Win7 64 bit; fully patched VS2008 targeting FW2.0; VB.Net; running in Debug Mode (not tested in Release mode)I have a resonably complex app which I am refactoring a bit. As part of that, I relocated some code from a subroutine into a Click Event Handler. The Event Handler will, late in the handler, call the, reduced in function, subroutine. The point of this is thatNow when I click the button associated with the modified Handler I get:A first chance exception of type 'System.AccessViolationException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll<br />With Error System.AccessViolationException Attempted to read or write protected memory.This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

I've just started learning VB.NET with VS 9.0; a small application I'm working on keeps returning an "A first chance exception of type System InvalidOperationException occurred in System Windows Forms dll" error from the Immediate Window. The application has almost zero functionality so far, it consists of a menu strip with:
The only code I have written opens an Open File dialog, a Save As dialog, an About window with background sound and an OK button, and the Quit button which exits.
Since there is almost no code for me to search through, I can't understand why there would be an error. The program runs just fine when I'm debugging it too.

OK, in it's simpest terms, I have a custom object (all string Items) which I add to a list of those items. The list is declared as a global variable. One form updates the list, another contains a dataGridView (vs.net 3.5) that displays the list items. The view displays the correct data. For some reason, if I select a header in the dgv before it's populated, that's fine, but if I select it (click anywhere with the mouse) it bugs out with an Index = -1 error from the System.Windows.Forms. I want to use System.Windows.Forms.Keys with a variable for example
shortcutkey = "A"
keydata = System.Windows.Forms.Keys.shortcutkey
The idea was to implement custom shortcuts that the user specifies to perform certain actions.
My code is like this
If (((BindingFunctions.IsKeyDown(Keys.ControlKey) AndAlso BindingFunctions.IsKeyDown(Keys.ShiftKey)) AndAlso BindingFunctions.IsKeyDown(keyData)) AndAlso (keyData = Keys.L)) Then
I'm writing a windows service and initially tried just using a regular System.Windows.Forms.Timer, but never saw it's tick event get fired in my debugger. From doing some research, it appeared that I needed to use the S ystem.Timers.Timer control instead. In order to make debugging easy, I set my timer interval to a really short value 1000 ms. I'm seeing some rather strange behavior, though. It appears that my timer control is creating multiple threads within my application, or is this just a bug in my debugger? I have an event handler for the Elapsed event like so:
When I step through my code like this, it now appears to work as expected. Has anyone else run into this?

VB2005. In my application I am required to go to a website, collect info, and then display both the webpage and the info collected. For this I am using the System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser component and have it working faily well. The only thing now is that in order to get to external websites the company requires us to login to the firewall proxy server. For example when I visit [URL] a login box pops-up for our firewall server [URL] and I sign in with ID 9999 and password "pass". I am trying to programatically do this with the WebBrowser by using the credentails but have not found any relevant examples. Is this possible with the System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser component?View 2 Replies View Related
I've been working for several days on a GUI where a lot of individual data elements need to be displayed side-by-side and wrap to the next line when they overflow; the goal is to not have to explicitly design an individual 'row' element with a set number of elements for this purpose. The FlowLayoutPanel seems great, except...
I need to be able to determine how many elements are on each line (dividing the width of the control by a predetermined value indicating width of child controls does not work); I need to be able to determine how many elements will be on each line (I may need to put 4 elements on line 1, then auto-wrap, then 8 elements on line 2, then auto-wrap, then as many elements as can fit on line 3 before autowrap, then 16 elements on line 4, etc); and finally I'd really like to put a 'line header' at the left margin and a 'line footer' at the right margin, where for example the line header contains a line number and the line footer contains the number of elements on that line.
