Assign Hotkeys To Installed Applications, Files And Folders In A System In VB?
Jun 13, 2011
This app will allow user to select a file, folder or an installed application and then assign it a hotkey...My question is how can I get the complete path of a file, folder, or application in vb like in many application the browse button shows the complete path in a textbox, and then how this app will allow user to assign it a hotkey? And how am I going to save the path and hotkey in a database?
When I try to access the folder "System Volume Information" and other system files I get the errorAccess to the path 'H:System Volume Information' is denied.
I have an application which uses hotkeys which are to be defined by the user. It is a combination of 2 keys, either CTRL, ALT, SHIFT as one hotkey and the F* Function keys as the other (e.g. CTRL + F1, ALT + F2 or SHIFT + F8) As stated these are then chosen by the user before a global keyhook is put in place to listen for them and trigger an event. In my app I have all my function keys as follows:
Public Const VK_F1 = &H70 Public Const VK_F2 = &H71 Public Const VK_F3 = &H72
i want to know how to hide files and folders at system/kernal level. Those files must not be accessible through any means untill they are unlocked again with same method. I want to create an application similar to Folder Lock apps commercially available
Question: How do I programmatically determine which provider to use (Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 vs Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0) when my app runs as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?
I'm developing a VB.net WinForms app in VS 2010 and targeting both x86 and x64.The app processes data from xls, xlsx, mdb and accdb files using System.Data.OleDb:Dim oConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=...")
The x64 version of the program works as expected. The x86 version works as expected on a system with Office x86.When I run the x86 version on a machine with Office 2010 x64, I get the following exception when trying to open a connection:
The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.I believe this is because I'm running Office 2010 x64 so the x86 data access components are not installed.I can get it to work for Office 2003 files (*.mdb and *.xls) by changing the provider to Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0.
How do I figure out which provider to use when running as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?Ideally, I'd like a function:If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0") Then
Else If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0") Then

Do users of windows applications have to have the database application installed if your program uses databases to store information? For example, when making VB2008 programs, if I use the visual studio express database (.sdf), or maybe a MSAccess database, to store information within my visual basic program...when I deploy the application to the users, can they run the program okay even if they don't have MSAccess installed on their computer? Also, do I need to have MSAccess installed in order to write programs that use MSAccess databases?
I am trying to write vb program that creates system wide Hotkeys and runs at the background. The hotkey is to enter system date in another application.
Have built a project and associated it with a Setup&Deployment Project. The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?
I'm currently working on an application that allows users to select picture files and then categorize them into folders. Now I'm having two issues that are probably simple to fix but I only have a year of experience with vb so I just don't know how to fix them. The first and biggest issue is that once the user has selected and categorized a file, I want the program to select the next file in the folder that the first file was moved from. This way the number of clicks required is minimized. However I have no clue what I would need to do in order to accomplish this. Also, my other problem is that I want to be able to find the indexof a quotation mark but whenever I put it in the parameter it just reads it as a quote.
I wrote windows app to upload files to different FTP sites by picking the files from different folders.A log is displayed by appending text to the textbox at every step.Textbox is ReadOnly.
Issue:When app is loading a bf file to FTP and if user tries to scroll the textbox, the form is hanging and going to Not Responding.?
Actually I want add some folders and files to MSI. Through custom action i want to copy that added folders and files to some destination/target folder.

Code: Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
I want to know if the .net framework is installed on the system if it is not installed on the system then i would like to give a message to the user about it and exit my application. The problem is if the frame work is not installed on the system the application doesn't even starts.
I have a dll installed on my machine and want to find a way to verify this programatically with VB.Net. I have been trying to use LoadLibrary but it always returns a zero. Can someone provide a code snippet of how I might do this?
Also, if there is another way to verify that a dll is installed, without having to supply a full path, please let me know.
I have to access the active x dll which is installed on my system from VB.net.
I added as reference and followed all the steps as given in I have declared private mycomponent as activexcomponent.libclass and i gave constructor for this i.e. creating the object for this class in the constructor of the main form as mycomponet = new activexcomponent.libclass()
Then the following expection is coming when i tried to run the program.
System.InvalidOperationException: An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details.
Is there an easy way to get a list of the installed web browsers on the system (including the path to their respective .exe)? I have a web application which uses the Web Browser Control, but I would like to give the user the ability to view their web page in any of their other installed browsers.
I am writing a application where i need to know which games are installed on a system.I have 3 ways by which i think i can detect the games
1: Scan specific parts of registry and look for key names that match with a List of Publishers. The list is manually maintained.
2: Scan the hard disk for and do same as in step 1
3: run the program in background and check for programs in memory that use a large portion of memory(which games always do) and if they use Direct X ( Which all games do except for some) then its a game.
Now i have been thinking about it and first and second method seems to be in need of a updated database ie list of publishers to make out if a particular program is game.
I am having trouble developing an asp.net page. I can create custom collections and use them in win apps, but when i reference the system.collections namespace, the page response hangs up. No exception info is passed back or anything. The page just freezes. Is this a common problem. I am wondering if its due to the assembly not being present (but am unsure why an exception wouldn't indicate this.).
I am using Visual Basic 2008 express and I have created a simple database application for my y6 pupils. The program will eventually be installed on the school system but, i want to know how I can ask vb to find which folder the application was installed in and get it to return a string. Does anyone know how to do this??
I have a bunch of images loaded in as resources then i added a mediaplayer.resx file so i could keep the images separate... only now i have just discovered it doesnt? It still puts all images together, so i cant add multiple images with the same name? (needs to be the same name - its a filename)
how to add folders and images right into the project explorer. How do I then reference the images? are they just like files? so it would be app pathfolderimage.png ? WIll it add to the distibution like this?
I'm writing a little app that I can tell to delete files older than x amount of days.
You select a folder and click go and it does the job but it only does the files within that folder. What I want to do is also delete all the files in all the sub folders. [code]....
I'm new to VB.Net, i have a situation like, you have folder name "Arrange", inside this, it contains so many "txt" and "zip" files, you can rearrange it by right clicking and select "Arrange By , Last modified", i have to access this option through code and have to do this every time while i'm looping or entry of the function.
I can do this in program through forEach loop and get details like filename and creationDate, but i want to arrange it in "Arrange" Folder.
I have the following code which works without errors but I don't know how to implement another process as explained below:
Code: Private Sub Daily_Collections() 'Dim query As String Dim cmd As New SqlCommand Dim conn As SqlConnection = GetDbConnection() 'destination of the unzipped files [Code] .....
In the highlighted section, I move all the files stored in the path in label2.text to label4.text. Now, I want to change that for not moving everything but ONLY the files when prac_no as read from QryDailyAuto_Coll equals to Col_Prac_no. All other files should not be moved..
