We have a certain application installed on a single machine. I would like to enable/disable a button based on the existence of this application. Is there a way to check for its existence from asp.net?

Locally and on integration environment generated PDF file is much readable i.e.font size is good. But the PDF file generated on production environment is different in formatting.The lines are wrapping and font size is also little small. There is not Adobe installed on integration.

I have developed a VB 2010 express application that works on my windows 7 machine, but when I deploy it to other windows 7 machines the application will not run at all. I created an msi script to install the software on other machines and it includes the .NET 4.0 framework an all of my application dll's and such. Any idea what might be he problem?

We are using a Windows 7 virtual machine as a testing platform for our VB 6 application. Th application utilizes an Access database.The application locates the database by looking at a configuration (ini) file.When I install the application on the virtual machine, it places a database where InstallShield directs it to and writes that path to the ini file. All well and good.However,somehow a second copy of the database is created in a user local folder.
If the user uses the "run as administrator" option, the application uses the database that is in the location designated in the ini file and that works fine. But if the user does not select the "run as administrator" option, the application apparently somehow attempts to use the local database and is unable to locate it.
Is this behavior is peculiar to the virtual machine, or is it something we need to be concerned about on "real" Windows 7 systems?If it is peculiar to the virtual machine, is there some way to get the virtual machine to behave more normally?
Do users of windows applications have to have the database application installed if your program uses databases to store information? For example, when making VB2008 programs, if I use the visual studio express database (.sdf), or maybe a MSAccess database, to store information within my visual basic program...when I deploy the application to the users, can they run the program okay even if they don't have MSAccess installed on their computer?Also, do I need to have MSAccess installed in order to write programs that use MSAccess databases?

View 3 RepliesI have developed a windows application for my company. It is a multi user software and we are using sql 2008 as the database. The sql 2008 is installed in our company server. Within our LAN, there is no problem in accessing the software and its working pretty fine.
Now the problem is, some of the managers need to go out frequently(for business tour and all) and they need access to this software. The software is already installed in their laptops.Is there any way to access the database that is in our company server ???

However, when I remote in with a service account and double click the same .exe, it tries to connect to the local host database and ignores the app.config. The code is the same, only the login name I use is different. The login I use is part of the local admin group. Any ideas?
View 2 RepliesI'm using VS 2010, and I did a project using VB and a database in Access. The problem is that when I try to put that "application" on other computers, sometimes, is not working. I thought it can be because on these computers they don't have access, but on one computer, is running another app which is using Access and there is no Access installed. How can I check if my application requires Access to be installed or not?

I am using mshtml to parse HTML in my ASP.NET-MVC application. Works great on my development machine, which has VS2008 Professional installed. Works great on my staging machine, which has VS Express 2008/WebDev installed. But it throws a FileNotFoundException when trying to load the COM object on the production server, which has no versions of Visual Studio.
Exception type: FileNotFoundException
Exception message: Could not load file or assembly

I don't want to install Visual Studio on the production box. I have read a suggestion that running C:Program filesCommon FilesMerge modulesvs_piaredist.exe solves this problem but this directory does not exist on my production box. How can I use mshtml on the production machine?

View 3 RepliesI have a Windows application written in VB.NET in Visual Studio 2005.The application opens a form to perform some measurements and to present data.
The application works fine when i run it om my "development computer" in debug mode. Also when i install in and run it on my computer.
But when i install it on the customer computer and run it i get a form that is smaller in size (not as wide as in my computer) and the result is that lots of graphics components are located outside the form and therefore not availible for the user.
I installed VB Express 2008 on my machine and it went without a redistributable file. It got download during the install. Anyone knows where I can download the redsitributable file from, so I can give it to my students?

I'm facing a problem reading .csv file into datatable. The machine on which i install my window service ( which reads the csv ) is Windows Server 2008 R2.The error i get is : The 'Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine

I'm setting up a simple "machine status" page to monitor a server. I want to display the Drives on the machine, including mapped network drives and show their free space, etc.
I'm using System.IO.DriveInfo.GetDrives() to return a collection of DriveInfo objects. I then itterate that collection to display the relevant information.
The issue I'm having is that only local drives appear. (A:, C: and D:) No mapped drives "Network Locations" appear in the collection.
I'm thinking it has to do with the user account that's executing the code (if that makes any sense). So if the code is executing under the user "ASPNET" (or whatever it is) the drives would have to be mapped under that user. As it happens, I have the server set up like a workstation and it logs in automatically under the user with the mapped drives.
What I've done:
- I have set the Web Site's Anonymous Authentication user to that same user
- I have set the Identity of the Application Pool to which my web site is assigned to be that same user.
I am getting this error when trying to connect to sybase database using oledb connectivity from visual studio.net 2005. The 'Sybase ASE OLE DB Provider' provider is not registered on the local machine.

It works fine on computers running Vista and Windows 7 that also have Access installed. Howerver when run on a computer with Windows 7 that does not have Access installed. The following Error Message appears whenever there is an attempt to access the database:
The 'MS JET.OLEDB 4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.Reviewing MS info, it appears that mdjet40.dll is found in XP and earlier and that syswow64.dll is found in Vista and later.What do I need to do to make my program run on all versions of Windows with or without Access installed?
I have a text file on a website that I have the direct URL address to. For example, http://www.example.com/thisFile.txt .
I would like to copy it to a predefined path on the local machine. For example, C:Documents and SettingsAll Users .
What can I use to copy the file from the URL to the predefined path on the local machine. A simple CopyFile doesn't seem to handle URL addresses.
