Running An External EXE Inside My Program
Oct 11, 2009
What I'm wanting to do is gonna sound pretty strange. I play a game called Wonderland Online. Usually while playing, I will have between 3-4 instances of the game going at the same time, each instance running a different character. Also, I will have open another program that I wrote that helps me figure out what I need to manufacture a certain item in the game. The running game is an 800x600 window, and I have all 5 of these windows open at once, where I am constantly moving things around, minimizing and maximizing.I want to create a app that would basically be a frame for the game. Creating the frame would not be hard, but this is the first time I have tried to get an external EXE to basically run inside of my program. Is this even possible? And if so, I would imagine I could run multiple EXEs and flip between them inside my frame. I could integrate my manufacturing program into the frame, as well as control which instance of the game is visible inside the frame.

I am in process of writing a setup program that will reside in a USB stick. After inserting the Stick the VB2008E program starts (dont know how) and guides the technician to do certain tasks. As a part of this She/He needs to run a Setup.exe that resides in the same USB stick.
1- How do I define the drive letter of this USB stick.
2- How do I run the x:Setup.exe program without exiting the VB2008? The install process should begin after click of a button.
3- Would Autorun work on USB drives to run the program automaticaly?
4- How do I compile to make a single EXE file at the end?

I'm trying to run the "Shell" command in a VB.NET project, to execute an external file. For example: Shell("c: empmyfile.txt").
For some reason this throwing a "file not found" exception, yet the file is there. Now I've looked around and found that others recommend using the "System.Diagnostics.Process" method, which does work, however I don't want the file to run in-process, which is what that does.
I want to run the file out of process, so that when my program ends, the executed program keeps running independently. Hence my attempt to use Shell() but it refuses to work.
Is there another way besides Shell() to run a file out of process?

Had this matter on Xp machine and visual studio 2010 ultimate after windows update between december and january: even the simplest windows form program crash on start when starting for debug (inside Ide, F5) unless putting breakpoints on each line of the autogenerated (and marked as "debugger step thorugh") code.(see: [URL]) I was wondering if this matter affects only Xp machines, or if someone with Seven or Vista had same matter.

i am creating a visual basic program, which acts as a very simple GUI for another program. I have built the whole Visual Basic project, but i am unable to do one part, the most important part you could say.I have a button(button1) on a form, when the button is clicked, i want it to run a program, named 'mover.exe' which is located in the SAME FOLDER that my visual basic program will run from. The directory of this folder will change. So, there are two problems..i have:
1 - to make the program run the .exe program when button1 is clicked (it also must be run with administrative privelages).
2 - to make the program always look for 'mover.exe' in the folder in which it is started from.

We have an existing VB.net application. Upon an event, we need to open a browser window. I'm able to open the browser window like this:
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://s3web01/suggestions?item=" + strItem + "&co=" + strOrder)
Upon another event, we need to refresh the browser window with different parameters for strItem and strOrder.
If I call the same code above, it opens a new tab in the browser window. Is there any way to refresh the same browser window that was previously opened?

I know i can run webforms and mvc views in seperate files, but i want to run the web server control output and events in/on the mvc view page, however, i keep getting this compiler error:
Line 38: <CuteWebUI:Uploader ID="UploadPic" runat="server" UploadType="IFrame"
Line 39: FileTooLargeMsg="{0} cannot be uploaded! File size ({1}) is too large. The maximum file size allowed is set to: {2}."
Line 40: TempDirectory="~/UserData/Images/TemporaryImages" UploadingMsg="Uploading..."
[code]....
i don't know what else do do, it just wont recognize the control name when im writing the event signature, right after the "handles" keyword, comes the server control name and then a dot, and then the event name, but as events its just giving me "Me", "MyBase" and "MyClass" options to run events for... doesn't let me access "FileUpload.OnFileUploaded" which is the control name & event name i want to write the sub routine method declaration (and subsequently method) and signature for.

One of the features of my new Vb game is the ability to modularly add and remove in-game items. However, in order to add these items I figure their effects should be recorded in code in the text file they will be stored in.In short, I want to store code in a text file and then have it run on command
Furthermore, is there a way I could put all of the code on one line?

So I have my form, I add one combobox (combobox1) and a button that says "Launch..."Button 1's
Process.Start(ComboBox1.SelectedItem)
When you select a program from the combobox (combobox1) and click launch, it launches that program, for example, cmd.exe (command prompt) when I click the button, it launches the command prompt, but if I select a game (for example chess.exe, for vista), it says it can't find the file, this is because the search for the file is only: WindowsSystem32, how can I change that? OR, how can I add a reference that searches the WHOLE Disk, not just WindowsSystem32?

I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.
