I have the code which checks if there is a selected tab
Private Function GetBrowser() As WebBrowser If TabControl1.SelectedTab IsNot Nothing Then For Each c As Control In TabControl1.SelectedTab.Controls If TypeOf (c) Is WebBrowser Then Return c
I created one web user control with property named "ReadonlyField" with boolean datatype. I am able to use in my web pages and now i wanted to add a description to that property so that i dont need to explain each time to my team member what is that property's intention.[code]...
I'm upgrading a project from VB6 to VB2008.I have a routine that clears a combo box, named 'cmbDataTable' which could be on any form. I pass the form and the combo box is cleared.
[code]...
I assumed it would be the same in VB2008 but I get the error.'cmbDataTable' is not a menber of 'System.Windows.Forms.Form'I am working my way through the project, first updating the global procedures - this is one - I haven't written the calls so cmbDataTable doesn't yet exist.
It is possible to create windows service using windows form control in vb.net. give me the url or links. The windows forms control such as, Timer control, list-box, notify-icon control etc.
I have several pictureboxes in my form with names as "stop0", "stop1", "stop2" ... upto a the number of checked items in my checklistbox. My aim is to use a for-next function so that the program should use for all these pictureboxes a specific image. here is the code I made so far:
Dim a As String = selectedbutton.Replace(" ", "_") & "_" Dim c As String = "" For n = 0 To chklstStops.CheckedItems.Count
I've been working for several days on a GUI where a lot of individual data elements need to be displayed side-by-side and wrap to the next line when they overflow; the goal is to not have to explicitly design an individual 'row' element with a set number of elements for this purpose. The FlowLayoutPanel seems great, except...
I need to be able to determine how many elements are on each line (dividing the width of the control by a predetermined value indicating width of child controls does not work); I need to be able to determine how many elements will be on each line (I may need to put 4 elements on line 1, then auto-wrap, then 8 elements on line 2, then auto-wrap, then as many elements as can fit on line 3 before autowrap, then 16 elements on line 4, etc); and finally I'd really like to put a 'line header' at the left margin and a 'line footer' at the right margin, where for example the line header contains a line number and the line footer contains the number of elements on that line.
I am trying to read values from textbox controls and combobox controls on a form. Reading the values from textbox controls is working fine but I cannot read from the 3 combo boxes. Here is some simplified code of what I am trying to do.
If you are interested, I am doing this because I do not like having to drag and drop my browser etc. I just right click the URL in Chrome and select (Play on My TV) a customized dropdown item, at which point my Player finds the TV, opens the URL, maximizes itself and plays the content
Any hunk of code that loops trough the windows form controls array, and based on top/left to bottom/right, resets the TabIndex property? I've mashed a huge form together and expect my user community to want to move things around, and I don't want to have to fool around with this over and over again.
I create special character by Windows XP Operating System Program Start/Run/eudcedit But, i can't reduce width of charater Ex: I create number 2 in string H2O but 2 is subscript then width of "2" is short, and i can't make "2" character shorter.
I have a single form application with two modules. The first module holds all the Sub procedures that provide the filtering functionality for 3 DataGridViews on the form. The second module holds the Predicate of T functions that actually filter the List(Of T) objects that are bound to the DataGridView controls.
I split them into modules since I was starting to have difficulty organising and finding the procedures and functions if I held them all in the form code.In some cases I can happily both Get and Set form control properties from within the modules. In one case I simply can't, I suspect I may yet find some more instances as I test further. The offending line is in one of the Predicate of T functions:
If tWord.Length <= Investigator.NumericUpDown.Value Then Investigator is the Class name of the form.
I suspect my problem might be that the Predicate of T functions (which are collated in a module) are called from the DoWork procedure of a BackgroundWorker that is a component of the form - hence the DoWork procedure is in the form code, but I'm not certain. The same code worked fine when everything was all in the form code. The error reported when adding a watch to the Value property in the module function is " 'Value' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level ". I have tried the following to no avail:
1) Setting the NumerciUpDown modifier to Public
2) Adding a Public ReadOnly Property to the form class that simply returns the Value propety of the NumericUpDown
3) Adding Imports Root Namespace.Investigator to the module
I am considering adding a Public Shared variable to hold the curent value of the NumericUpDown and referencing that from the Predicate of T function.I realise, and have read many times, that accessing form control properties from module functions is generally not seen as a smart thing to be doing, but since I am not trying to chnage anything, I simply want to know what the current value is I decided that I wasn't too worried.
I have a single form that I would like to move across the screen with my VB program. Of course it's simple to set the location X and Y property for compile time using the properties tab, but I want the form to move as the program runschanging the coordinates within a for-next loop.I can easily get the X and Y coordinates of the form within my program by using X = me.location where X has been dimmed as type point.console.writeline(X) will appear as {X=20, Y=40}. for example
I have an object (a third component gridview) which is serializable, and I need a deep clone of this object. I have the following code which throws the exception."The type System.Windows.Forms.Control in assembly System.Windows.Forms, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKey Token=b77a5c5 61934e089 is not serializable".So the gridview's base class is System.Windows.Forms.Control, which is not serializable. How can I get a deep clone from the gridview? [code]
I'm typing this up only to document it and possibly save others the three days of frustration and hell I had to go through. Because this unhanded exception was damned near untrappable (it happens on Form.Show(), but since my primary form was affected, I couldn't tell at the time), it's one I know I lost a lot of hair nailing down.
I have an office application. Standard fare utility program that grew to do lots of custom tricks for my place of business. Lots of database providers to pull data from various unconnected sources and crystal reports to make fancy reports from it all.
When I make a change or addition to it, it usually is only needed by one employee, so I only deploy the new version to one computer at a time. Recently, I had to reinstall the program to the whole company. Everything was going fine, until somebody who had a Windows XP machine tried to run it. It was giving a "clr20r3" "System.InvalidOperationException" on program boot. None of my Try-Catch blocks were catching it. Any Windows XP machine I installed it on was failing, and any Vista/Win7 machine had no issues at all.
I spent the next three days trying to catch what was causing it, pulling out references, reinstalling .NET. Searching for references to this error online was futile since System.InvalidOperationException is one of those ultra-generic errors that pop up for hundreds of oddball reasons.
Finally, by happenstance, I found the cause via a single, obscure post on TechArena by a poster with only that post to his name who decided to chime in with his two cents on someone else's System.InvalidOperationException problem.
About a month ago, I replaced the program icon with a new one. I made up a nice Icon, and compiled pre-sized versions of it into a proper .ICO file from 16x16 all the way up to 256x256. I replaced the program icon with it, the links to the shortcuts in the setup program, and the icon on the main form.
THAT was the bug. Because my .ICO file had sizes larger than 64x64, Windows XP couldn't handle it as a form icon! It works fine for the program icon and for the shortcuts, but the form icons MUST be 64x64 or smaller or the program will throw System.InvalidOperationException on Form.Show(). I didn't know this was the issue since this change was over a month old and I hadn't needed to upgrade a Windows XP machine in that time. Windows Vista and 7 can handle large icon files just fine!
Solution, I made a second, WinXP compliant icon just for the main form. Problem solved. My big icon is still used for my program and shortcuts, so they look great scaling to max size in Windows Vista/7 and XP no longer crashes with a cryptic error message.
I seemed to have have ruined my settings on VS 2010... I can't get the Shapes to work just after I had fixed the problem with the PowerPacks, and then it deleted all of my shapes I had on my form after I was tweaking the code and added another shape. And ever since, the shapes make errors and I can't change there colors. I've tried reinstalling VS 2010, and changing refferences doesn't work anymore. The title is the problem I have with trying to add a shape through the code in my project, here is the code for that:
Public Class Form1 Public Circle As New Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.OvalShape() Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
I have a basic Windows form with one Crystal Reports form veiwer control on it. When ran on the development machine it displays the report fine. After build and publish the application is now installed on a user PC. I am getting an error that the Crystal Decisions. Windows. Form version 12.0.2000.0 can not be found. All the Crystal dll's are in the install directory but none of them are being installed in the install machines GAC.Am I setting my publish output up wrong, may references wrong, or is the local GAC files the problem. The message is so criptic, it doesnt really point me in the right direction.
Im trying create a small payroll system using VB.Net windows form applications. The problem im currently facing is when im updating the datagridview. But my update doesnt work. IM using dataset and databinding source. I want to udpate the datagrid view and automatically update the database. [code]
one of the apps that I wrote a couple months ago is getting to be rolled out to my production floor; one issue tho - It works great as a standard executable (you double-click, it starts and waits for data), however, I cannot get it to start as a system service.
I've already done a little bit of research for how to create a system service, but most of the information that I've come across is point to VC# or Visual Studio 2010 - I'm not finding much for VB 2010. Additionally, I'm only using VB 2010 Express and I'm pretty sure that I don't have the Windows Service application template's on my PC.
My application does have a "UI", but there isn't any user interaction; it starts and just sits minimized in the system tray polling a directory for the existence of a file - i.e. the windows form is not required.
2012-03-16 19:15:09Z E System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at System.Timers.Timer.set_Enabled(Boolean value) at System.Timers.Timer.Stop()
Here's the code:
Timer declared as private member variable. Private _myTimer As System.Timers.Timer Initialize timer method.
[code]....
The timer has to have a value or else the Timer.Stop() call would be throwing the exception. This is a sporadic error and I'm just trying to see if anyone has experienced this before or if anyone has any ideas of what could be causing it. It is occuring in a WinForms application in the event handler for the Elapsed event of the Timer, but it is only occuring sporadically on the users computer. I haven't been able to reproduce the error myself.
