I'm going to build a video player in vb.net, but during the development I've met some complications.
1) The windows media player ocx takes a long time to play the first video, I think for a problem of initialization
2) The window media player ocx doesn't play flv files
The alternative or possible solutions.
1) insert flv codec into the project for window media player ocx, but how?
2) use the flv component, but I don't know with precision what is the right code to use to play video files with the vlc component and sometimes during the dispose of the vlc instance, the system give me a blue screen.....
I know that there are two wrappers for the vlc componet the libvlcnet and the VideoLan DotNet for WinForm and WPF, but i don't find any example on how ti implement and use them in vb.net. Use the ffmpeg video conversion engine for window media player, but how can I implement ffmpeg in vb.net, is there any wrapper or activex for ffmpeg open source?

Exists a good tutorial or example that shows how to use these classes from namespace System.Drawing.Imaging.
My idea is, to produce Bitmaps and to compress them. I don't know if for my case IO Streaming is important because I don't want to save the bitmap on my hard disk.

I'm creating a kind of 'playlist manager' application where the user can create his own music playlist and then play it from my application. However, I don't want to give my application any playback features itself, as there are already so many media players around. Instead, I just want to open the files in the current playlist in the media player of the user's choice.
I have a list of MP3 files (their filenames), how do I now open these files simultaneously in, for example, Windows Media Player? I can get it to play one song, using this command (and Process.Start)
[Code]...
Surely this must be possible? You can open multiple files in windows itself simply by selecting them and opening them at the same time. I'm pretty sure the filenames of the selected files will then be in the arguments of wmplayer so that it can open them, but I just don't know in what format.

I am attempting to play a set of audio files continuously using a tree view. I am having troubles looping through an array to play one song after another in the selected parent node. It seems to work if I only use one song in the array but it doesn't want to actually loop through and keep playing; it goes through the loop but once the first song is over it stops. I am unsure if looping through an array in the AfterSelect sub routine is the best way of doing this,
Here is the entire Sub routine for the AfterSelect on the tree view.trvMain is the name of the entire tree view.wmpMain is the Windows Media Player COM.trvJazzHancock is the parent node for the two audio files I'm attempting to loop.

I'm writing an application in VB2008 that monitors 4 different live audio streams using the Windows Media Player 11 control. What I'd like it to do is if audio is coming in on one of the streams, it would mute all the others. I can't find a way to determine that audio is playing in any of the streams. If there was a way to access the equalizer (somehow that must be do-able since the visualizations have access) I think I'd be set. And I'll pay for a control if there's something else out there which can handle live streaming audio (the audio is available in WMP, Real, and WinAmp format).

Early on the OP was asked "how will you get the data about your music?" and it went into a whole other direction, but that's what I'm here to show: Another way to get the data about your music without dependence on the metadata. The music that I have has fairly extensive tags embedded but as I've discovered, that's not the case with all of them. It's a good starting point I suppose but is there another way? Let me jump to the end, then in the next several posts, we'll dissect the parts of it. My goal was use "only out of the components and methods" and this is what we end up with: Aside from the rudimentary things like song duration, how about if we could get a host of information about the songs, including the cover art? As shown in the example above, some also will have a link to additional information. The additional information may even contain a way to watch a music video for that song like this: Further, some will even contain what I call "Liner Notes" like this:
If this interests you, read on ...This isn't a new thought at all; I've explored this area before. Have a look at this on Code Project. Now before you go thinking that you've found the keys to the kingdom, I should explain a little minor issue about that - it doesn't work! In that, he relies heavily on three web services: Amazon Web Service MusicBrainz LyricWiki Amazon has significantly modified their service such that his methods don't work now. If you follow the posts following the thread, you'll see a few people have tried workarounds but over the years, even those stopped working because apparently they (Amazon) are in a state of flux regarding their API. LyricWiki is still alive and well, but - the music recording industry forced them to no longer offer their service to developers. MusicBrainz is in fact a heck of a resource and if you're at all interested in this topic, I would encourage you to have a look around. It's odd to work with, but it's chock full of good information and they're constantly adding to it or so it seems. All that said, this example won't use any of those but rather a different service all together: Last Dot FM. I can't say that I know much about them, but I happened onto them a few months back when I was first experimenting with all this stuff.

Ok I know this question has been asked to death but I still have not seen a good answer. I have created an application in VS2010 using VB.NET. In my application I have an error log that is an XML file located in the Public gstLocalErrorLogLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "ErrorLog"that gets written to in the event of an error so I can trouble shoot application easier. My application also downloads files from our FTP site and puts the files in Public gstLocalDownloadLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "download"So I have files that get read and written to as well and created and deleted all in the Application.StartupPath which is either "c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" or "c:Program Files (x86)(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" depending on 32bit or 64bit Windows 7.
After creating the setup I install it on my test machine that have both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Everything in the application works great till I have to write to, delete or creat a file in those directories above. I know it is an access issue and the UAC. This will get installed on numerous systems so the options I have seen to change file or folder permission on the computers manually is not an option. What has to happen is after I install the application it just works like when you install it on XP. Some post have suggested that you us a user with administrator privilages or group which is all fine and dandy but the user I have used to test the application has all of that.
So what I am asking is how do you create an application with VS2010 in VB.NET that after creating a setup package and installing on Windows 7 will just work with out "Access to the path c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File) is denied." If I have to install this on 100 Windows 7 computers it has to be a concreate no manually doing anything just install and work like when we installed on XP.

I'm using VS2010 Express. I have a VB.net project, where I need to find the metadata of individual files; Artist, Author, Comments, etc. (Specifically I need to find the video length in time of .wtv files). I have searched, but could only find VB6 examples and other code snippets that simply didn't work as they required some retired com or dll to do it. How do I do it in the latest VB.net? NOT VB6, C# or anything else. VB.Net in Visual Studio 2010 Express.

In windows explorer on Windows 7 (and Vista I believe), when you click on a file the bottom pane shows the files metadata. What I am particularly interested is the files Tag. If you click into the tag field, Windows will give you a list of tags. The list appears to be random and incomplete. So I have two questions. Is there a way to retrieve a list of a file tags on the system and is there a way to add to the list of tags in the Windows file pane?

I've been developing in .NET (VB, C++, C#) for a number of years, but I am finally creating my first service application (in VB). I need to read/write to a file contained within a user's documents. Currently I am building a Canon EDSDK Application using VB.NET that access a Canon 500D camera. It's a DLSR system. I've read that the EDSDK is only working on 32 bit system, thus my application only capable of running on a 32 bit system.
But, I just installed DLSR pro [URL], it can access my camera, regardless of the operating system : 32bit/64bit.
How do they able to do it?
Is there a new EDSKD that can access camera in 64 bit OS? I am using a 2.6 EDSDK.

I have embedded the WMP control in my Visual Studio 2010 app which works on windows 7 (Framework 4.0), but installing the app on winXP, I get the following error:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.WMPLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftFusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging. To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftFusion!EnableLog].
I guess this is a reference issue, but I have added references to WMP libraries (axinterop.wmplib.dll and interop.wmplib.dll). The WMP works on the XP machine, but not when called from my application.I have searched the web now for 5 days and changed references, and reinstalled the media player on the XP machine, but nothing works.
