We have a certain application installed on a single machine. I would like to enable/disable a button based on the existence of this application. Is there a way to check for its existence from asp.net?

I am generating PDF file using Crystal report ExportToDisk method in VB.NET 3.5.
Locally and on integration environment generated PDF file is much readable i.e.font size is good. But the PDF file generated on production environment is different in formatting.The lines are wrapping and font size is also little small. There is not Adobe installed on integration.
From my vb.net code I am trying to set a printer name for the crystal reports printing
rpt.PrintOptions.PrinterName="johnKingHP LaserJet 2200 Series PCL"
But when I go to windows-->Start--> Run and enter JohnKing
It is showing me Printers and Faxes folder and Scheduled task folder. But when I open Printers and Faxes it will show the adderess as Printers and Faxes on JohnKing.
From my web application I want to sent the Printer name is the name shown above.
I have this partially working but only shows printers for one user, need all local and network printers mapped for ALL users on a remote pc so I can migrate them, I know I need to do some sort of for each method but not sure what will work

View 3 RepliesI have a Windows application written in VB.NET in Visual Studio 2005.The application opens a form to perform some measurements and to present data.
The application works fine when i run it om my "development computer" in debug mode. Also when i install in and run it on my computer.
But when i install it on the customer computer and run it i get a form that is smaller in size (not as wide as in my computer) and the result is that lots of graphics components are located outside the form and therefore not availible for the user.

I'm facing a problem reading .csv file into datatable. The machine on which i install my window service ( which reads the csv ) is Windows Server 2008 R2.The error i get is : The 'Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine
Below is the code i use to fill the dataset from .csv file :
string connstr = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0;Data Source=" + System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(arrFilesName[iCount].ToString()) + ";Extended Properties = 'text;HDR=YES;FMT=Delimited'";
OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(connstr);

I also looked at the other option i.e. Micorosft.Office.Interop.Excel but that also needs Excel installed.So, I would like to know that, is there a way to read a .csv file without having Microsoft Excel install on the machine.

I see several posts about getting the UNC of a remote drive, anyone have any ideas how I get the name of a shared directory on a local machine?
View 1 RepliesIIS7 running on Windows Server 2008 R2. Development environment is VWDE 2010.
I'm setting up a simple "machine status" page to monitor a server. I want to display the Drives on the machine, including mapped network drives and show their free space, etc.
I'm using System.IO.DriveInfo.GetDrives() to return a collection of DriveInfo objects. I then itterate that collection to display the relevant information.
The issue I'm having is that only local drives appear. (A:, C: and D:) No mapped drives "Network Locations" appear in the collection.
I'm thinking it has to do with the user account that's executing the code (if that makes any sense). So if the code is executing under the user "ASPNET" (or whatever it is) the drives would have to be mapped under that user. As it happens, I have the server set up like a workstation and it logs in automatically under the user with the mapped drives.
What I've done:
- I have set the Web Site's Anonymous Authentication user to that same user
- I have set the Identity of the Application Pool to which my web site is assigned to be that same user.

I basically need the script to run on workstations, delete printers from our old print server (master), and install the corresponding printer from our new print server (dc01). I should also mention that the printer names have changes slightly. So far, the script does a great job of deleting printers from Master, but none of the corresponding dc01 printers are installed.

I have a program written in VB 2008 express. It connects to an Access database via Jet4.0 OLEDB. It works fine on my computer running windows xp. It works fine on computers running Vista and Windows 7 that also have Access installed. Howerver when run on a computer with Windows 7 that does not have Access installed. I currently have a part of my program that uploads an image file MainChart.png from a set location (locally) to a set remote location(on the ftp server). What I would now like to do is be able to upload more than one file at the same time.
What I am currently doing is repeating the same block of code, but changing the image file name from MainChart.png to another one of the image file names, so have about 8 instances of this block of code, Where the file name is just changed.
Does anyone know how I can do this in just one block of code, rather than the program having to keep calling another Sub and logging onto the FTP site each time for each image file that I want to upload?

Is it possible to point the install of ClickOnce to a directory of my choice on the local computer instead of caching it in Documents and Settingsuser? some place like c:Program FilesFoo Apps for example? Dev/Usr Environment info: I am using VB Express '08 and SQL Express '05 for my applications in a corporate networking environment and the users will be installing from a network share drive. I have tested this and it works fine, just the location seems to be undesirable.
good database that I can use on a local machine to store names/addresses etc. and that integrates easily into .Net 2.0.I have used MySQL a fair bit, so something along that route would be great but without the need to install additional software on the computer or connect externally to a server.

View 7 RepliesQuestion: How do I programmatically determine which provider to use (Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 vs Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0) when my app runs as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?
I'm developing a VB.net WinForms app in VS 2010 and targeting both x86 and x64.The app processes data from xls, xlsx, mdb and accdb files using System.Data.OleDb:Dim oConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=...")
The x64 version of the program works as expected. The x86 version works as expected on a system with Office x86.When I run the x86 version on a machine with Office 2010 x64, I get the following exception when trying to open a connection:
The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.I believe this is because I'm running Office 2010 x64 so the x86 data access components are not installed.I can get it to work for Office 2003 files (*.mdb and *.xls) by changing the provider to Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0.
How do I figure out which provider to use when running as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?Ideally, I'd like a function:If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0") Then
Else If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0") Then

I am in the following situation: I have been requested to write an application for managing where we have customers - this must flag up when we try to add a customer too close to another one, so must be able to calculate distances based on post codes.I have chosen to use ASP.Net VB because I am fairly good at that and I like that the browser does all of the layout for me (using Java or C# would mean having to position each element individually).I have copied a few files from the company's website (which I also wrote) and modified them to account for the database structure we need for the new app.I have designed the database to account for the requirements of the new app.I have set up a website in IIS on port 81 through which to view the app.
