Apr 18, 2012
I want to make a database of my media collection for my application. I want to create a library for that. Now what i want is that user should be able to add his own song to the database. How can i access mp3 files metadata in my database? How to update that database using my application.

I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.
I have this at the moment:
Sub Import()
Dim db As Database
Set db = CurrentDb

I barely know VB at all, but I managed to build an application with it, to import some text files into a database. So my problem that is left is that I need to install the application on the server and setup the scheduled task. I have the setup project built, but I can't figure out how to publish it so I can put it onto a CD. I am working in Visual Studio 2005.

I use the following code to import a XML file into an Access database:
dbname = "c:PC Auditer.accdb"
xmlFile = strFileName
Dim ds As New DataSet
Dim streamRead As New System.IO.FileStream(strFileName, System.IO.FileMode.Open)
ds.ReadXml(streamRead)
streamRead.Close()
[Code] .....
The import works fine, but when a next XML file is imported with less records, the database don't get updated and the 'old' records remain in the database.

I have a large text file that I want to use in my project, that data in the text file has about six items for each location. Now I had thought of importing the text file into a database using Access, but not had a lot of luck making it work. The question is is it better to load the data in the project as a text file then search for the string required or to convert it into a database. (The text file is a list of airports and related data.) Can a text file be converted to a Microsoft compact SQL database?

I have vb .net windows form application that I want to connect to Microsoft access database using "Microsoft DAO 3.6 object library". My problem is that when I go to Project tab -> Add reference -> COM tab, there should have been "Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library" on the list, but for some reason It's not on the list. Then I googled, and found out that the location of "DAO360.DLL" is "Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedDAO". After clicking on Browse tab, I browsed to that location, and I guess I added reference on another way.This is the code that I used before for connecting to Access, but for some reason It doesn't work this way on this PC.

im just starting to work with some database stuff, and ive got data binding done but im a little stuck with filtering. Ive got a test project, which has
-- listbox (bound to column 2/firstname)
-- Combo box (Has items added, with the same names as the items in colunm 3. so it has 'RPG' and 'Puzzle')
Now what im trying to do is when the item in the combobox is changed say to 'RPG' only items in the db which have 'RPG' in the surname column are displayed in the listbox. Been Google'ing and reading but all i can find is examples relating to a dataview and i cant get them to work/adapt to my situation.

Early on the OP was asked "how will you get the data about your music?" and it went into a whole other direction, but that's what I'm here to show: Another way to get the data about your music without dependence on the metadata.The music that I have has fairly extensive tags embedded but as I've discovered, that's not the case with all of them. It's a good starting point I suppose but is there another way? Let me jump to the end, then in the next several posts, we'll dissect the parts of it. My goal was use "only out of the components and methods" and this is what we end up with: Aside from the rudimentary things like song duration, how about if we could get a host of information about the songs, including the cover art? As shown in the example above, some also will have a link to additional information. The additional information may even contain a way to watch a music video for that song like this: Further, some will even contain what I call "Liner Notes" like this:
If this interests you, read on ...This isn't a new thought at all; I've explored this area before. Have a look at this on Code Project. Now before you go thinking that you've found the keys to the kingdom, I should explain a little minor issue about that - it doesn't work! In that, he relies heavily on three web services: Amazon Web Service MusicBrainz LyricWiki Amazon has significantly modified their service such that his methods don't work now. If you follow the posts following the thread, you'll see a few people have tried workarounds but over the years, even those stopped working because apparently they (Amazon) are in a state of flux regarding their API. LyricWiki is still alive and well, but - the music recording industry forced them to no longer offer their service to developers. MusicBrainz is in fact a heck of a resource and if you're at all interested in this topic, I would encourage you to have a look around. It's odd to work with, but it's chock full of good information and they're constantly adding to it or so it seems. All that said, this example won't use any of those but rather a different service all together: Last Dot FM. I can't say that I know much about them, but I happened onto them a few months back when I was first experimenting with all this stuff.

I'm developing a program utilizing an Access database and Visual basic. I'm having a problem saving the data I'm adding to the database. I'm entering the data into the database table with text boxes and making a new row and adding it the the table:Database2DataSet.Tables("").Rows.Add(newRow)
I have a grid view for the table, and the new row is added to the table, showing that I'm getting the new information into the table. However, I'm trying to save this new information to the database so its there after I close the program. I've tried using the following but none have worked so far.

I am taking Computing at A Level and need to create a solution for a business.I have thought of my solution which is a log of all the cars that go out on test drive for my dads motor company, i have created a database in Microsoft Access and have saved it as the usual mdb file. i have then imported this into the project and would like to use it.I have created a login form which i would like to use along side the database in the sense i would like it to check when a user enters their name and password for those two things in the database and respond accordingly. I also have created forms in which employees would enter information and then click the submit button, i need this to then place the information into a database as records under the right headings.I have tried using the program and play about a bit but i just can't understand it easily, even when i search for help i have trouble understanding what it all means.If someone could help me that would be great cheersLongy1259

I'm using VS2010 Express. I have a VB.net project, where I need to find the metadata of individual files; Artist, Author, Comments, etc. (Specifically I need to find the video length in time of .wtv files). I have searched, but could only find VB6 examples and other code snippets that simply didn't work as they required some retired com or dll to do it. How do I do it in the latest VB.net? NOT VB6, C# or anything else. VB.Net in Visual Studio 2010 Express.

I'm attempting to create and populate a table in a new Microsoft Access (Jet) database using VB.Net 2008 Express under Windows XP Pro SP3. The database and table are being created properly, but loading the table proceeds VERY slowly. When I am loading the table, no complicating factors that might impact performance, such as indexes or table relationships have been defined. The table to be loaded is made up of relatively short rows consisting of three single byte columns, and one (four byte) integer column. I am loading approximately 16 million rows, and this is literally taking hours, while the same data can be interactively imported into Microsoft Access from a .csv file in minutes. I am trying to batch load the rows, 64K rows at a time, in order to avoid the overhead of individually transacting/committing each row individually, but suspect that I must not be doing something right. Key code that I am using for this process is provided below.
