So I'm creating an application that will notify a person of something when I send a command. I've been thinking of just using a TCP connection to do it but there must be an easier way.
View 1 RepliesI may be the only person still automating excel this way and I am looking at doing it in ways that better handle COM objects and such, but for now I just importMicrosoft.Office.Interop.Excel and go for it. Something that gave me a lot of grief at first was hanging excel.exe processes, but there are tons of resources online for fixing that. At this point I am pretty confident in my abilities to handle it.One thing I did notice and was wondering about is how does closing a windows forms application interact with excel.exe running in the background and likely more specifically the garbage collector. I have written quite a few excel automation projects and noticed that after I run my program .exe and it has completed there is an excel.exe process that hangs on until I close the pop up window from the windows forms application. Why is that happening?

But now I have finished other of my programs and I want to know can I somehow add it straight to wep site? I have now used suntuubi.com as own wep site, it's not the best but its free :) And I have usually posted a link to download setup from mediafire (or some other) but can I run that program from my page without any downloads? I made that program with windows forms application, do I need to use wbf broswer application? ( if so, can I somehow fastly switch it without making everything again?) View 1 RepliesI've just finished an application which does everything I want within the Visual Studio environment now I need a way to store the data the user creates but I've never had to do it before and am a bit lost. I've spent days trying to use XML to do this but to no avail mainly cos my classes use ArrayLists as properties and it gets a bit beyond me. I've been told that ArrayLists were not the best choice for this and would be prepared to change my design if need be if I thought the end to this problem was in sight.

4. I've been working on an application for a week now, but suddenly I can no longer access my Design View(Shift-F7). All my codes are written on the [form name].Designer.vb. I can still view my codes but I cant access my form layout. On the solution explorer, my forms no longer have the 'form icon'. When i press Shift-F7 nothing happens. Right-clicking the form on the solution explorer doesn't show 'View Designer' option. How can I fix this?

I have one small problem on my app, here's the deal, when I run my app that have a button for "load playlist" and when I click on file>options my app is looking for settings.xml (created before by the same app) on the same folder from where I loaded my playlist. Load playlist button is on my Form1 and Form4, and settings is on my Form6, and this happend every time I load anything, open anything, so my app remembers last opened folder. Is there any way that I can return my path to apps path? I need to mention that this applies only to Windows XP, idk why, because on my win7 it works just fine.

Im am trying to get two separate applications to communicate with one another via a txt file. The first application writes to a txt file every even second and the second application reads the text file every odd second. The problem is Im getting an exception saying The process cannot access the file FILE_PATH.txt' because it is being used by another process. Not sure if my code is correct or not? Or if there is a better way to do this?

Is it possible in VS2010 to create a new MDI application and import stand alone Windows forms applications into it?
The reason I ask, is we have a number of tools that have been created as single apps but there are quite a number of them and it would be nice to combine the lot into an MDI app.
However I don't really want to re-write any of the apps, so is there a way to import them instead?
I migrated some applications from Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2010. I develope using VB.NET in VISUAL STUDIO 2010 on a Windows 7 PC (32 bit). The applications writed in VB.NET - VS2005 run correctly in PC having XP, VISTA, WINDOWS 7 and Windows Server 2008. After the migration, the exe of these applications work correctly in PC having XP, Vista, Windows 7 but work stop immediatly on Windows Server 2008. The error returned is 'System.InvalidOperationException'. Seems that the application stop when attempt to evaluate the first global variable that meets. If i change the framework from 2.0 to 3.5, things don't change.

I would like to convert a VB.NET 64-bit desktop application to a desktop WPF application and also to web-based Silverlight application. Can you write 64-bit applications using WPF or Silverlight using
VS 2010?
If not, can you write 32-bit WPF and Silverlight programs that act as the presentation managers that interface with the user and have them use 64-bit class libraries? Or do all modules have to be either 32-bit or 64-bit?

Tried SendKeys, but this only sends one key at a time (sometimes more, but inconsistent) with multiple cmd.exe windows opening. Need to be able to send a whole command (string) to only one cmd.exe window.
