Had this matter on Xp machine and visual studio 2010 ultimate after windows update between december and january: even the simplest windows form program crash on start when starting for debug (inside Ide, F5) unless putting breakpoints on each line of the autogenerated (and marked as "debugger step thorugh") code.(see: [URL]) I was wondering if this matter affects only Xp machines, or if someone with Seven or Vista had same matter.
View 2 RepliesI am creating a visual basic program, which acts as a very simple GUI for another program. I have built the whole Visual Basic project, but I am unable to do one part, the most important part you could say. I have a button (button1) on a form, when the button is clicked, I want it to run a program, named 'mover.exe' which is located in the SAME FOLDER that my visual basic program will run from. The directory of this folder will change. So, there are two problems I have:
1 - To make the program run the .exe program when button1 is clicked (it also must be run with administrative privileges).
2 - To make the program always look for 'mover.exe' in the folder in which it is started from.
i am trying to get some text form an external program. Currently i am using this code:

I am getting values for both the lngHWND, lngHWNDF and the lngChild. However, they are only values (numbers) and not the text itself.

I Have one Windows Application in which i have one MDI Form (Say App1). And I too have another Windows Application in which I have a Child Form (Say App2). So now i want to Call App2 from App1 .. View 1 RepliesI have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:

Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?
In my vb.net windows form application i want make a button that when a user cliked the button, the Desktop should be showed, (Show Desktop Button) .Consider a form name as form1 and it got a button like "Show desktop", when user clicked, all the application should be minimized and it should show desktop, is there any Code for VB.NET Windows Form application.

Ive been searching around Google and while I have found some answers, Im not sure how to implant them correctly.
I wish to disable the Close (X) button on a Windows Form. I read about ControlBox (I think that the property) but I perfer to do it another way.
I have a Visual Studio, Visual Basic form that includes an OK button and a Cancel button.
What I want to do is have the OK button save the options that the user chooses and of course the Cancel button discarding them and returning them to their previous values.
But what I'm noticing is that as I'm debugging the form, the values are being saved regardless of whichever button I'm choosing. On the form's properties, I have declared that indeed the CancelBtn is the CancelBtn and that the OK button is the OK button, but the values are still being saved regardless.
Is there a better way to do what I would like this form to do?

Here's the code so far for the two buttons, both are being set to close the window. AcceptOption should save the values and CancelOption should just close the form. I'm sorry if this isn't done well but the FAQ's that I found only mention changing the properties of each button and nothing about the code.:

So I need to make a windows form where it has a button to push and a label. There needs to be a list of 10 words/phrases. And when the button is pushed a random word/phrase is put into the text of the label. I have a section of code/psudo code but it keeps saying I am missing declarations when I try to run the program in debug...

The errors all seem to be declarations for the lines of the array (strHello(x) = "xxxxx xxxxx")... What declaration am I missing? and how do I make the list give a random response to change the label text?

I'm trying to display the square root symbol on a button in a windows form. I'm using the unicode U+221A which on windows character map is the root sign. When i enter this in visual basic ensure the font is the same as that in the character map (wasn't sure if that made a difference to the unicode) my button displays the eta sign instead. Any help greatly received.
