I have made a form that exports to xml and refer's to a xsl sheet to open into html format. Now what I want to do is build this program with these xml and xsl files in it. I also want the user to push submit and the xml inside the build opens up.
I understand the Diagnostics.Process.Start but for some reason its not referring to my xsl file its just loading all the values in order. My question to yall is how do i set a path inside my application for the xsl and xml to refer to each other.
Is it a dll i need to compile if so any guidance their. Im a beginner and am still learning.
im new to coding (started coding last month) so im a little stuck on how to do this, im making some emulation programs to learn coding with, and a part of it is to point the app to a .iso/.bin file and scan the data inside of the iso/bin to check if a file exists.[code]My issue is i cant find any class examples, or any information etc on how to code it so my application can see the data inside of the iso/bin instead of just see'ing the iso/bin file, so that i can then check the data inside the iso to see if the file exists etc.Im a novice still at coding so making a new class myself to look inside the iso/bin is to complex for me.
I need to open some external applications such as notepad.exe inside the VB.NET MDI form, and also I need to make sure that there is exactly only one copy of this running always.[code]....
Whats up all I've recently been working with the MDI options in vb.net but I have a question. Is there away to open external applications inside of the MDI application. What I mean is Taking command prompt for example and opening it withing my MDI app. It only shows the file in my app and not on the taskbar. Can I do it or no?
I'm developing an application with Visual Studio 2008 (with visual basic), first of all, I'll give a brief of what I'm planning this module will do.
It's an accounting application, that I use to administrate some of my company's movemets. The application links directly with MS SQL server 2005, and sends queries to the database like: client name, employee Id, transacion type etc. Right now I'm developing a contracts module, wich is intended to be used with Microsoft Word 2007. We want the module to do the following: (It's a contract document; the document should get the variables from the application like contract type [that would change the template of contract used in microsoft word depending on the type], Client name, Salesman name, today's date, name of the company's representative)
1) After the data has been captured from the application (the application has a capture module that sends the info to the database), instantly send the capturer to microsoft Word, to a layout that has variable fields that should fill themselves with the database information ( I don't have a clue on how to do that )
2) The capturer should be able to change text in the contract layout and fix the variables info in case they were misstyped, adn when he/she saves the document; if there were any variables edited, they should get updated in the database; and the application should be saved with a name that has variables on its name ( 1)today's date in DDMMYY format, 2)First 2 letters of the client's name, 3)last 3 digits from tye contract number), save the file in a directory where all contracts are in .docx format (could use any frmat, it actually doesn't matters), and send the file location to the databse; to a table field named "file" wich only has the file's route.
3)From my application, when consulting the data, give the app access to the file directly; simply by getting the query form the database.
Upon another event, we need to refresh the browser window with different parameters for strItem and strOrder.
If I call the same code above, it opens a new tab in the browser window. Is there any way to refresh the same browser window that was previously opened?
I'm trying to open a text file that was already generated with info inside.I want to read specific lines and have them changed via user input.the lines are not consistently on the same "line".An example of the text I'm trying to read and change is:
// General (upgradeable) values the Player sees for each system hullLevel = 1700 weaponsLevel = 1450
[code]....
The "H" in hullLevel shows up in line 26 in some of the files, line 27 in other, line 36 in some others and line 37 in yet others.
The reason this jumps around is that this comes from a file that is edited by other modders when they create a ship for a game that I'm modding. My program is designed to allow the user to visually see a representation of how strong and well equiped a ship is and change the values of each line with a slider bar.I have all the slider bar and progress bar code worked out.
I just need a way to reliably pull these lines no matter where they are from the ship file chosen by the user so that the program can edit them without disturbing the rest of the text in the file.
i was wondering if i could access a folder inside the Resources folder of the application? i would make it to eliminate the use of the debug directory in storing files and to use the clickonce deployment.
Just adding a file to my application so when it is published the file(s) goes with it is not enough, this application has links in it so when you click the links the file and it corosponding application open. I can link to the file on my computer easily, but this application is going to be distributed via CD or DVD so i need these file to go with them or the links are useless. I would just point the links at the cd drive, however not all PC's have the same drive letter making a default drive link a little complicated( yes im a newbie ). Here is a sample of what im working with, i want to link to 3 file types .docx, .pdf(thanks ADOBE SDK), .ppt and the like. so far the applications are working great so all i need is either how to add all of these files to myapp and link internally or some knowledge on how to write a link to the CDROM drive as oppossed to the D: or E: drive specifically. Here is a snip of a MSWORD link-
I'm quite new to this app.config function. Hope someone can show me the road on this. I have a solution which comprise of 5 projects and one of them just to retrieve the value from the app.config file to be read by other projects. So, in the app.config file, i have my connection string stated inside and i can use it nicely.
I have a menu with a lit of mp3 files, once I click on a name it should open and run mp3 file using the default player (example windows media player), I searched and found how to do that but within the application which I don't want.
I have referenced this thread and the website it points to:pening a file in my application from File ExplorerAs of now, I can't get My.Application.CommandLineArgs to work properly. Any time I select an file to open in my program I get a windows error forcing the program to close. I only want to get the file path from My.Application.CommandLineArgs and pass it to a function that will then parse the file (a text file of various extensions, even if it is not associated with my program) and display the contents in a RichTextBox.My function to open the file is complete and works, but if I try to use My.Application.CommandLineArgs on a file the program crashes immediately.here is the code I'm trying as a test:
Private Sub ParseCommandLineArgs() If My.Application.CommandLineArgs.Count > 0 Then MessageBox.Show(My.Application.CommandLineArgs(0))
I have a program I made in vb.net express 2008 that used java.utils.zip to compress my work files to a Zip archive that I ran occassionaly to have a backup. I worked fine, but with net framework 4 and vb.net 2010 it doesn't work. So I modified it to use sharpziplib and it works fine if all files on the filter list in the folder are closed, but if I have a file open in OpenOffice writer, my program can't access it and won't create the zip file. The file that usually stays open all the time is my TODO list, that is updated several times a day , so usually gets printed, and updated( adding or deleting entries), without closing it.
I have A program which contains a combo box that has a value which is a link to a local file. I want the user to be able to open this file when they click a button.
Previously I have done this in VBA using Application.FollowHyperlink Me.txtAuth. Is there a way to do this in VB.NET?
The target file is a .TIF I've read a bit on using a file browser to complete this but I want it to open the file selected on the form.
I'm a relative newcomer to VB.NET so please forgive any lack of knowledge.
I'm writing a web application that lists the contents of a directory in a listbox and then (in theory) opes the file that the user clicks on.
What I'd like to do is open the listed file in it's associated application (so if it's an excel file, open excel; if it's a notepad file, open notepad).[code]...
I have an application which read data from Excel sheets when I drop them into one of apps forms. Is it possible to write an app. with which I will be able to use "Open file with", and the result will be the same as when I drop a file into a form? And is it also possible to add this option to the context menu strip of files with specified format?

I created a VS2010 application that stores data in xml files with a custom extension (e.g. ".ABC") I would like to be able to open an .ABC file and have the application launch with the specific file's data loaded. This is analogous to opening a Word doc and having Word open with the doc loaded. I have searched for a while but can't even think of a phrase that explains this process. Nothing seems to match "You know . . . that thing that happens when you double click on a data file".
I would like to open a file in an application using vb.net 2008. I am unsure which namespace to use. I do not want to assume it is the current associated application. I believe there should be a way to... Dim app as something Open a file in that app
I need to open any kind of file with its respective application from vb.net code, just like when we double click a file in windows it gets opened with its appl, like a WORD file with MSWORD, .xls file with MSEXCEL etc
I am trying to write a code to save and open data that is in my application. My application contains hundreds of text boxes, combo boxes and labels. I have created an array for each set of data, i.e.,
glist(0).store=combobox1.value glist(0).cat=combobox2.value glist(0).it=label3.text glist(0).quan=label4.text glist(0).total=label5.text up to glist(89).
Is there a way to write a code to loop through the array and save the values so that they can be opened at a later time in my application? The array will contain Doubles and Strings.
