VS 2008 Resource File To Physical Local File?

Sep 1, 2009

I'm trying to output a resource file to a physical file on my hard drive. Here is what I have so far from researching but I think I'm doing it wrong.

Dim ms As New System.IO.MemoryStream(My.Resources.File1) Here is how I would do it in VB6, but I'm trying to catch up with the times and move on to the new stuff.

Dim c() As Byte
Open Sysdir & "mswinsck.ocx" For Binary Access Write As #3
c = LoadResData(103, "Custom")

.net - Windows Forms Local Resource File?

Sep 8, 2011

I am using a number of localised form resource files in order to store translation strings. In addition to the standard component captions and text values, I am storing localised messagebox strings for things like autosave notifications. However, when opening the form again, the additional messagebox strings have been removed from all the form resource files. Is it not possible to store additional strings in these files? Or is there a workaround?

Wpf - .NET Make A Copy Of An Embedded File Resource To The Local Drive

Apr 8, 2010

I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.)

In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File-->New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory.

The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor)

I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime?

.NET 2008 Get Resource File As IO.Stream?

Jul 5, 2010

I am developing a VB.NET 2008 application, consisting of a main EXE application and several resource DLLs.

I need two functions for the DLL:

1) one function to get a list of all files in the resources of the DLL.

2) one function to return 'by name' a resource file as a System.IO.Stream type.

NOTE: The files will not be "Embedded Resource" (this doubles the size of the DLL), so I think cannot use 'GetManifestResourceStream'.

2008 : Get Resource File As IO.Stream?

Jul 6, 2010

I am developing a VB.NET 2008 application, consisting of a main EXE application and several resource DLLs.I am trouble with two functions for the DLL:

1) one function to get a list of all files in the resources of the DLL.

2) one function to return 'by name' a resource file as a System.IO.Stream type.

NOTE: The files will not be "Embedded Resource" (this doubles the size of the DLL), so I think cannot use 'GetManifestResourceStream'.

I currently use:

Return New System.IO.MemoryStream(My.Resources.MyFileName)

but I want it to be called by name.I am adding the resources using the VS 2008 "Resources" tab, from the My Project screen, I'm not manually editing Resources.resxAs I said before, it works with:

Return New System.IO.MemoryStream(My.Resources.MyFileName)

but I need to get the resources by name, which also works by using

GetMAnifestResourceStream

but this requires to set the resources Build Action to "Embedded Resource", which doubles the size of my DLL file.I currently use "None" as Build Action, but I can use any Build Action that does not increase the file size more than the actual resources size.

Text File Resource - VB 2008?

Jun 5, 2009

I'm trying to write an application that requires information to be saved once the application has been exited. In order to do this I have been experimenting with storing the data in text files. More specifically I've been looking into adding text files as application resources. I am using VB Express 2008 and added the text file resource through the application tab>>Resources>>Add Resource>>Add new text file. I am able to use my.resources.TextFile1 to read the text file but I am unable to write anything to it. I have tried using my.resources.TextFile1.replace and .insert but neither of those are working out. I was thinking there is maybe a read only setting somewhere, but I have not been able to find any information on this issue.

Getting Physical Path Of File In Project Directory?

Dec 15, 2011

I am using Environment.CurrentDirectory to get the current directory, i.e. "D:ChuttuProjectsLICinDebug"

But, I want to remove "inDebug"

How can I do that? Or is there any way so that I can get the directory up to "LIC"?

Actually this is my connection string:

Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|LIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True

But when I use this and try to insert data into the DB, the data is not inserted. When I use the connection string with a physical path it starts working:

Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:Chuttu VBProjectsLICLIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True

I am trying to get the physical path of the mdf file and use it in the connection string.

EDIT:

This piece of code works fine:
Private Sub save()
Dim con As New SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:Chuttu VBProjectsLICLIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True")

Resource File ( Resx ) Editor Not Painting / Rendering In Visual Studio 2008

Jan 18, 2010

I have Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed and lately it is taking longer and longer to bring up a Resource File (.resx) in its standard editor. Some of the file loads up, but you can see that the screen does not paint/render it 100%.I tried doing some searching on the web and the only thing I came across was doing a edit to the GDIProcessHandleQuota registry entry from 10,000 to 20,000. This appeared to work initially, but the problem came back the next day.I am doing an extensive localization project and this is severely limiting the amount of work I get done.

Compare File From Server Then Update Local File

Jun 9, 2012

I'm making a game in Gamemaker and i'm using VS2010 to create a launcher for it. The launcher works like the Minecraft launcher:

it has to check a file from my server, then compare it to the local file, and if they aren't the same, the launcher has to re-download the game.exe from the server.

This all has to happen when i click play. To make the game start i use
Process.Start(My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory & "\game.exe") i've put the game in the solution explorer.

put 'copy to output directory' to 'copy always'. i appareantly had to do that according to a tutorial to launch game.exe. Now, as i've said, i'm quitte new to VS 2010.
