Asp.net - Use MSHTML On A Machine That Does Not Have Visual Studio Installed?

May 20, 2009

I am using mshtml to parse HTML in my ASP.NET-MVC application. Works great on my development machine, which has VS2008 Professional installed. Works great on my staging machine, which has VS Express 2008/WebDev installed. But it throws a FileNotFoundException when trying to load the COM object on the production server, which has no versions of Visual Studio.

Exception type: FileNotFoundException
Exception message: Could not load file or assembly

I don't want to install Visual Studio on the production box. I have read a suggestion that running C:Program filesCommon FilesMerge modulesvs_piaredist.exe solves this problem but this directory does not exist on my production box. How can I use mshtml on the production machine?

Get Wrong Size Of Form When Appl Is Installed On A Different Machine

Jan 16, 2012

I have a Windows application written in VB.NET in Visual Studio 2005.The application opens a form to perform some measurements and to present data.

The application works fine when i run it om my "development computer" in debug mode. Also when i install in and run it on my computer.

But when i install it on the customer computer and run it i get a form that is smaller in size (not as wide as in my computer) and the result is that lots of graphics components are located outside the form and therefore not availible for the user.

Read CSV File Into Dataset/datatable Without Having Microsoft Excel Installed On That Machine?

Dec 16, 2010

I'm facing a problem reading .csv file into datatable. The machine on which i install my window service ( which reads the csv ) is Windows Server 2008 R2.The error i get is : The 'Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine

Below is the code i use to fill the dataset from .csv file :

string connstr = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0;Data Source=" + System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(arrFilesName[iCount].ToString()) + ";Extended Properties = 'text;HDR=YES;FMT=Delimited'";
OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(connstr);

[code]....

I also looked at the other option i.e. Micorosft.Office.Interop.Excel but that also needs Excel installed. So, I would like to know that, is there a way to read a .csv file without having Microsoft Excel install on the machine.

Detect Whether IIS 6.0 Metabase Compatibility Is Installed?

Feb 17, 2011

I have built a web setup project using VS 2008, wherein I need to check whether IIS 6.0 Metabase compatibility is installed. I tried it by accessing registry keys specifed in here in custom actions. But when I run the installer, I the key comes out to be blank irrespective of whether metabase compatibility is installed.

To further check the problem, I created a Console app to access the same keys. When I run it on win7, the app fails. Then, I ran it in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and it ran perfectly.

I am open to other bullet-proof means of detecting whether IIS 6.0 Metabase compatibility is installed

How To Detect Installed Games On A System

Nov 26, 2009

I am writing a application where i need to know which games are installed on a system.I have 3 ways by which i think i can detect the games

1: Scan specific parts of registry and look for key names that match with a List of Publishers. The list is manually maintained.

2: Scan the hard disk for and do same as in step 1

3: run the program in background and check for programs in memory that use a large portion of memory(which games always do) and if they use Direct X ( Which all games do except for some) then its a game.

Now i have been thinking about it and first and second method seems to be in need of a updated database ie list of publishers to make out if a particular program is game.

X86 App On Machine With Office X64 Installed Read Xls, Xlsx, Mdb And Accdb Files Using System.Data.OleDb?

Apr 19, 2012

Question: How do I programmatically determine which provider to use (Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 vs Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0) when my app runs as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?

I'm developing a VB.net WinForms app in VS 2010 and targeting both x86 and x64.The app processes data from xls, xlsx, mdb and accdb files using System.Data.OleDb:Dim oConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=...")

The x64 version of the program works as expected. The x86 version works as expected on a system with Office x86.When I run the x86 version on a machine with Office 2010 x64, I get the following exception when trying to open a connection:

The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.I believe this is because I'm running Office 2010 x64 so the x86 data access components are not installed.I can get it to work for Office 2003 files (*.mdb and *.xls) by changing the provider to Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0.

How do I figure out which provider to use when running as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?Ideally, I'd like a function:If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0") Then

Else If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0") Then

Detect If MS Runtime Or Office Is Installed On Computer On Application Stratup?

Oct 3, 2011

I have a WinForm program developed in VB.Net with Visual Studio 2005. The program needs Microsoft Office Runtime installed atleast on the computer to allow the application to run without any errors.

Is their a way to check the computer to see if the minimum of the Runtime or Microsoft Office is installed on the computer? If either isn't I would like to display a message to the user on the startup of the application that states to atleast go to Microsot's site (I have full link to Runtime Download) and download the runtime for free.

Or is their a way to include the runtime as a component with my install for the application so if it isn't installed on the computer already it will install when the application is installed?

C# - Detect If .NET Assembly Is Running From Website Or From A Desktop Machine?

This is crucial guys, (licensing purposes), and I don't want to get fired because I did a mistake. So, please, be direct and if you please give me some code snippet.

EDIT v 2.0: What about using in the assembly:

[assembly: "AspNetHostingPermission (SecurityAction.RequestRefuge, Unrestricted=true)]"

to prevent the execution on the web?
