Asp.net - Retreive Data Stored In A Webserver DB Using Windows Application In Local Machine?
Sep 24, 2009
My local machine is using windows application for an appointment fixing .I want to retreive data from webserver DB which also does appointment fixing by online for the same organisation. So I want both these to work in co-ordination.As my first step I want to import data.
We have a certain application installed on a single machine. I would like to enable/disable a button based on the existence of this application. Is there a way to check for its existence from asp.net?
the app is currently on an XP machine, but want to code for Win7 as well. VS2008 3.51. Asp.net
I'm successfully communicating string data to and from with a webserver using the System.Net.WebClient and the Upload method. Now I'd like to be able to upload files from my local app to this webserver. I get that it's probably very similar to what I'm doing with the string data, but I've not done anything with files that aren't ascii based so am hesitant as where to begin. I don't want to corrupt the file.
I have developed a VB 2010 express application that works on my windows 7 machine, but when I deploy it to other windows 7 machines the application will not run at all. I created an msi script to install the software on other machines and it includes the .NET 4.0 framework an all of my application dll's and such. Any idea what might be he problem?
Can I get info from stored cookie on the local machine. I have a Webbrowser control in a winform, and I would like to output data from a cookie to a label or so.
We are using a Windows 7 virtual machine as a testing platform for our VB 6 application. Th application utilizes an Access database. The application locates the database by looking at a configuration (ini) file. When I install the application on the virtual machine, it places a database where InstallShield directs it to and writes that path to the ini file. All well and good. However, somehow a second copy of the database is created in a user local folder.
If the user uses the "run as administrator" option, the application uses the database that is in the location designated in the ini file and that works fine. But if the user does not select the "run as administrator" option, the application apparently somehow attempts to use the local database and is unable to locate it.
Is this behavior is peculiar to the virtual machine, or is it something we need to be concerned about on "real" Windows 7 systems? If it is peculiar to the virtual machine, is there some way to get the virtual machine to behave more normally?
How can an application, running on a production server, access the login username of the machine that a user is accessing an application from? For example, I am currently logged into my machine on the INTRA corporate intranet. My username will be INTRAUsername. I have added specific usernames to a database and wish to check this intranet username against the database to restrict access to an application and leverage the username across the application.Currently, I am using the following code to access the username:rivate username As String = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Namehis is working great on localhost, but when authenticating against the database on a development server, I'm getting the following error:
I have developed a windows application for my company. It is a multi user software and we are using sql 2008 as the database. The sql 2008 is installed in our company server. Within our LAN, there is no problem in accessing the software and its working pretty fine.
Now the problem is, some of the managers need to go out frequently(for business tour and all) and they need access to this software. The software is already installed in their laptops. Is there any way to access the database that is in our company server ???
We have few static IPs with us, is there any way i can use that here (Using NAT in the firewall or something)?
how can i deploy windows application developed using Vb.net and Sqlserver R2 Express as local database?..how can i make it in setup format(including sqlserver) to deliver to clients?is it compulsory the client should install SQL Server R2 Express in his system apart from the installation of this windows application?
The application sits on a virtual environment and when I remote in and run the application, it connects to the remote database. However, when I remote in with a service account and double click the same .exe, it tries to connect to the local host database and ignores the app.config. The code is the same, only the login name I use is different. The login I use is part of the local admin group. Any ideas?
When it is installed on a machine, it will run for all users. But for some users, it is unable to get some data from the database. I have found out that if it is run-as either administrator,or in winxp compatibility mode, it works. But if not, then some users have the problem. The database is in the same C: drive location as the exe, and it doesn't change from user to user. The computer is using windows 7 professional 32-bit.
I Converted my project(Its contain the rdo2.0's) from vb6.0 to Vb.net 2005. Its working fine in development machine( in Development have the Vb6.0 and Vb.net 2005). I have set paths in my program to look for files in the "c:/Documents and Settings/User/ Local Settings/Application Data/".How do I add the "Documents and Settings/User/Local Settings/Application Data/" folder in the setup program? Everyone tells me to use the Local Settings path for my application data but I can't add this folder in the File System Editor. I have read many different help files concerning special folders but none of them explain how to add the local application data folder.
IIS7 running on Windows Server 2008 R2. Development environment is VWDE 2010.
I'm setting up a simple "machine status" page to monitor a server. I want to display the Drives on the machine, including mapped network drives and show their free space, etc.
I'm using System.IO.DriveInfo.GetDrives() to return a collection of DriveInfo objects. I then itterate that collection to display the relevant information.
The issue I'm having is that only local drives appear. (A:, C: and D:) No mapped drives "Network Locations" appear in the collection.
I'm thinking it has to do with the user account that's executing the code (if that makes any sense). So if the code is executing under the user "ASPNET" (or whatever it is) the drives would have to be mapped under that user. As it happens, I have the server set up like a workstation and it logs in automatically under the user with the mapped drives.
What I've done:
- I have set the Web Site's Anonymous Authentication user to that same user
- I have set the Identity of the Application Pool to which my web site is assigned to be that same user.
I am getting this error when trying to connect to sybase database using oledb connectivity from visual studio.net 2005. The 'Sybase ASE OLE DB Provider' provider is not registered on the local machine.
I have a program written in VB 2008 express. It connects to an Access database via Jet4.0 OLEDB. It works fine on my computer running windows xp. It works fine on computers running Vista and Windows 7 that also have Access installed. Howerver when run on a computer with Windows 7 that does not have Access installed. The following Error Message appears whenever there is an attempt to access the database:
The 'MS JET.OLEDB 4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.Reviewing MS info, it appears that mdjet40.dll is found in XP and earlier and that syswow64.dll is found in Vista and later. What do I need to do to make my program run on all versions of Windows with or without Access installed?
I currently have a part of my program that uploads an image file MainChart.png from a set location (locally) to a set remote location(on the ftp server). What I would now like to do is be able to upload more than one file at the same time.
What I am currently doing is repeating the same block of code, but changing the image file name from MainChart.png to another one of the image file names, so have about 8 instances of this block of code, Where the file name is just changed.
Does anyone know how I can do this in just one block of code, rather than the program having to keep calling another Sub and logging onto the FTP site each time for each image file that I want to upload?
Private Sub FtpMainChart() ' FTP_URL, FTP_UserName & FTP_Password, are variables that hold the FTP credentials, declared earlier in the code.
Is it possible to point the install of ClickOnce to a directory of my choice on the local computer instead of caching it in Documents and Settingsuser? some place like c:Program FilesFoo Apps for example? I like the ClickOnce stuff a lot and especially the update on run functionality, but would like it independent from the user...
Dev/Usr Environment info: I am using VB Express '08 and SQL Express '05 for my applications in a corporate networking environment and the users will be installing from a network share drive. I have tested this and it works fine, just the location seems to be undesirable.
good database that I can use on a local machine to store names/addresses etc. and that integrates easily into .Net 2.0.I have used MySQL a fair bit, so something along that route would be great but without the need to install additional software on the computer or connect externally to a server.
I am using Visual Studio 2008, .NET Framework 3.5.
Basically what I am trying to do is have my webpage project folder located directly on my local machine (ex. Local #1).Our database is located on a server (ex. Server #1). I am building my web applications on my local machine and then trying to debug them in Visual Studio 2008. Only every single time I click to debug my project I get a "Security Exception" error that looks something like the following.[code]...

I am in the following situation: I have been requested to write an application for managing where we have customers - this must flag up when we try to add a customer too close to another one, so must be able to calculate distances based on post codes.I have chosen to use ASP.Net VB because I am fairly good at that and I like that the browser does all of the layout for me (using Java or C# would mean having to position each element individually).I have copied a few files from the company's website (which I also wrote) and modified them to account for the database structure we need for the new app.I have designed the database to account for the requirements of the new app.I have set up a website in IIS on port 81 through which to view the app.
