I want to make a program which first of all check whether a serie of programs is installed, if a program is installed I would like to find the installation path, so I will be able to work with it further..My first though was to check in the registry, there is theinstallation path also mentioned right?Another possible way was to search all the harddrives for a specific .exe fil. If then the file is found, the program is installed, and you should be able to find the path to the found .exe file. This is more "secure", right? - Because not all program is registred in the registry right? (E.g. if you move it from another location, and doesn't install it).
View 7 RepliesI have started working on the module based application (plugin based architecture) and client want setup of module that can be run later and added automatically in main application. So, what I am thinking to apply in module setup project is to find the installation directory of main application and then paste dll of module in specific sub-directory.
Is it possible? Is there any other way to add feature in main application later using setup?

View 2 RepliesI have created an shareware application using vb.net visual studio 2008 for windows desktop, and packaged it using innosetup 5.3.8. The problem is when i have installed the application in C:Program FilesApplication and it runs successfully(use trial period of the application), Im also able to install the application once again freshly with the same setup by installing in different directory.eg C:Program FilesApplication new . The application in C:Program FilesApplication new does not have any settings of the already installed one.
Where do i went wrong . Do i need to take care of this in my application(vb.net) or innosetup. How to take care of the already installed path in innosetup or carry the settings of already installed application to newly installed path by upgrading the older one.
I dont want to write any thing in registry because the application does not want any administrative permission requirements.If i install the application in same path it gets updated with the older settings being taken over to this new one and it works fine.
I have designed and published my small created app with WINDOWS FORMS using VB 2010 EXP on Windows 7. I can only install the app on the machine that I used to develop the app.I want to install the app on another computer but I cannot. I usually have error reports.
Example:Unable to install or run this application. This application requires Microsoft Common Language Runtime 4.0.3 to be installed on your computer.
what can I do to be able to install the app on a different computer which does not have .Net and does not have visual basic 2010 installed.
I have recently created an application with Visual Basic.NET. I published my application and installed it. Now the question is that I need to know where exactly does the application gets installed on my system ?

View 5 RepliesI have an Access database ubicated in the path: C:Documents and Settings obertoMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsDictionaryDictionaryDictionary.mdb But when I execute the instrucction: stringConnection=System.IO.Path.Combine Application.StartupPath, "Dictionary.mdb") the path where catches the database is : C:Documents and Settings obertoMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsDictionaryDictionaryinDebugDictionary.mdb
That`s is the reason why I am astonished because the insertions and updates in the database are made in this last path. Why having the database path in other path which isnīt inDebug works with this last?
There is a field in the database whose value is the StoredProc name with full path.for example test01.test.dbo.spGetData
test01 is the server name
test is the database
spgetdata is the SP
I am storing this in a variable
Session("GetSP") = objReader(1).ToString() (test01.test.dbo.spGetData)
Dim Command As New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand(Session("GetSP"), conn)
Command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
I always get an error cannot find the SP and it shows like this test.dbo.spGetData It is cutting of the servername test01 always.how can i get the full path.
Im looking for a way that if the program detect that for exemple the path "C:" is "true" then it will add , for exemple , "Hard Drive" in the checkedlistbox.

View 1 RepliesI'm need of some way of finding the UNC Path of a share via a script or command line or even a custom created program. I'm trying to automate deletion of users and the setup is a bit complicated.
Home folders are set up like this:
We create a folder on a Disk on a fileserver.When this folder is created, a share is automatically created on a lower levelThen the DFS Links are set up towards the newly created share.
Now, when deleting a user, I could just delete the DFS Folder, meaning that the target folder is the one being deleted. But since it's a share, that cannot happen.
I know the default install path of the app and the name of the .exe file, but is there a way to see if it is actually installed? I've seen suggestions for checking registry entries, but I don't know if this app uses any or if if varies for different users on different pc's.

I have tried publishing a later version but when I try to install it I get the same message. The click-once publisher generally includes an uninstall program with the applications. when Ive had this problem before it was fixed by republishing as a newer version.
