i was wondering if i could access a folder inside the Resources folder of the application?
i would make it to eliminate the use of the debug directory in storing files and to use the clickonce deployment.
So i created resource file New --> new file --> Native Resource Template Then added icons with custom id, like "x", "u_100", .. so i understand, what the files (in my case icons) is.. And i saved as 32-bit resource file (*.res) So i have a question, how can i use these files inside of resource file in my apps? i know how to add icons in to my app.. Me.Icon = New Icon(C:/icon.ico)

Almost like a save file of sorts, just for some basic numeric variables.Getting the information in and out won't be too much of an issue, however I am wondering if there is a way that during the installation of this application, I could specify a place to create and save this text file, for eg:

I have made a form that exports to xml and refer's to a xsl sheet to open into html format. Now what I want to do is build this program with these xml and xsl files in it. I also want the user to push submit and the xml inside the build opens up.
I understand the Diagnostics.Process.Start but for some reason its not referring to my xsl file its just loading all the values in order. My question to yall is how do i set a path inside my application for the xsl and xml to refer to each other.
Is it a dll i need to compile if so any guidance their. Im a beginner and am still learning.

View 3 RepliesJust adding a file to my application so when it is published the file(s) goes with it is not enough, this application has links in it so when you click the links the file and it corosponding application open. I can link to the file on my computer easily, but this application is going to be distributed via CD or DVD so i need these file to go with them or the links are useless. I would just point the links at the cd drive, however not all PC's have the same drive letter making a default drive link a little complicated( yes im a newbie ). Here is a sample of what im working with, i want to link to 3 file types .docx, .pdf(thanks ADOBE SDK), .ppt and the like. so far the applications are working great so all i need is either how to add all of these files to myapp and link internally or some knowledge on how to write a link to the CDROM drive as oppossed to the D: or E: drive specifically. I have a resource file that I include in my shared code library that has all of my re-usable classes in it (all the resources go into their own namespace). Now, what is the best practice regarding resources... should I include them in the same DLL, or should I have a seperate resource DLL and/or are there any benefits from seperating them out into their own file.

I understand this is possible but I am not sure where to start. I want to either buy or create an application that captures a resource from another application so that I can fire off another application. In other words, I want to start an application (which I did not write) that is database driven so the form has a number of text boxes. When someone keys something into that field I want to be able to validate the value, outside of the original application. For instance, if the program asks for a zipcode and it doesn't validate the zipcode, I'd like to trap for that and write something that would validate it. At this point I don't think I'd have to send anything back to the textbox/resource.
View 1 RepliesI recently picked up the VS.net 2008 Trial, looking to possibly buy it. I added a splash form, and not even the default code works. First, I got the error "'My' is not defined". I went under my project, clicked the resources tab, and it asked me to create a resources file. So I did. Now, 'My' is defined, however 'My.Application' does not work. I'm assuming I simply have to add Application as a resource, just as I did with My.Resource. I'm not sure how to do this, and I apologize if this has been asked before. I did do a search but it yielded no results. 'My' was a bit too vague and returned no results, 'not defined' was a bit too vague and returned a bunch of results
View 2 RepliesHow can i make it so when my application has been compiled, a user can press a button, and then save a file within the exe its self (thus, a resource). Or text in a text document (not a setting, because when the exe changes places on a user computer, it will loose its settings. The main need for this is so that the exe can change locations / computers, but still retain the origional data (or text) stored in it.

I also know how one localizes this file by adding the appropriate language abbreviation (i.e., es, en, etc.) after the name of the file (i.e., str_resource.es.resource).None of this is terribly difficult. However, I haven't been able to fine how to do what I want to do.

Right now i have a line of code, in vb, that calls a text file, like this:

data5.txt is a resource in my application, however the application doesn't run because it can't find data5.txt. I'm pretty sure there is another code for finding a .txt file in the resource that i'm overlooking, but i can't seem to figure it out.
I have File Like "Sample.bak" and when I compress it to be "Sample.zip" I lose the file extension inside the zip file I meann when I open the compressed file I find "Sample" without any extension.

View 2 RepliesI have added two images as a resource in my project. I'd need to copy these images to a certain folder when the program is started. I'm not familiar about using resources, so far I have managed to set a picturebox to show one of these images like this:
