Getting Physical Path Of File In Project Directory?
Dec 15, 2011
I am using Environment.CurrentDirectory to get the current directory, i.e. "D:ChuttuProjectsLICinDebug"
But, I want to remove "inDebug"
How can I do that? Or is there any way so that I can get the directory up to "LIC"?
Actually this is my connection string:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|LIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
But when I use this and try to insert data into the DB, the data is not inserted. When I use the connection string with a physical path it starts working:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:Chuttu VBProjectsLICLIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
I am trying to get the physical path of the mdf file and use it in the connection string.
EDIT:
This piece of code works fine:
Private Sub save()
Dim con As New SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:Chuttu VBProjectsLICLIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True")
Well now i have an issue which is pointing in the use of "path's" physical and network.I have a SQL server on a Server machine and i have a desktop machine used as client.I'm runing from my client machine a stored procedure in order to add a streaming data base.But also before i run this procedure i run another one which prepare the desired "path", this procedure takes:
myPath="\ServerSharedFolderSQL
in order to run the first procedure i have to turn myPath in each physical name:
myPath="DriveLetter:PublicWorkFilesSQL"
Now my Issue is how i will have the physical path, which is build it on the server and which it's from very difficult (to imposible) to know it? Basically i need a function which will return me the physical path, which the implementation it's not knowing to me. My developing environment is vb.net 2010?
I need a method to know iis current wwwroot in VB.Net.
I need to get this information outside a web project (otherwise the problem would have a simple solution). I think I need to read this information from the registry, but I have no idea where to start looking.
I have a directory named reports inside my winform project in .net. My project name is AccountingReports and inside that Directory reports exists. So i need the way to access this path via code. In Asp.net we use Request.PhysicalApplicationPath property. So is there any method or property exists that will give me the root of my project
I'm creating a simple .NET console application where I want to save a file in a folder that's part of the root project, like so: SolutionName.ProjectNameTestData. I want to put test.xml into the TestData folder. However, when I go to save my XDocument, it saves it to SolutionName.ProjectNameinx86Debug Console est.xml.
I have a web application (built as a product) that contains an XSL stylesheet that I'd like to use in a console application I've written in VB.Net in support of that web application. Is there a way to automatically determine the physical path to where the web application is installed? I know that the IIS Metabase holds this information, I just don't know how to access it.
What I have is the path to the web site. For example: [URL]. I'd like to look up in the IIS Metabase (on a specific server) to find the physical path (For example: c:inetpubwwwrootmyapplicationfolder) Is this possible from a console application running on either that server or even another server? (assume the account running the process has full admin rights).
I am using vb.net and access. In which I have one field in which I have saved only the path of that image. Now I want to display that image in crystal report dynamic. I want to fetch the image path in crystal report and display in it.
I want the location of the current execution project i.e in VB.NET/C# or the current class file's path? Ok,let me elaborate i got 2 projects in one solution file,lets say A,B are projects, my startup project is B ,and im accessing a class file in A ,now i need to know virtual path of B. because i need it for accessing the resource file coz error pops up when using ExpressionBuilderContext
I have a VB 6.0 code that creates file/directory on given path. If the path is local or a mapped drive then it's working fine but if I am having a network path like \netpathputfileshere" then it is not working. If I mapped "\netpathputfileshere" to some x: drive on local then it will work fine BUT I need not mapped this path. So is there any way to do this directly on network path. I get error for ChDrive "\netpathpullfileshere"
I in my project i have two text box and 1 button and 1 openfile dialogue Event on Command Button in textbox1 i want a file directory with the file name & extension, which i have done well (like C:\files\readme.txt) but in textbox2 i want only the directory of the same file, means under which directory it stored (like C:\files\)
Here's my example code

I am running windows application in vb.net.I have a xml file named mail.xml in folder named XmlFiles.In default.aspx.vb i have to get the path of mail.xml.What code i hve to write to make it possible?
I'm running the following WMI script to get the associations between drive letters and physical drives on the system, but for some reason it omits CDROMs/DVD-ROMs. Can someone tell me how to get those as well?
Code: ComputerName = "." Set wmiServices = GetObject _ ("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=Impersonate}!//" & ComputerName) Set wmiDiskDrives = wmiServices.ExecQuery _ ("SELECT DeviceID FROM Win32_DiskDrive")
I'm trying to include a few text files in my project. These files are read and used to make decisions in the program. Ordinarily, I would just set the file path and open the file via StreamReader, no problem. However, this application now needs to work on other computers and I want to include the text files in the application directory. I've researched two ways to do this:
1) Include the files as resources and reference them via my.resources.
I've gotten this to work ok, except the files are opened as strings upon starting the application. They are fairly large files, which I imagine is taking a lot of unnecessary memory. Also, StreamReader wont work with these files as resources, or at least I can't figure out how to. My application is already based around using StreamReader so I don't really want to change this.
2) Include the files as additional items. I know how to do this too, but I can't reference the files programmatically.
Can I use a resource text file via StreamReader or how would I reference the files if they're included in my project directory?
I'm writing a Visual Studio Macro and need to read a XML file in my project and write something. i can't get the correct file path! in my web application solution i have to projects for business and UI files. and my xml file named fa.xml located on UI project in a separate folder. i want to use this macro for many solutions. but the structure is the same. How can I get the Path of a file in a specific project in my solution?
i have created a batch file and have added it to the project using add items. Basically what i am aiming at is to execute this file on a button click action. I am using System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("hello.bat") command to run this file i have changed the build action to resource for this batch file. But when i run this program, it is not able to locate the batch file. I am required to give a relative path as the path my vary from machine to machine. how can i make this file accessable using a relative path?
I am getting the following error when trying to open a vb .net 1.0 project using VS2002."Unable to open Web project 'ProjectName'.The file path 'FilePath' does not correspond to the URL 'ProjectURL'. The two need to map to the same server location. HTTP 404: Object Not Found."I have tried ALL of the links that Google threw at me (on the first page) on searching on "unable to open web project the two need to map to the same server location" term.I get this error when trying to open an existing vb.net 1.0 project and also when creating a new one.
I'm trying to output a resource file to a physical file on my hard drive. Here is what I have so far from researching but I think I'm doing it wrong.
Dim ms As New System.IO.MemoryStream(My.Resources.File1) Here is how I would do it in VB6, but I'm trying to catch up with the times and move on to the new stuff.
Dim c() As Byte Open Sysdir & "mswinsck.ocx" For Binary Access Write As #3 c = LoadResData(103, "Custom")
I'm a developer for a College we have an active directory.I need to query Active Directory with the Pc name and return it's path in the Active Directory tree.
I have a Access program and I'm using VBA code in the background to run Winunzip using shell command. Well, the path of the .zip file has spaces in it and it's not recongizing the path as a valid path. Is there a another way to tackle this problem besides the shell?I can't us pkzip either. Has you can see I had to use progra~1 instead of Program Files.[code]
