I am using VS 2010 to create a Mac OSX like dock application.Everything has worked great apart from one of the key features of the dock! So what I want is:When the user clicks the minimize but on any (including external application) it minimize to the dock I have created rather than the windows Task-bar.

I can minimize without problems an EXTERNAL application window from it Hwnd.The big problem is that once minimized the application cannot be manually managed: also if I close my program, both left click or right click on the external application taskbar button don't work: I can't maximize it and I can close it only by Ctrl+Alt+Del... why?

I want the affected application no to have the title bar.. you know, with the app name, the mini, grow, and X button.

I would like to know how to write a "Console application" in dll form for a patch installer so that I could call it from the installers and find out the installation of a program.I have created a VB.NET class project and checked the COM Interoperation or sort of on project's property, build section.Now the main thing is on receiving parameters and returning the value. (I try to do this DLL as "all-in-one" DLL because this application is part of a bigger suite family, which means there are few others applications that requires the similar approach, and I want to avoid to re-write a dll for each application, and their respective versions.)

What I mean is Taking command prompt for example and opening it withing my MDI app. It only shows the file in my app and not on the taskbar. Can I do it or no?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to extend some features of a external programm that is not able to use plugins or something. So I have to write my own app that reads the text from a textbox from this external application and trigger some own actions.
By using the FindWindow API in user32.dll I allready catched up the handle for the external application. But now I am kind of stuck. By using Spy++ from the Visual Studio Tools I got the information that the class name from the control I would like to read from is "WindowsForms10.EDIT.app.0.218f99c", but there are several of them. Additionally every time the external app starts it creates a new control id for the textbox I want to read.
I am developing an application which launch an external windows app, ei called APL.exe Also, this APL.exe launch two console utils, ie. named CON1.exe and CON2.exe I would like to know if is there any way, after APL.exe has died, of killing CON1.exe and CON2.exe, because there is a small possibility that they will not died completly after APL.exe has exited.Also there is another requirement. My final app version could be executed twice in the same machine, so there could be two instances of CON1.exe and CON2.exe, and because this I need a way to kill them not by process name, but knowing which of them has been launched by my current application instance.
View 5 RepliesI'm making a small version of Spy++ and i would like to recreate the function that finds windows by dragging your mouse over it. Now that is pretty easy but one little annoyance is some windows minimize or loose focus ect when you bring the mouse pointer over them.
I would like to know if you can stop a program from gaining focus or minimizing. And i know i can get the handles of open windows by the EnumWindows function?
While the application is running, I want the buttons, text boxes, datagrid, everything thats on the form to resize when the screen is maximized and again resize when its minimized.

I am having problems getting my form to stay open, if the user hits the "Show Desktop" button the form minimises. I need this to stay open at all times in the back ground.
I have disbled the minimise button to stop the users using it.
how I can stop this from happening or if I use a timer to check the windows state it apears normal as it looks like the "Show Desktop" button does not actually minimise the window!
Here are my questions concerning VB 2010 Express:
1. I've registered my VB 2010 Express, will it still expire?
2. Will the applications I made using VB 2010 Express expire after some time?
3. Is it OK to write my code in the designer.vb file? I don't know why, but when I started writing my application it took me to the designer.vb instead of form1.vb code.
4. I've been working on an application for a week now, but suddenly I can no longer access my Design View(Shift-F7). All my codes are written on the [form name].Designer.vb. I can still view my codes but I cant access my form layout. On the solution explorer, my forms no longer have the 'form icon'. When i press Shift-F7 nothing happens. Right-clicking the form on the solution explorer doesn't show 'View Designer' option. How can I fix this?
I have searched now for hours trying to find a solution to this. I am trying to allow a user to minimize a form instead of closing it. I have tried about 5 different things so far in the form_closing event to minimize but have had no success. On another not, is there a way to allow the icon to be displayed? I know I could easily do this by using a different form layout but I prefer the compactness of the FixedToolWindow.

I have a MDI parent that opens another form like this:

That form has a button that, when clicked, does this:
CreateObject("Shell.Application").ToggleDesktop()
The button operates as expected (showing the desktop) most of the time but occasionally does not minimize the MDI parent. All the other windows, including the form above get minimized every time.
I have a program that has a main window, and a progression of other windows that all open from each other. I only want the main window to show in the taskbar, and I want to be able to minimize at any window, and have every window minimize to a single item in the taskbarThe problem is: when I set each form's 'SHOWINTASKBAR' to True, every form shows in the taskbar instead of just one. If I set the 'SHOWINTASKBAR' property to False, they don't minimize to the taskbar.

View 8 RepliesI have a windows application created using 2005. One of the screens keeps minimizing each time it's loading and I don't know why. when I look at the properties for the form, the window state is set to normal.
I did have the below line of code being used when the user clicked a button on this form because i wanted to minimize the form at that time; however, I've sinced remmed it out because of what's happening now.
I have one small problem on my app, here's the deal, when I run my app that have a button for "load playlist" and when I click on file>options my app is looking for settings.xml (created before by the same app) on the same folder from where I loaded my playlist. Load playlist button is on my Form1 and Form4, and settings is on my Form6, and this happend every time I load anything, open anything, so my app remembers last opened folder. Is there any way that I can return my path to apps path? I need to mention that this applies only to Windows XP, idk why, because on my win7 it works just fine.

View 4 RepliesPart of my application deals with creating a number of pivot tables. I pull data from a local database, and store it in a datatable. From here, the data is processed and eventually a pivot table is returned. On small data sets it works well, but on some larger one there is a few seconds of "nothing" until the table is shown.
After a few iterations of trying things to display some form of progress I have ended up with a form with nothing but a progress bar running on it. I spawn a new thread, and run it. It works exactly like I hoped. However, when I call the thread.abort() method to terminate the thread, occasionally, the main form will minimize. I tired having me.show() aftre the .abort() to bring the form into view again, but it appears not to have helped.
Now I understand that it is better practice to have worker background threads, and the main thread for UI, but is there a simple way of ensuring that the main form does not close?

I know how to minmize to systemtray using a button and by the use of a notifyIcon, but i want to minmize to system tray using the minimize button on the title bar of the form. I think it as something to do with the resize event but i dont know what.

Since hard coding the path of such exe would be hideously wrong in so many aspects i would like to include a little configuration option for the user, so he can specify the path of the external exe for the application to be used.I also would like to have something like that for the path of the Database I'm actually using.
