.net - Windows Forms Local Resource File?
Sep 8, 2011
I am using a number of localised form resource files in order to store translation strings. In addition to the standard component captions and text values, I am storing localised messagebox strings for things like autosave notifications.However, when opening the form again, the additional messagebox strings have been removed from all the form resource files.Is it not possible to store additional strings in these files? Or is there a workaround?

I'm trying to output a resource file to a physical file on my hard drive. Here is what I have so far from researching but I think I'm doing it wrong.
Dim ms As New System.IO.MemoryStream(My.Resources.File1) Here is how I would do it in VB6, but I'm trying to catch up with the times and move on to the new stuff.
Dim c() As Byte
Open Sysdir & "mswinsck.ocx" For Binary Access Write As #3
c = LoadResData(103, "Custom")
[Code]....

When I was using ASP.NET I used to build a page and then run Generate Local Resource and it would build a resx page with all my strings. Is there a way to do this with VB.NET?

I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.)
In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File-->New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory.
The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor)
I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime?

I'm going to be using a text file to record and save values, line by line, and then pull these values out again upon restarting the application. Almost like a save file of sorts, just for some basic numeric variables.Getting the information in and out won't be too much of an issue, however I am wondering if there is a way that during the installation of this application, I could specify a place to create and save this text file, for eg:
c:ProgramFilesPOSxstocklevels.text
I have VS8 Professional, so I do have the Setup Wizard tool, which may allow me to attach files.

I have a simple windows Forms application where in I have a usercontrol called "MyControl" derived from PictureBox.
In this MyControl, I have the following code :
Sub New()
MyBase.New()
Me.BackgroundImage = My.Resources.MyImage 'This is a project resource image
End Sub
Now when I drag and drop this MyControl into a form, I get the image and also those stuff. But the problem is that the BackgroundImage is being copied into the Form's local .resx file.So when I look into the form.designer file, I find the following :
Me.MyControl1.BackgroundImage = CType(resources.GetObject("MyControl1.BackgroundImage"), System.Drawing.Image)
This is a problem and also when I try to change the image in the control, it does not get reflected in the form's control instance.

We're writing a Windows client application in VB.NET. On the first launch of the application it loads a local HTML file "User Guide" for the user to get acquainted with the new software. There is also a menu option to access the content which also produces the same error. Whenever the page is launched, a dialog box appears stating that "The system could not find the specified file.", and then the browser windows loads the content. This is IE8 specific, as we previously tested with IE6 and 7 as well as Firefox with no problems.
Apparently this behavior is also happening within Outlook 2007 for some of our users whenever they click a link in an email, but only on the first link they click. Also, one condition for the error to appear is that no IE8 window is currently running, otherwise another tab opens and loads the content just fine. We get this error on XP and Vista.

I have a resource file that I include in my shared code library that has all of my re-usable classes in it (all the resources go into their own namespace). Now, what is the best practice regarding resources... should I include them in the same DLL, or should I have a seperate resource DLL and/or are there any benefits from seperating them out into their own file.

I want to display files pretty much as similarly to windows explorer when set to thumbnails as I can. Most importantly I need to be able to show thumbnails of videos and images that windows can(im aware that not all videos are supported).
I'm fairly new at this. I havn't done any programming in years and I've never been amazing at it, I've already got this directory list done so this is the next step in my project...

We are using a web browser to show a pdf file located in a folder on the network. The code looks like this:
System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser.Navigate(New Uri("\hostpath ofile.pdf"))
This works fine, but now I have to use a specific user to access this file and I don't know how to include the user name, password and domain in the URI. Is it posible to add user credentials to the URI? Can I use another variant of Navigate method to accomplish this?

I'm guessing there is a really simple answer to this but i've spent the best part of 2 days trying to get it to work and cannot figure it out.Basically, I want is the webbrowser to point to a local folder on a machine. A different one depending on who is logged on. The code I have so far is as follows.
Imports System.IO
Public Class frmFav
Private Sub frmFav_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim username As String
[code]....
I cannot get the URL value of the webbrowser (FavProgs) to take the value of directoryname. If I set the URL value in the properties for FavProgs it does what I want it to do perfectly.

I have developed a windows application for my company. It is a multi user software and we are using sql 2008 as the database. The sql 2008 is installed in our company server. Within our LAN, there is no problem in accessing the software and its working pretty fine.
Now the problem is, some of the managers need to go out frequently(for business tour and all) and they need access to this software. The software is already installed in their laptops.Is there any way to access the database that is in our company server ???
We have few static IPs with us, is there any way i can use that here (Using NAT in the firewall or something)?
