what happens if I use a font in my WinForms app that isn't available on the target machine - does it use a font in the same family or just Sans Serif or something else?

View 6 RepliesI have an application that takes a series of reports and sends them as attachments in an email to a specified group of email accounts.
When I run the Java version of this using apache commons and the same setting, the email is sent. However, when I run the VB.NET version of the code, it fails on my local machine and on the client machine.
I have a VB.NET web application running on a server that uses similar code. I tried that code locally and it fails. Yet, the web application is working perfectly.
Why is it that the Java application can send the email, but the .NET application cannot?[code]....
why this code doesn't work?

open and read and write and save to Excel and word documents in a program if the machine that is being run on does not have either of thies apps installed. Are there files that I can include in my application that it could be worked on in my application and not need word or excel?
View 3 RepliesI am using mshtml to parse HTML in my ASP.NET-MVC application. Works great on my development machine, which has VS2008 Professional installed. Works great on my staging machine, which has VS Express 2008/WebDev installed. But it throws a FileNotFoundException when trying to load the COM object on the production server, which has no versions of Visual Studio.
Exception type: FileNotFoundException

I don't want to install Visual Studio on the production box. I have read a suggestion that running C:Program filesCommon FilesMerge modulesvs_piaredist.exe solves this problem but this directory does not exist on my production box. How can I use mshtml on the production machine?
I'm looking on the Internet but not found anything about how to detect what the frameworks are installed. Someone I can provide that code to VB. Net? TcoUpLoad (work with Vb6 and VbNet)

I have a Windows application written in VB.NET in Visual Studio 2005.The application opens a form to perform some measurements and to present data.
The application works fine when i run it om my "development computer" in debug mode. Also when i install in and run it on my computer.
But when i install it on the customer computer and run it i get a form that is smaller in size (not as wide as in my computer) and the result is that lots of graphics components are located outside the form and therefore not availible for the user.
I installed VB Express 2008 on my machine and it went without a redistributable file. It got download during the install. Anyone knows where I can download the redsitributable file from, so I can give it to my students?

Locally and on integration environment generated PDF file is much readable i.e.font size is good. But the PDF file generated on production environment is different in formatting.The lines are wrapping and font size is also little small. There is not Adobe installed on integration.
I'm facing a problem reading .csv file into datatable. The machine on which i install my window service ( which reads the csv ) is Windows Server 2008 R2.The error i get is : The 'Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine

I'm developing a VB.net WinForms app in VS 2010 and targeting both x86 and x64.The app processes data from xls, xlsx, mdb and accdb files using System.Data.OleDb:Dim oConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=...")
The x64 version of the program works as expected. The x86 version works as expected on a system with Office x86.When I run the x86 version on a machine with Office 2010 x64, I get the following exception when trying to open a connection:
The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.I believe this is because I'm running Office 2010 x64 so the x86 data access components are not installed.I can get it to work for Office 2003 files (*.mdb and *.xls) by changing the provider to Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0.

But, as Chart Control needs to be installed beforehand (with admin rights and not with classic ClickOnce deployment), I need to detect if the component is available on the machine. So I tried to create a new Chart and to handle the possible Exception but it seems it is not possible to catch it (too low level Exception?) :

I am using VB Express 2005 because the machines my applications are running on are more likely to have .NET 2.0 installed. Is there a way to use VB Express 2008 but stop the client asking for .NET 3 3.5 (especially as the functions I am using are pretty basic!)?

View 3 RepliesI have created an application in VB.Net 2010 and am using an Access 2010 db. Connecting to this DB I use the Provider= Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 and it works fine on my machine. This was a recent update from using Jet as that provider was having issues on client Win64 computers that had Access 2007 or 2010 installed.Basically my issue is that I get the error that Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 is not installed when I try to run the application on the client.
The problem however, is that I do not want ask the users to install Data Access Objects in addition to .Net 4.0. I want a simple install that they can run and upgrade to .net 4.0 if they need to. The above thread states a solution as "You can also consider to use ADO.NET object in System.Data.OleDb namespace to connect to the Access database instead of the Provider. In my opinion, this is the best choice since the ADO.NET provides you the powerful data access objects." This sounds like a great option, however I cannot find any way to install the ACE dll and get it to work on the client.what do I need to include in the client installer to get my application to run on systems without Access installed? Do I just include the ACEODB.dll or is there something else that needs to be done?
