You drag any type of file onto the exe, and a window pops up with some options for the file, then it saves the file to a different location, works some SQL magic, etc. It works great for the most part. The only issue I've found is that if the path of the file contains any spaces, the application will crash immediately with the error window:[URl]..I'm using: Private filename as String = Command$ This is located right inside my form's class declaration, not within a sub/function.Without this line, my program runs fine (although useless, without accessing the file).I've also tried (I think this was it, I don't have the code with me at the moment): Private filename as String = Environment.CommandLine So, in vb.net, is there a way to drag a file onto an exe and use that path name, even if there are spaces in the path name?

i have a word template that needs to be used in an application so to make the path simple i placed the template in the debug file and i used application.stertuppath and it worked but when i publish the application it does not work it seems that the template is not included in the application but even when i place it manually in the aplication folder it does not work
View 13 RepliesI am using vb.net 2003. In my program, the user can use an openfile dialog box to locate the address of a image and use it to change the display. The name and path of the image is saved in a database. This image is then loaded upon startup. If the image is located in the start-up directory the image change and saving to the database works great. But if the image is located some where else the image change occurs, but the path of the database has changed to the location of the image. Since the database is not located there, I get an unhandle exception error. What is the code to redirect the program to my startup path?

I guess this one is pretty basic, yet i have not been able to figure out.So here's the deal, my application uses an external exe to generate some txt files that the application needs for a use case. Since hard coding the path of such exe would be hideously wrong in so many aspects i would like to include a little configuration option for the user, so he can specify the path of the external exe for the application to be used.I also would like to have something like that for the path of the Database I'm actually using.
View 2 RepliesI sent the application exe to a user to test and they get an unhandled exception error and the details show my personal My Documents Folder/DEBUG path from the project. So I tried to use Application.ExecutablePath but when I release that it points to "My Documents" Folder (not the debug) folder. The file to open is in the same folder as the exe is in but for some reason the error occurs because the application is not looking for the file using the path where the EXE was launched from. Here is my code that relates to the section giving my users a problem:

Looks simple but doesn't works. After launch my app throws following exception - System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Disk or network error.
Have spent a whole day to make it work with no success. What have I done wrong?

My question is as follows: The user has clicked File>Open in Notepad and also clicked on a file/folder. My Application in VB.NET needs to know the path and filename of the selected file/folder before the user selects the OK button of the Open Dialog box. How can I do this with VB.NET (VS2010).
