Whats up all I've recently been working with the MDI options in vb.net but I have a question. Is there away to open external applications inside of the MDI application. What I mean is Taking command prompt for example and opening it withing my MDI app. It only shows the file in my app and not on the taskbar. Can I do it or no?

View 1 RepliesWe have an existing VB.net application. Upon an event, we need to open a browser window. I'm able to open the browser window like this:
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://s3web01/suggestions?item=" + strItem + "&co=" + strOrder)
Upon another event, we need to refresh the browser window with different parameters for strItem and strOrder.
If I call the same code above, it opens a new tab in the browser window. Is there any way to refresh the same browser window that was previously opened?
im new to coding (started coding last month) so im a little stuck on how to do this, im making some emulation programs to learn coding with, and a part of it is to point the app to a .iso/.bin file and scan the data inside of the iso/bin to check if a file exists.[code]My issue is i cant find any class examples, or any information etc on how to code it so my application can see the data inside of the iso/bin instead of just see'ing the iso/bin file, so that i can then check the data inside the iso to see if the file exists etc.Im a novice still at coding so making a new class myself to look inside the iso/bin is to complex for me.

View 2 RepliesI have made a form that exports to xml and refer's to a xsl sheet to open into html format. Now what I want to do is build this program with these xml and xsl files in it. I also want the user to push submit and the xml inside the build opens up.
I understand the Diagnostics.Process.Start but for some reason its not referring to my xsl file its just loading all the values in order. My question to yall is how do i set a path inside my application for the xsl and xml to refer to each other.
Is it a dll i need to compile if so any guidance their. Im a beginner and am still learning.
I'm developing an application with Visual Studio 2008 (with visual basic), first of all, I'll give a brief of what I'm planning this module will do.
It's an accounting application, that I use to administrate some of my company's movemets. The application links directly with MS SQL server 2005, and sends queries to the database like: client name, employee Id, transacion type etc. Right now I'm developing a contracts module, wich is intended to be used with Microsoft Word 2007. We want the module to do the following: (It's a contract document; the document should get the variables from the application like contract type [that would change the template of contract used in microsoft word depending on the type], Client name, Salesman name, today's date, name of the company's representative)
1) After the data has been captured from the application (the application has a capture module that sends the info to the database), instantly send the capturer to microsoft Word, to a layout that has variable fields that should fill themselves with the database information ( I don't have a clue on how to do that )
2) The capturer should be able to change text in the contract layout and fix the variables info in case they were misstyped, adn when he/she saves the document; if there were any variables edited, they should get updated in the database; and the application should be saved with a name that has variables on its name ( 1)today's date in DDMMYY format, 2)First 2 letters of the client's name, 3)last 3 digits from tye contract number), save the file in a directory where all contracts are in .docx format (could use any frmat, it actually doesn't matters), and send the file location to the databse; to a table field named "file" wich only has the file's route.
3)From my application, when consulting the data, give the app access to the file directly; simply by getting the query form the database.
removing the title bar of external applications.
I want the affected application no to have the title bar.. you know, with the app name, the mini, grow, and X button.
The reason I want to do this, is because my program docks external programs into a picturebox, but when I use this

I am using VS 2010 to create a Mac OSX like dock application.Everything has worked great apart from one of the key features of the dock! So what I want is:When the user clicks the minimize but on any (including external application) it minimize to the dock I have created rather than the windows Task-bar.

(I try to do this DLL as "all-in-one" DLL because this application is part of a bigger suite family, which means there are few others applications that requires the similar approach, and I want to avoid to re-write a dll for each application, and their respective versions.)
View 2 RepliesI am trying to extend some features of a external programm that is not able to use plugins or something. So I have to write my own app that reads the text from a textbox from this external application and trigger some own actions.
By using the FindWindow API in user32.dll I allready catched up the handle for the external application. But now I am kind of stuck. By using Spy++ from the Visual Studio Tools I got the information that the class name from the control I would like to read from is "WindowsForms10.EDIT.app.0.218f99c", but there are several of them. Additionally every time the external app starts it creates a new control id for the textbox I want to read.
I am developing an application which launch an external windows app, ei called APL.exe Also, this APL.exe launch two console utils, ie. named CON1.exe and CON2.exe I would like to know if is there any way, after APL.exe has died, of killing CON1.exe and CON2.exe, because there is a small possibility that they will not died completly after APL.exe has exited.Also there is another requirement. My final app version could be executed twice in the same machine, so there could be two instances of CON1.exe and CON2.exe, and because this I need a way to kill them not by process name, but knowing which of them has been launched by my current application instance.
View 5 RepliesWhat I'm wanting to do is gonna sound pretty strange. I play a game called Wonderland Online. Usually while playing, I will have between 3-4 instances of the game going at the same time, each instance running a different character. Also, I will have open another program that I wrote that helps me figure out what I need to manufacture a certain item in the game. The running game is an 800x600 window, and I have all 5 of these windows open at once, where I am constantly moving things around, minimizing and maximizing.I want to create a app that would basically be a frame for the game. Creating the frame would not be hard, but this is the first time I have tried to get an external EXE to basically run inside of my program. Is this even possible? And if so, I would imagine I could run multiple EXEs and flip between them inside my frame. I could integrate my manufacturing program into the frame, as well as control which instance of the game is visible inside the frame.

Does anyone know can server and client exchange information via tcp without server having to forward ports?I have something like chat client and server, but i need to forward ports in order to recieve messages from someone else or if that cant be done, is there a port that is open by default and not usually used by other applications?

View 1 RepliesI'm writing a program that allows users to view certain files using a DataGridView as the selection method I can do most of that just fine. Here's the part I'm having trouble with: I want to open the files using whatever program they have associated with the file extension. After researching it (on these forums), I determined that I should use the Process.Start() method. However, Windows throws an Win32Exception if there is no association to the filetype, and I want it to show the "Open With" dialog instead, and I can't figure out or find how to do that.

This works fine.What I need to know is why can't I use Me.MDIChildren(0)I thought that using SetParent would increase the number of children by 1, thus allowing me to reference it with the above code, but it shows there are no children in the array.I have been trying, without luck, for 2 days to try to maximize an external app being displayed in my app. I can get it to display, but I would love it if it could Dock to the same size as its container (a panel)
View 3 RepliesI have a windows form that have 5 webbrowser control. I also have serveral links of URLs and each webbrowser will open them. My problem is that after all links already opened, when I close my windows forms, sometimes my application suddenly open my default browser automatically and open url that on my URL list. I already tried to make all webbrowser to navigate to "about:blank"to make sure there are not loading any webpage before I close my application but the problem is still occur. This has given me a headache since this problem is not always occur when I close my application.

My question is as follows: The user has clicked File>Open in Notepad and also clicked on a file/folder. My Application in VB.NET needs to know the path and filename of the selected file/folder before the user selects the OK button of the Open Dialog box. How can I do this with VB.NET (VS2010).
