View 4 RepliesI've noticed that when you click on a web page in Windows Explorer, or open a file in general, and the default application to open it is internet explorer, ie opens and opens the file. However, when I tried this on my Web Browser it opened, but ignored the file and went on its usual routine. How can I get my Web Browser to open and open the file that was clicked on in explorer?

View 1 RepliesI'm making an equation program and I want to have a main menu where the user can select an equation and then when one of the buttons is clicked, it closes the "selection" form and opens the appropriate form. For now I just have it set to show the proper form (for example, Form3.Show) but when I try to do something like Me.Close() after it, everything closes instead of keeping Form3 open.
View 2 RepliesI already have this code from another question on this website.
Help.ShowHelp(ParentForm,
("C:UsersBeaudeanDesktopHelp.chm"),HelpNavigator.TableOfContents, Nothing)
That works fine except i need the location of the chm help file to point to "my.resources" where it exists because i need to install my program but in that code example it only works with strings?
i've made a little app that opens .txt files kind of a replacement for notepad now i have set the install package in visual studio to associate .txt with my app however when i double click on .txt files my app opens but blank. so i'm assuming i've gotta code something to get it to open the clicked on file but.... haven't got a clue where to look for inspiration or code i can "borrow" and chop to fit my needs. i assume it's got to be in the load section of the program.[code]

View 5 RepliesI am creating a visual basic program, which acts as a very simple GUI for another program. I have built the whole Visual Basic project, but I am unable to do one part, the most important part you could say. I have a button (button1) on a form, when the button is clicked, I want it to run a program, named 'mover.exe' which is located in the SAME FOLDER that my visual basic program will run from. The directory of this folder will change. So, there are two problems I have:
1 - To make the program run the .exe program when button1 is clicked (it also must be run with administrative privileges).
2 - To make the program always look for 'mover.exe' in the folder in which it is started from.
I have mdi application, on main form which is mdi container and has a tree view. i open the child form on afterselect even of treeview. the issue i'm facing that i open the form but focus remain on tree view until i click on the the form. my question is how i can give focus to form rather it stays on treeview. i tried frm.focus also activatemdichild(frm) no sucess.

View 2 RepliesI get mixed results in Google, so I'm wondering how can I simply launch a ReadMe.txt file in Notepad thats in the same directory as my application?
View 1 RepliesMy program has many forms that can be launched from the main form, and when launching a form, I need for my program to know whether or not there is already an existing instance of the requested form open before it launches the requested form.
So, if I have form "Search" with button "View" that launches form "Details", I need to know if the "Details" form is already open when the user clicks the "View" button.
Apparently, if I had developed my application as an MDI application intead of an SDI application, I could just do "If frmDetails.visible = True then DoStuff()", but the Details form's Visible property always comes back as False, even when the form is already open. If the form is always being reported as not being visible even when it is indeed visible, what method do I use instead to find out that the form is open/visible/in use?
I have 2 vb.net applications. First application is a mdiform and childform. Second application is a single form. I want to open second form as a child form in first application.

I'm using a ContextMenuStrip for multiple controls and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get the control that was actually clicked on to open the Context Menu. The sender just gives the ToolStripMenuItem reference, which has an Owner property that references the ContextMenuStrip, but I cannot figure out how to tell which control the click came from. There must be a simple way to check this, right? I'm checking it in the ToolStripMenuItem's click event.

View 19 RepliesIm making a "offline viewer" which uses saved webpages.I'm using a web browser and a tree-viewer. Currently when you click a link for a file/ installer (for example if you click on the "The Gimp" installer link) you have to right click, and then "save target as..." and then save it (so you would then two copys of the same file) AND then open it.Is there way i could have the file open when the link click? (Again, for example, the running of The Gimp installer apon clicked, or the opening of the video file when clicked)
View 8 RepliesI am trying to get my Visual Basic Web Browser to open links and buttons when clicked in a new window of my web browser by using the New Window event. I found this code to make links work in a new window of my browser, but buttons will not. When I click on a button, a new window of my form pop ups but the url says, "about:blank". Is it because the attribute is set to "href"?
Private Sub WebBrowser1_NewWindow2(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles WebBrowser1.NewWindow
Dim myElement As HtmlElement = WebBrowser1.Document.ActiveElement
Dim target As String = myElement.GetAttribute("href")
Dim newInstance As New Form1
newInstance.Show()
newInstance.WebBrowser1.Navigate(target)
e.Cancel = True
I have referenced this thread and the website it points to:pening a file in my application from File ExplorerAs of now, I can't get My.Application.CommandLineArgs to work properly. Any time I select an file to open in my program I get a windows error forcing the program to close. I only want to get the file path from My.Application.CommandLineArgs and pass it to a function that will then parse the file (a text file of various extensions, even if it is not associated with my program) and display the contents in a RichTextBox.My function to open the file is complete and works, but if I try to use My.Application.CommandLineArgs on a file the program crashes immediately.here is the code I'm trying as a test:
Private Sub ParseCommandLineArgs()
If My.Application.CommandLineArgs.Count > 0 Then
MessageBox.Show(My.Application.CommandLineArgs(0))

I have a program I made in vb.net express 2008 that used java.utils.zip to compress my work files to a Zip archive that I ran occassionaly to have a backup. I worked fine, but with net framework 4 and vb.net 2010 it doesn't work. So I modified it to use sharpziplib and it works fine if all files on the filter list in the folder are closed, but if I have a file open in OpenOffice writer, my program can't access it and won't create the zip file. The file that usually stays open all the time is my TODO list, that is updated several times a day , so usually gets printed, and updated( adding or deleting entries), without closing it.
