VS 2010 Path For External Application?

I guess this one is pretty basic, yet i have not been able to figure out.So here's the deal, my application uses an external exe to generate some txt files that the application needs for a use case. Since hard coding the path of such exe would be hideously wrong in so many aspects i would like to include a little configuration option for the user, so he can specify the path of the external exe for the application to be used.I also would like to have something like that for the path of the Database I'm actually using.

My question is as follows: The user has clicked File>Open in Notepad and also clicked on a file/folder. My Application in VB.NET needs to know the path and filename of the selected file/folder before the user selects the OK button of the Open Dialog box. How can I do this with VB.NET (VS2010).

I know that here there is a similar question but I would like, if possible, to be able to define a relative path for 'Start External Program' or any workaround that do not constrain me to add a complete new empty project to my solution. I am using VB.NET in Visual Studio 2010 environment developing WinForms apps.

I'm trying to set hotkeys for all my favorite websites. When one of these hotkeys are pressed, I want it to load the assigned website in internet explorer, but I want internet explorer to load on my SECONDARY monitor. I've already set out the hotkeys to load internet explorer, but it loads on the wrong screen. How to check if an instance of IE is already running. To be a bit more specific: the secondary monitor is set to the LEFT of the primary one. And the resolution is at 1440 x 900. So basically, I want to programmatically set IE's position to (-1440, 0) from within my application itself.

I am placing an external program into my application. The current code is as follows:

What I want is for "notepad" to open up maximized and without a border. I already have it maximized, but I want the border gone.
Also how can I make my current form the same size as the process?

I have a VB application that executes an external application, via Shell().
What I want is to be able to have control over the "shortcut properties", if you will (such as icon & title), resulting in the external app being forced to use that specified icon and title for its spot in the taskbar while it is running.
A normal desktop shortcut does this easily (by editing its properties) but I don't know if it's possible to take advantage of that.

This does not work
Nor thisSystem.Diagnostics.Process.Start("Program.exe")
Only this works...but I can't use the Drive path..cannot hardcode it.
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C:Program FilesX-ProgramProgram.exe")
So how do I start an outside Exe file from within vb net without hardcoding the path.

I'm writing small VB.Net app which should build reports based on data gathered from some external MDB-files (Access 2007).
It was planned that this app will use parametrized SQL queries to collect data from DBs.
One of the parameters for these queries is path to the external MDB-file.
Here goes sample code:
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:TempTemp.mdb;")
conn.Open()

Looks simple but doesn't works. After launch my app throws following exception - System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Disk or network error.
Have spent a whole day to make it work with no success. What have I done wrong?

1. Just looking for some general help on how to auto update my application via a file location path (e.g. I have a HTML file containing the current file version and the .exe file to download)
What I need is to read in the HTML file version - DONE Check file version vs HTML file stream input - DONE Replace current .exe file with new .exe file - HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS
I know I have to close the application and then replace the old exe file with the new exe file then restart the application but looking for the best/safest way this can be done
2. Basically what I want is during my Splash screen which runs for 5 seconds I want to check if a network drive is mapped.
if not, pause splash screen ask user for address of drive, map drive then un-pause splash screen and continue with load how do I check if a network drive is mapped? and how do I pause the splash screen?

I'm developing an application in vb.net. You drag any type of file onto the exe, and a window pops up with some options for the file, then it saves the file to a different location, works some SQL magic, etc. It works great for the most part. The only issue I've found is that if the path of the file contains any spaces, the application will crash immediately with the error window:[URl]..I'm using: Private filename as String = Command$ This is located right inside my form's class declaration, not within a sub/function.Without this line, my program runs fine (although useless, without accessing the file).I've also tried (I think this was it, I don't have the code with me at the moment): Private filename as String = Environment.CommandLine So, in vb.net, is there a way to drag a file onto an exe and use that path name, even if there are spaces in the path name?

I use SetParent to make an external application a "child" of my Main .Net application. This works fine.What I need to know is why can't I use Me.MDIChildren(0)I thought that using SetParent would increase the number of children by 1, thus allowing me to reference it with the above code, but it shows there are no children in the array.I have been trying, without luck, for 2 days to try to maximize an external app being displayed in my app. I can get it to display, but I would love it if it could Dock to the same size as its container (a panel)

I am having trouble getting the path of my application's executable file at runtime. This application is being started by another executable and whenever I try to use Application.ExecutablePath I get the path to that application instead of mine.

Neither of these give me the path of the program in which those two lines are exectured, they only tell what program started this program.

I have a quick, yet simple (i think?) question. How can i use the address bar to send commands to a external application?
Example:
AOL Instant Messenger I havent used this application in a long time. But i remembered if you wanted to add a friend to AIM from their online profile it directed them to a link such as:
aim:addfriend=contactID and AIM would pick this up and add it the contactID to the application. The link i posted is more than likely not the correct link they use but it shows what im trying to accomplish.

I'm trying to use the Shell to have my application call an external application but its not working...I don't understand why. I get the following error: 'System.windows.shell' is a namespace and cannot be used as an expression!

how to center an external app on the screen, an example would be Adobe Reader, using either Process.Start or Shell. I've 'attempted' both but haven't found anything to control the position. I've also found some code using Api32 functions, FindWindow, MoveWindow, etc, but have not been successful at those either.

I have looked all over for an answer to this question and have failed to find one. I have two applications. App1: I have no control over anything in this application aside from standard user inteface options. (Enter text, apply, ok) Someone else has created this program and I have no direct access to the database or any code. I can not make any changes to this application.App2: This is the application that I am currently creating. All changes will need to be made here.I currently have a program set up to copy information from App2 to App1. A user clicks a button in App2 and then goes to App1 and hits F8. App2 is waiting to get F8 and when it does it proceeds to use a series of sendkeys to enter the information from App2 into App1.Question 1: Is there a better way to get info from App2 into App1?I am trying to "smarten" my program up a bit. I would like it to read fields from App1 and compare them to certain variables and then do an action. I have tried to use sendkeys to copy from App1. This sometimes works, and other times the clipboard says object not collected it is not a valid format. So this method is obviously not reliable enough for me.Question 2: How do I copy data from a text box in App1? Sendkeys seems to not work. Again, keep in mind that I don't know textbox names in App1 so as far as I know, I can't do anything like textbox1.copy.

In VB.NET, you can set focus to an external application using
AppActivate("Windows Name")
or
AppActivate(processID As Integer)
Now this works fine if you do for example:

But when I do:
