Importing Text Files Into Database

Sep 10, 2009

I barely know VB at all, but I managed to build an application with it, to import some text files into a database. So my problem that is left is that I need to install the application on the server and setup the scheduled task. I have the setup project built, but I can't figure out how to publish it so I can put it onto a CD. I am working in Visual Studio 2005.

Importing All Files In A Folder (all Excel Files) Into A Single Table In An Access Database

Aug 23, 2011

I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.

I have this at the moment:

Sub Import()
Dim db As Database
Set db = CurrentDb

Importing And Summing Excel (xls) Or Delimited Text Files?

Mar 18, 2011

how to best go about this project. I have just been given the task of creating a program that will primarily be used to import and sum a excel or text file that is tab delimited. As a quick example the file would be in the following format:[URL]The problem is that I would need to store this information locally (unless you know better) because I need to be able to append information to this from a second (or third, fourth, etc...) file and re-sum it, lets say that this is the second excel file that I needed to sum:

[URL]

I would have to append the week5 and week6 columns and add the Neapolitan row to my summation. This program will then format the sums into a list of the different flavors and the sums of all products sold during the total weeks and output to a text file.I have informed my employer that it would be easiest to do this with a VB script in excel, however, they are adamant that they want this done in VB.NET with a GUI.

VS 2005 Importing Delimited Text Files To Excel With .NET

Nov 11, 2009

I need to dump a bunch of delimited data to Excel. In VB6 days, I would save the data to a text file, then use ExcelApp.ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add (blah blah blah...) to import the data to Excel (I got this code from recording a macro while manually importing a text file). In VB.NET (2005), QueryTables does not appear to be an option for ActiveSheet.I could take the long path and manually parse thru the data writing to individual cells - however if I could just import it, it would be much faster.Part of the issue is not being able to record a macro in Excel in .NET format. So my primary question is, how do I import a delimited text file in to Excel without having to manually parse the data into individual cells.Secondary question is any tips for not being able to have ready made examples (in VB .NET format) by recording a macro.

GoTo SKIP_ROW

and it takes an age (well, nearly half an hour) to import these files.

VS 2008 - Importing Text File Into Database Using Access?

Apr 19, 2011

I have a large text file that I want to use in my project, that data in the text file has about six items for each location. Now I had thought of importing the text file into a database using Access, but not had a lot of luck making it work. The question is is it better to load the data in the project as a text file then search for the string required or to convert it into a database. (The text file is a list of airports and related data.) Can a text file be converted to a Microsoft compact SQL database?

CRD Files - Importing Directly Into Program?

Dec 17, 2010

We use a program, called CFPS (a flight planning program) and it creates different flights. I can export this file to a CRD-type. When I open it in Wordpad or something, it looks very familiar to a XML-file ("<item></item>...")...but I don't find a way to read it. What is the best way to handle this problem? It would be time saving if I can import these files directly in my program.

Importing CSV Files With Windows Forms?

May 2, 2011

I am building a small Windows Forms application. I need to 'read in' CSv files into the application.

I am using StreamReader to read the CSV files into the application. That is no problem. On my Form I have a text box, 3 Buttons and 2 data grids. With the first 'browse' Button I am using OpenFileDialog to select which CSV file I want to display in the first grid.

Then I want to use a 'convert' button to display the information from the CSV file in a much more 'user-friendly' manner in the second grid. Lastly I want to use my 'export' button to export the converted file to excel.

Login Using Text Files As A Database?

Jul 15, 2011

How it works is the user registers their details on one form which will append those details to the end of the 2 text files that are holding the data.At the moment this hasn't been implemented so we're just doing this manually.Anyway, after that the user can "login" inputting a user name and password into 2 text boxes and the program looks for those details in the text files that they just registered.I want the programme to read this by using "readline" in 2 text files and comparing what they've written in the text box with the corresponding text file and then checking whether those 2 words are on corresponding lines in the different text files, and so ensuring the user has put in the right username and password.

As I have average knowledge of vb.net and reading and writing to text files is new to me, I haven't really been able to debug it properly. But I had one idea to get the program to add an integer value at the beginning of each line and then get the program just to read the first character of each line and check if that was the same. But then I realised It ended up not having anything to do with the text boxes and I didn't know how to compare line by line anyway so It was pretty much pointless, but I'll include it in the code anyway.

Read Multiple Text Files In A Folder And Insert Them Into The Database?

Importing Csv File Into A Sql Database/table Using Express Edition?

Feb 4, 2010

I have a program that I need to import a csv file into sql database/tables.I am using Visual Basic 2008 express and sql server. When complete I have to distribute this to several users where they will have csv files in the same format but with unique data.It has been several years since I have done any programming and then it was vb6.I have quickly realized that my vb6 books are going to do me no good. I have spent an entire day watching tutorial and reading forums to no use.

The csv file is full of junk, where some of the records are 92 fields and some are 122. The fields have data that may have dozens of characters before and/or after the data that I need. On the good side I was able to pull the file into access and load it into two tables by using something along the lines of (where this = this, fill this table and the same for the second table.) So I have my 92 char records in one file and the 122 in another.Unfortunately though I can not use access to do this as many of the users do not have it. But by doing this I was able to work with the data in the file to get all of the fields set for name, length, type ect.So then I went into my vb project and created the database with two files.I set the fields up according to the information I got from the access tables. So I know that these two tables are a perfect fit for the data in this file.

What I need to be able to do is have the user browse through the program to find the csv file they will be using. If they have followed my directions, they should have placed it in the same folder as they program I will send them.I then need the program to take that file and import the data into my sql database/tables.I have come to the conclusion, given the condition of this file, that rather than try and clean it up before using it, it will make more sense to just get it loaded into the two tables. Then have my forms ect go and get the information that they need from the tables. Then after we are done using the records save them to a clean tables.
