Importing And Summing Excel (xls) Or Delimited Text Files?
Mar 18, 2011
how to best go about this project. I have just been given the task of creating a program that will primarily be used to import and sum a excel or text file that is tab delimited. As a quick example the file would be in the following format:[URL]The problem is that I would need to store this information locally (unless you know better) because I need to be able to append information to this from a second (or third, fourth, etc...) file and re-sum it, lets say that this is the second excel file that I needed to sum:
[URL]
I would have to append the week5 and week6 columns and add the Neapolitan row to my summation. This program will then format the sums into a list of the different flavors and the sums of all products sold during the total weeks and output to a text file.I have informed my employer that it would be easiest to do this with a VB script in excel, however, they are adamant that they want this done in VB.NET with a GUI.

I need to dump a bunch of delimited data to Excel. In VB6 days, I would save the data to a text file, then use ExcelApp.ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add (blah blah blah...) to import the data to Excel (I got this code from recording a macro while manually importing a text file).In VB.NET (2005), QueryTables does not appear to be an option for ActiveSheet.I could take the long path and manually parse thru the data writing to individual cells - however if I could just import it, it would be much faster.Part of the issue is not being able to record a macro in Excel in .NET format.So my primary question is, how do I import a delimited text file in to Excel without having to manually parse the data into individual cells.Secondary question is any tips for not being able to have ready made examples (in VB .NET format) by recording a macro.

I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.
I have this at the moment:
Sub Import()
Dim db As Database
Set db = CurrentDb

Is there a set function in vb.net that allows you to read a delimited file with text qualifiers? In the past I have used the split command but that does not allow you to take into account the text qualifiers.

My customer requires text files to be written in the following format:
"adrian","sigamoney","01","1","B"
No matter what I do I get in file
adrian,sigamoney,01,1,B
I have tried split, replace, adding extra hyphens to string.

I'm busy with an applicaton which reads space delimited log files ranging from 5mb to 1gb+ in size, then stores this information to a MySQL database for later use when printing reports based upon the information contained in the files. The methods I've tried / found work but are very slow.
or is there a better way to handle very large text files?
I've tried using textfieldparser as follows:
Using parser As New TextFieldParser("C:logfiles estfile.txt")
parser.TextFieldType = FieldType.Delimited
parser.CommentTokens = New String() {"#"}

I barely know VB at all, but I managed to build an application with it, to import some text files into a database. So my problem that is left is that I need to install the application on the server and setup the scheduled task. I have the setup project built, but I can't figure out how to publish it so I can put it onto a CD. I am working in Visual Studio 2005.

I've inherited a .NET app to support / enhance which reads in a couple of files of high hundreds of thousands of rows, and one of millions of row.The original developer left me code like :-
For Each ModelListRow As String In ModelListDataArray
If ModelListRow.Trim.Length = 0 Or ModelListRow.Contains(",") = False Then
GoTo SKIP_ROW
[code].....
and it takes an age (well, nearly half an hour) to import these files.

I am reading a textfile and extracting information from each line. For example string1 and string2. I am then writing these string to a datatable. However, sometimes there will be repeats in string1 and string2. If there are repeated lines I would like to be able to delete the repeating line and add a counter to find the total number of repeating lines. so if a string repeates 3 times I would like there to be a column with a 3 displayed next to the line in my datatable.

I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.
Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data.But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

There is way to input comma delimited files:
Using MyReader As New Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser(currentfile)
MyReader.TextFieldType = FileIO.FieldType.Delimited
MyReader.SetDelimiters(",")
Is there an equivalent way to output a comma delimited file. The approach I used in earlier versions of Visual Basic does not work in .NET.
I have been using:
Printline(1, val1, val2, val3)
In .NET that is not comma delimiting
For now I am hardcoding ... & ", " & ... between variables.

I have to import a tab delimited file into Excel and export it back out to correct a formatting issue caused by FoxPro. I need to pad a column with 10, Zeros and that is good with this here: objxl.columns("B:B").numberformat="0000000000". However I have 2 cells in the sheet, row 1B and 2B that I want to exclude from the number format above. Because it is a date field and it writes to that same column so it pads my date. I do have a need to Pad that date field with mmddyyyy so I have to pad it 8 - zeros.

I have ran into an issue where I need to save some Excel data to a semicolon delimited file. (Why is an issue unto itself) And I can not find a way to do this using VB. In excel I can use Import Semicolon delimited files but I can not find a way to save them. Is there a VB constant or method I can use to save semicolon delimited files without having to write my own save procedure to format the data? such as the xlCSV, xlDIF, xlTextMSDos formats. I would think that since it can import this format that it should be able to save it.

1)How do you export the data that is displayed in a datagrid to Excel.
2)How do you import data from an excel file, and fill the datagrid with that information.

I am trying to import data from a server and put it into an excel sheet. I have included (imported) the Microsfot.Office.Interop package into my program. I have been looking through the Object Browser to find the correct commands to add this imported data. Should the ListColumns.Add and Listrows.Add functions be used in this spot? I have started a code however, it was initially going to be used with human interaction. The new direction is to make it automated. The section of code I have written follows:
#Region " (Import Data) This function will import the PI Tag Names and desired Attributes into an Excel worksheet "
Private Sub Import()
[Code]...
After the nvs.Add("changer", 1) there are many more attributes that are going to be added to the excel file but I did not feel they needed to be shown here.

how would it go to be able to use in a VB application some statistical functions that are in Excel?
Basically I would just want to know the general lines of how something like that goes, what things need to be imported and so and whether this is a very complicated thing or rather it is just about importing stuffs. I have found something like this (which extends itself ) . I get tons of error red lines that never seem to end despite correcting using the options, new ones appear etc

I have been trying for several months (in my spare time) to write a vb.net (version 2010) program that connects to Excel (version 14) and imports numerical data.This data will be used later for engineering calculations.I have tried the Interop code which I have found on the internet with limited success and now I am trying the connection string method.I have found some examples of code, on the internet,that I have pieced together and can't get it to run.Below is that code.
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click[code].......
