For example, when making VB2008 programs, if I use the visual studio express database (.sdf), or maybe a MSAccess database, to store information within my visual basic program...when I deploy the application to the users, can they run the program okay even if they don't have MSAccess installed on their computer?Also, do I need to have MSAccess installed in order to write programs that use MSAccess databases?

View 6 RepliesI want to make a program which first of all check whether a serie of programs is installed, if a program is installed I would like to find the installation path, so I will be able to work with it further..My first though was to check in the registry, there is theinstallation path also mentioned right?Another possible way was to search all the harddrives for a specific .exe fil. If then the file is found, the program is installed, and you should be able to find the path to the found .exe file. This is more "secure", right? - Because not all program is registred in the registry right? (E.g. if you move it from another location, and doesn't install it).
View 7 RepliesI have one small problem on my app, here's the deal, when I run my app that have a button for "load playlist" and when I click on file>options my app is looking for settings.xml (created before by the same app) on the same folder from where I loaded my playlist. Load playlist button is on my Form1 and Form4, and settings is on my Form6, and this happend every time I load anything, open anything, so my app remembers last opened folder. Is there any way that I can return my path to apps path? I need to mention that this applies only to Windows XP, idk why, because on my win7 it works just fine.

I'm using the setup method to deploy an app I wrote. The program installs fine, but If I want to reinstall it I get an error message saying the program is already installed and I have to uninstall it first. Is there a flag somewhere when I create the setup file to allow it be installed over itself?

My Visual Studio 2008 seems to be corrupted. I can not use the Windows Forms designer. I get an error about: "Make sure the application for the file type (.vb) is installed." Also, under menu item Tools>Options, it says "an error occurred loading this property page" when I try to look at the options for 'Data UI Customization' under 'Windows Forms Designer'

Well, the path of the .zip file has spaces in it and it's not recongizing the path as a valid path. Is there a another way to tackle this problem besides the shell?I can't us pkzip either. Okay so here is my problem i made a program that when a user opens a folder it will displays the files inside the folder into a list view box but my problem is that i want to add an image right before the path of the file.

I am trying to read and display a file using MapPath as follows :

This procedure will work fine and display in the browser. However, if I save the file to C:Document123.pdf, how can I access this file using relative path in MapPath function. Is there an option to access the file which is saved out of IIS server? I am using vb.net 2003.
I'm using acrobat that returns unix paths instead of windows path's. So im wondering if there is a way in vb.net to convert the path to windows path.

I need to access a file path, but a part of the path is different on each PC. Mozilla creates a random profile name for each PC it is installed on. I can get most of the path through environment variables. I need to access the files inside of the default profile, but can't since I'm not sure how to access it.
Here's an example of the file path:
'C:Users\%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfilesxxxxxxxx.default'
The only thing that stays the same with the profile name, is the '.default' part.
