Running External EXE File When Button On Form Clicked
Aug 16, 2010
I am creating a visual basic program, which acts as a very simple GUI for another program. I have built the whole Visual Basic project, but I am unable to do one part, the most important part you could say. I have a button (button1) on a form, when the button is clicked, I want it to run a program, named 'mover.exe' which is located in the SAME FOLDER that my visual basic program will run from. The directory of this folder will change. So, there are two problems I have:
1 - To make the program run the .exe program when button1 is clicked (it also must be run with administrative privileges).
2 - To make the program always look for 'mover.exe' in the folder in which it is started from.
Some time ago I saw a code to host an exe from within a visual basic form, acting as its parent. How would I go about doing this in vb.net? I havent programmed in ages, but recently have gotten an interest again in order to complement
Well i have developed VB code in which i want to call an external application.I know this can be done using shell command i.e.
" shell("C:\abc.exe") ". But when i execute this statement the file actually runs. This is not what i am looking for, I am looking for a piece of code which ensures that the file can run successfully without executing it
I have already done the creation of button and the dragging of button at runtime already. But now i need to know how do i save the last dragged button on the form and also detect the name of the last clicked button.so lets say i now drag a button to coordinates 25,254. so when i exit the form and the next time i launch it, the button will still be at 25,254. and this one will go on for the number of button i created like 100. so when i launch the form the 100 button will be at the exact position where i last saved them.the second part is lets say i created button1 and button2 on the form in runtime. so when i clicked the first button, it should display button1. and if i clicked on button 2, it should say button2. same goes for like 100buttons.
My Problem is that I have a form that when a button is clicked loads a new form - code below. I want to fill a list view with data from a database in columns but that isn't the problem: Whenever I run the program and try to open the new form, the program runs up to the Rec = Connection.execute line before going back to the first form where I opened it up.
Public Class Form2 Public Const ConnectionString As String = "Data Source=PeopleBase.sdf" Dim connection As New ADODB.Connection Private Sub Form2_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load [Code] .....
I should also explain that the database is a local one and there are no errors or warnings that show up, it just runs like the while loop part isn't there.
okay on my main form i created an instance of another form
Dim secondform As New frmSecond and i called it with this
secondform.ShowDialog() okay now when the secondform pops up there is a "OK" button and "Cancel" button. how can i tell which button was clicked? If "OK" was clicked i want to perform a task, otherwise nothing happens..
I have created a form in VB and have coded a Clear Form button into it. The issue I am having now is coding the 'Submit Form' button to have it email the completed form to 2 employees in the bank that I work at. The form will be uploaded to our server for other bank officers to complete and then submit.
I'm making an equation program and I want to have a main menu where the user can select an equation and then when one of the buttons is clicked, it closes the "selection" form and opens the appropriate form. For now I just have it set to show the proper form (for example, Form3.Show) but when I try to do something like Me.Close() after it, everything closes instead of keeping Form3 open.
I also need to know how to make the same button create a folder to save a txt file in. I havnt yet figured out how to save changes made into my program, that way next time i open it, i can continue where i left off.
I am trying to update my form once the delete button is clicked. There are several fields like Name, Date, Date of Birth and so on. Once I delete a record I want the form to automatically load with new / updated data. This form fetches data from MS Access using OLEDB I have spent a long long time trying this but did not get any solution.
programmer and anything related with IT. i'm trying to create a program for my internet cafe wherein i would need 2 forms, 1 which will contain the transactions and 1 to log in/out customers. I was able to make this using excel but am currenty having a hard time now creating the program with VB2010, because syntax/formulas seemed different from that of excel2010... i have so many questions that i would like to ask, but i'l start with loading a form(for logging in/out) by clicking the Log-in button.
what i used before when i created a userform in excel is this: Private sub LogBut_Click() logForm.show
I have a program that I am working on and I would like to have it embed and run an AntiVirus program , but I am not sure if this can be accomplished with the use of a button.
form1 have four buttons, i want to set a label text in form2 according to which of the button on form1 is clicked.below is what i tried so far.on form1 each of the button click event i made it focus
Private Sub Answerbtn3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Answerbtn3.Click Me.Focus() Form2.Show()
and on form 2 load event i have
Private Sub FinalAnswer_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load If Main1.Answerbtn1.Focus Then Label2.Text = "You choosed option '
[code]....
the above code displays only the first condition ("You choosed option 'A'"") on the label when any of the button is clicked?
I am currently working on a program in VB that is 480,600 and am using a panel with a picturebox inside of it so that I can use scroll bars to view a chart in the picturebox since my form will be so small. Since viewing a large chart is pretty irritating using scroll bars to some, what properties can I enable or disable to get the panel and picturbox to expand also when the Form Maximize button is clicked rather than staying the same size up in the top corner?
I'm trying to create a save button on my infopath form that when clicked, it automatically saves the infopath form to a directory. I'm running into some issues, I thought it would be simple but is quickly becoming confusing. [code] I've tried searching all over but couldn't find an answer that pertained to xml documents such as an infopath form.
Is there any way to skip a the validating event of the active control when the close button of the form is clicked. It is very annoying when user wants to close the form, but due to the validate event of the active control, it asks for the valid input. The user is forced to give valid input to close the form. I have searched a lot for this on net but no any proper solution could be found.
I have a windows applications. Form 2 is child form of Form1 . Basically when button on form2 (child form) is clicked, it raise an events, which writes something in testbox on form1 (parent form). This is my code

Public Class Form1 Public mycount As Integer

I am here by to ask help on enhancing messageboxs. How is the way to Display a picture(like a JPG file) inside a messagebox along with text when a button is clicked?
I have just built a full main menu for my pc game and need to terminate the running program using a button held within the form. I have built a button labeled exit and tried a couple of closing codes such as: Me.Close ExitApplication

I am currently working in a very large solution (120+ projects). Very often, we need to find a particular form in a large desktop application, consisting of hundreds of forms. For example, we might have a requirement to edit some controls on a certain form.We don't know the form name, but we know how to navigate to the form when running the application.
In order to identify a form, we currently try to find some unique text on the form, and then search all the source files for this string. That's not very cool.Instead, I'd like to make a little tool that can identify the source file for a form, or at least the name property of the form object. We can't add code to the solution itself, so we will have to make an external exe.
Using VB 2008: I have two command buttons on a form called "cmdOK" and "cmdCancel" with respective captions of "&OK" and "&Cancel". The cmdOK command button is not linked to the form's AcceptButton property, while the cmdCancel button is linked to the CancelButton property.
The code below illustrates the contents Click event of the cmdOK command button which correctly handles cmdOK.Click
The form is opened with a ShowDialog() method.
Whenver the cmdOK button is clicked, the form closes, even if txtExpression = "" and the Exit Sub is consequently triggered.
