windows XP.My form has a Windows Media Player control on it, to play a video from the internet. When the form loads, I get an exception "External component has thrown an exception". It happens in the form's designer, in the InitializeComponent procedure, at this line:CType(Me.wmpVideo, System.ComponentModel.ISupportInitialize).EndInit()

It works great on 100 other clients computers, running XP, Vista, or 7, and this is the first person to have this issue. If I take the Windows media player out of the form, it works fine.BTW, those computers have Windows Media Player installed, I already checked.

VS 2010 Debug A Program Crash At Run Time?

May 1, 2012

I am working on a project in Visual Basic .NET 2010 on Windows 7 SP1 that previously ran fine in Windows XP SP3 but has recently started crashing immediately upon running the executable. I have made several additions/changes since the last time it was tested on XP, so it is difficult to pinpoint what might be the problem. (I commented out all of the start form's _Load event, which causes the form to load with no events triggered in the IDE, but the program still crashes in XP, so I suspect it's something other than my code, though I don't know what else could have changed to trigger it.)

Running An External EXE Inside My Program

Oct 11, 2009

What I'm wanting to do is gonna sound pretty strange. I play a game called Wonderland Online. Usually while playing, I will have between 3-4 instances of the game going at the same time, each instance running a different character. Also, I will have open another program that I wrote that helps me figure out what I need to manufacture a certain item in the game. The running game is an 800x600 window, and I have all 5 of these windows open at once, where I am constantly moving things around, minimizing and maximizing.I want to create a app that would basically be a frame for the game. Creating the frame would not be hard, but this is the first time I have tried to get an external EXE to basically run inside of my program. Is this even possible? And if so, I would imagine I could run multiple EXEs and flip between them inside my frame. I could integrate my manufacturing program into the frame, as well as control which instance of the game is visible inside the frame.

Detecting When An External Program Ends To Start A New Event?

Apr 17, 2009

I need to be able to detect when an external program closes so that I can start another event within VB 2005. I have tried to do this by monitoring the processes on my computer. The problem is that this programs comes up as some weird sub-process. It has an Image Name, which is indented from the other Image Names, and it shows that the User Name is the Administrator. This is the only information you can get from the Processes tab. There is a Task Name under the Applications tab, however. I was wondering if there was some code to monitor the Applications tab instead of the Processes or if there is yet another way to do this.

.NET Application Crash With No Debug Info?

Nov 9, 2010

I have a backup program that is currently running in our Corporate Environment on about 70 machines. A mixture of Laptops, Desktops and Windows (xp-32, vista-32, vista-64, 7-32-7-64) with no problems.

There is one exception, and it's the reason I'm posting here for assistance. On one machine that is a Dell Latitude running Windows 7 64 bit with .Net 4 Framework installed the console application will crash immediately before it starts Sub Main. It simply give the generic windows error "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." with no option to see debug info.

Debug Crash Of Exe Startup At Remote Installation?

Aug 11, 2010

I'm struggling with a problem at remot installations. I released my Beta software which was always running fine on a lot of systems Win XP , Win2003, Win 7.Now I have a strange problem at some remote installation. After starting the program it will crash right away, not even geting throug the new or load Events. All my integrated debugging is useless. I don't know how I should debug such a problem.I guess there are some files missing at the remote systems. I have no idea which files. It could also be because of some third party components. I only have an event (see below) which is not of much help (to me).I found some other threads about the same CLR20r3 event but it was not very usefull. I need to get this application up and running. What steps should I take. I have some very good Beta testers.

Process.Start To Start An External Command Line Application

Aug 4, 2009

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

Write The Simplest Program That Will Play A Song For 1 Second?

Aug 21, 2011

I have no programming experience at all, although did learn basic at school 30 years ago how it's changed Anyway I am trying to write the simplest program that will play a song for 1 second. The reason is that me and my friends are Jam fans and we want a contest to see who can name the song with just a second of it playing (at any part in the song).

I have managed to to get the song to load and play but I only want it to play for 1 second before it stops.I can do the rest of the coding from there but I just can't get it to play for 1 second. I have a form with a button to start it off and this is all i have so far

Create A Component In The Same Windows Form Project?

Feb 2, 2010

I have an error that keeps regenerating when the form is closed and open back up.

1) Windows Form Application (Project: TestProject)

2) Add class in same project:

Public Class Test : Inherits System.Windows.Forms.TextBox

3) Drag and drop into the form within the project (works fine)

4) Close form

5) Re-open form... then error about the class Test in the project not defined

Actual Error: Type 'TestProject.Test' is not defined.

Is there a best way around this besides creating a separate project and putting the 'Test' class in that separate project and referring that separate project in the 'TestProject'?

Modified Added: By the way... i've used Global.TestProject.Test... but then again another error generate with the custom property within the 'Test' class.

Display Progress Similar To Debug.writeline On Windows Form?

Sep 28, 2011

I have a procedure that loops through the directories/subdirectories on a file server and sets the permissions. Procedure is called on a button click of a form.

I need to display on the form which directory is being processed. Similar to if we use the Debug.writeline which writes to the output in Visual Studio. I tried using a ListBox but it only displays the last one and only displays the last one once processing is done. I want to be able to display each directory name as it is being processed.

Psuedo code as follows:

For each dir in L drive

setPermissions(dir)
'display in ListBox dir name
lstProgress.Items.Add(dir.Name)

C# - Detect If Application Start Using A Manual Handling (Pressing An Icon) Or Start When Windows Start?

With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?
