We use a program, called CFPS (a flight planning program) and it creates different flights. I can export this file to a CRD-type. When I open it in Wordpad or something, it looks very familiar to a XML-file ("<item></item>...")...but I don't find a way to read it. What is the best way to handle this problem? It would be time saving if I can import these files directly in my program.

View 4 RepliesI am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.

i would like to know if it's possible to save text files into my app. that way there is no folder to contain those files. i'm thinking that i might need a separate form to hold such information, like creating a new textbox for each saved file and it's content, then loading the files from that form's textboxes.

I am having a hard time with my project. A description of it is here (Question #2) I don't know where to begin with classes. I have a functioning program, but it isn't working as designed. Changes and updates are being written directly to the text files, so the listbox doesn't display current information unless it is refreshed in some way. The instructions say that this program should commit files once a "Save accounts to File" button is clicked. Obviously, my program doesn't make use of the button. I was going through another project where changes were written to a list box, and committed to the files upon exit. However the text files were in LSV format, and the program used an array of structures instead of classes.

I am building a small Windows Forms application. I need to 'read in' CSv files into the application.
I am using StreamReader to read the CSV files into the application. That is no problem. On my Form I have a text box, 3 Buttons and 2 data grids. With the first 'browse' Button I am using OpenFileDialog to select which CSV file I want to display in the first grid.
Then I want to use a 'convert' button to display the information from the CSV file in a much more 'user-friendly' manner in the second grid. Lastly I want to use my 'export' button to export the converted file to excel.
I barely know VB at all, but I managed to build an application with it, to import some text files into a database. So my problem that is left is that I need to install the application on the server and setup the scheduled task. I have the setup project built, but I can't figure out how to publish it so I can put it onto a CD. I am working in Visual Studio 2005.

I am working on a vb.net Windows Forms application.I want the application to import Visual Studio Solution files from versions 2005 & 2008 (elsewhere on my Hard Disk).I am using Visual Studio 2010. I want the applicaton to find the files entitled - 'Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 11.00 # Visual Studio 2010.' Thyese are the files I need. I figure there would be one program on the sending end and a separate on the receiving end. A server and client perhaps?
Anyway, I need to know how to send a file on the host machine in a simple method that is least likely to be blocked by anti-viruses and such. The fewer issues that result in a failed transfer, the better.

how to best go about this project. I have just been given the task of creating a program that will primarily be used to import and sum a excel or text file that is tab delimited. As a quick example the file would be in the following format:[URL]The problem is that I would need to store this information locally (unless you know better) because I need to be able to append information to this from a second (or third, fourth, etc...) file and re-sum it, lets say that this is the second excel file that I needed to sum:

I need to dump a bunch of delimited data to Excel. In VB6 days, I would save the data to a text file, then use ExcelApp.ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add (blah blah blah...) to import the data to Excel (I got this code from recording a macro while manually importing a text file).In VB.NET (2005), QueryTables does not appear to be an option for ActiveSheet.I could take the long path and manually parse thru the data writing to individual cells - however if I could just import it, it would be much faster.Part of the issue is not being able to record a macro in Excel in .NET format.So my primary question is, how do I import a delimited text file in to Excel without having to manually parse the data into individual cells.Secondary question is any tips for not being able to have ready made examples (in VB .NET format) by recording a macro.

View 2 RepliesThe current applications uses .net printdocument to create print jobs which it sends to a standard printer. We use the blackice tif print driver to capture the output and manage it from there. The problem is that some print jobs take 30 seconds to come out of the queue, and blackice will not allow you to change settings on the driver (like output filename) until the job is complete. This means the application has to wait 30 seconds until it can print the next job. Is there a better way? Can I create/print tif images directly from .Net without a 3rd party print driver?

I tried to publish first in my local disk but after publishing Im having some errors "Critical error: Required processing file is missing" after clicking the setup.exe file. Now Im thinking of publishing this directly to my server. If I publish it directly to my server would it disrupt the running program? is it safe to do that? or is there something that I need to do it first?

I am making trying to make a program that can read the file information directly from a specified file, but I am having a lot of difficulty reading things like file comments.An example of this can be found in windows XP when you alternate / right click on any file and click on properties. You'll get a lot of extra information.Now I have a few questions about this.

I have VB project and I tried to use PUBLISH feature.It seems to create nicely some kind of setup program, but the setup program does not ask where to copy files (it does not seem to copy filesto target machine "PROGRAM FILES".)Is this setup program somehow different from usual installers?

I am trying to retrieve file details from files in the Program Files folder. I receive an error while trying to retrieve file details.

I receive file not found error at 3rd line. But if I change the path from "%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe" to "c:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exe" it works fine.
What should I do if I want to retrieve file details from the path which includes a "%" character?
Having a slight permission problem with Win 7 I am guessing it will be the same on Vista but work fine on XP (yet to try)But my program is sitting in: C:Program FilesCompanyProgram And its trying to create new files alongside itself in the Program Files area but bombing out which I know is permissions. If I go there to create the file myself it comes up with a UAC prompt and when I hit allow it works fine but obv the program can't do that byiteslf so bombs out.Is there anyway I can over come that without the user having to grant admin rights to the program each time it starts or do I have to write data to another place?
