Software Saves Output Files In Documents On Every Machine It Is Installed In?
May 3, 2009
I am developing a software and i need to make it save a text document, I can make it save it by writing the path of my document on my machine but it wont work on other machines when installed, how can I make it do this?
Question: How do I programmatically determine which provider to use (Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 vs Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0) when my app runs as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?
I'm developing a VB.net WinForms app in VS 2010 and targeting both x86 and x64.The app processes data from xls, xlsx, mdb and accdb files using System.Data.OleDb:Dim oConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=...")
The x64 version of the program works as expected. The x86 version works as expected on a system with Office x86.When I run the x86 version on a machine with Office 2010 x64, I get the following exception when trying to open a connection:
The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.I believe this is because I'm running Office 2010 x64 so the x86 data access components are not installed.I can get it to work for Office 2003 files (*.mdb and *.xls) by changing the provider to Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0.
How do I figure out which provider to use when running as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?Ideally, I'd like a function:If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0") Then
Else If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0") Then
I've been asked to get the page counts for documents stored as tif files. What I have now is looping through our third party software to open them and then get the page count. I can't stop the image from flashing and it is very slow. Does anyone know of a way to loop through them quickly and can the page counts (one image can have many documents)?
what happens if I use a font in my WinForms app that isn't available on the target machine - does it use a font in the same family or just Sans Serif or something else?

I am using mshtml to parse HTML in my ASP.NET-MVC application. Works great on my development machine, which has VS2008 Professional installed. Works great on my staging machine, which has VS Express 2008/WebDev installed. But it throws a FileNotFoundException when trying to load the COM object on the production server, which has no versions of Visual Studio.
Exception type: FileNotFoundException Exception message: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.mshtml, Version=7.0.3300.0,

I don't want to install Visual Studio on the production box. I have read a suggestion that running C:Program filesCommon FilesMerge modulesvs_piaredist.exe solves this problem but this directory does not exist on my production box. How can I use mshtml on the production machine?
I'm looking on the Internet but not found anything about how to detect what the frameworks are installed. Someone I can provide that code to VB. Net? TcoUpLoad (work with Vb6 and VbNet)
We have a certain application installed on a single machine. I would like to enable/disable a button based on the existence of this application. Is there a way to check for its existence from asp.net?
the app is currently on an XP machine, but want to code for Win7 as well. VS2008 3.51. Asp.net
I have a Windows application written in VB.NET in Visual Studio 2005.The application opens a form to perform some measurements and to present data.
The application works fine when i run it om my "development computer" in debug mode. Also when i install in and run it on my computer.
But when i install it on the customer computer and run it i get a form that is smaller in size (not as wide as in my computer) and the result is that lots of graphics components are located outside the form and therefore not availible for the user.
I installed VB Express 2008 on my machine and it went without a redistributable file. It got download during the install. Anyone knows where I can download the redsitributable file from, so I can give it to my students?
I'm creating a WindowsForm application and I need a code to check target's machine installed version of DirectX.If the reg key doesn't match with provided one >>> load the form and launch the DX installer "redistdirectx_Jun2010_redistDXSETUP.exe"If the reg key matches with the provided one >>> launch other application "Setup.exe"
I am generating PDF file using Crystal report ExportToDisk method in VB.NET 3.5. Locally and on integration environment generated PDF file is much readable i.e.font size is good. But the PDF file generated on production environment is different in formatting. The lines are wrapping and font size is also little small. There is not Adobe installed on integration.
I'm facing a problem reading .csv file into datatable. The machine on which i install my window service ( which reads the csv ) is Windows Server 2008 R2.The error i get is : The 'Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine
Below is the code i use to fill the dataset from .csv file :
I also looked at the other option i.e. Micorosft.Office.Interop.Excel but that also needs Excel installed. So, I would like to know that, is there a way to read a .csv file without having Microsoft Excel install on the machine.
What I am trying to do is set a timer going which is set off by an output from an external signal from a machine tool. At present the code is activated through a button on my form. This is the code I am using Public Class Form1 Private CompTime As System.Int32
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load CompTime = Environment.TickCount End Sub Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick Label2.Text = TimeOfDay End Sub
I have trouble trying to create versioning of files like words documents. I would like to edit a word document and save it with the same name but I' like to choose between the modified last one with the original unmodified.
I have a quick question. One of the functions in the program I am writing is to take all of the data entered, compile it into an HTML document, then place that document into a folder. For the past few days, I have just been using a random folder on one of my hard drives to dump the file in, but the problem is that, in my code, I have supplied the folder location as a string ("E:Practice FilesDocuments"), and therein lies the problem. Trying to test my program on a separate system brought the bug to my attention; obviously, this program can only write this file to a location of E:Practice FilesDocuments, and if any other computer that runs this program doesn't have E:Practice FilesDocuments then there is going to be a problem in the program working the way I have intended
So what I would like to do is instead of having it write the file to "E:Practice FilesDocuments," have it write to the default My Documents folder so that the program is no longer specific to my machine only. The problem is, though, I have no clue what the right code is to use. I first tried using
System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().Location to write the file to the default installation directory. This would have worked, but since this is a VB.NET program, the default installation directory isn't in Program Files and doesn't seem to be meant for users to browse through for their documents, plus it seems that trying to write back to this directory causes some unhanded exceptions and whatnot. I figured it would just be easier to create a folder in My Documents rather than use the install directory (and probably smarter).
i have 2 problems the first problem is if i have a .txt file how can i extract specific data. the second problem can i create batch files on the fly because of the need for a variable again it may not make sense but shout tyrannically
I have a system which needs to be secure which streams relatively large documents from a webservice to a proxy (Web site) whch then grabs the stream and pushes this to the client. This works but there are some issues where it seems the response is not being pushed until the entire stream is complete? whether this is the case Im not sure have run charles and until it completes it is "Waiting for response".
The documents are currently PDF but it needs to handle many other types for the future. The octet stream etc is mostly testing related, how to get the Dialog to show - saying save as? for the large files the little ones don't matter to much but the big ones leave a big waiting period with no response.
Dim IncomingResponse As HttpWebResponse = DirectCast(Request.GetResponse(), HttpWebResponse) Dim IncomingStream = IncomingResponse.GetResponseStream()
Dim BufferSize As Integer = 65536 Dim Buffer(BufferSize) As Byte
I have a Windows XP box that is showing vulnerable by a 3rd party scanner for MS08-070 in regards to four OCX files tied somehow to Visual Basic 6.0. However VB6 is not installed on this computer; attempts to download MS08-070 and patch doesn't work.I'm guessing there is a some other application that may have dropped these in my c:windowssystem32 folder. The file versions are older as compared to what MS08-070 say they should be so I'd like to get them patched/updated.Microsoft's recommendation in the article is to update the application on a machine that has the latest patches for VB6 and redistribute that application.
I am trying to manipulate files as part of a Document Management application that stores documents in a location on a Network Drives. But the My.Computer.FileSystem.Drives collection does not contain the Network Drives mapped on my machine. I have about half-a-dozen of these, but none of them seem to show up in the Drives collection and thus are not visible to the other FileSystem functionality I need to use for file management.
how to make sure the Drives collection contains all my drives? I am running VS2010 Premium edition on Windows 7 64-bit on a 64-bit Dell machine.
i have a audio program that will play some mp3 files from a folder. but the audio files together take up about 1 gb. it is possible to let my program download the files from the internet after it is installed on a computer. to a specific folder..?
This app will allow user to select a file, folder or an installed application and then assign it a hotkey...My question is how can I get the complete path of a file, folder, or application in vb like in many application the browse button shows the complete path in a textbox, and then how this app will allow user to assign it a hotkey? And how am I going to save the path and hotkey in a database?
I currently have a part of my program that uploads an image file MainChart.png from a set location (locally) to a set remote location(on the ftp server). What I would now like to do is be able to upload more than one file at the same time.
What I am currently doing is repeating the same block of code, but changing the image file name from MainChart.png to another one of the image file names, so have about 8 instances of this block of code, Where the file name is just changed.
Does anyone know how I can do this in just one block of code, rather than the program having to keep calling another Sub and logging onto the FTP site each time for each image file that I want to upload?
Private Sub FtpMainChart() ' FTP_URL, FTP_UserName & FTP_Password, are variables that hold the FTP credentials, declared earlier in the code.
I have recently published a simple text editor(just as an exercise). the editor has been published using Microsoft Visual Basic Express. Once the program is installed i wanted to make it a default opener for .txt files, so i clicked openwith ->Choose default program and then i was asked to show the location of the .exe. It seems like the .exe of my installed program doesn't exist. where the .exe is on a windows7 or tell me of another way of makeing that program the default opener.
I need a vb source to get the web server path files and download it to the local machine. actually a web html page in that i have href tag to call the vb exe file, in vb file i have to find current server path and download some supporting files to local machine
Dont know how easy this would be, but basically I'm just wondering if there is any way in VB.net you can close open files on a remote PC.In my scenario the vb.net app would be running with domain admin permissions in most cases so would have access to things like the remote Computer Management console, which of course has the Open Files section in it which lets you close any open files on the remote machine its connected to.So I fugured there must be some way to do it in vb.net... I just dont know if its going to be more hassle than its worth and I dont really know where to start looking (ive used googled but not had much joy).
