I have a web application (built as a product) that contains an XSL stylesheet that I'd like to use in a console application I've written in VB.Net in support of that web application. Is there a way to automatically determine the physical path to where the web application is installed? I know that the IIS Metabase holds this information, I just don't know how to access it.
What I have is the path to the web site. For example: [URL]. I'd like to look up in the IIS Metabase (on a specific server) to find the physical path
(For example: c:inetpubwwwrootmyapplicationfolder)
Is this possible from a console application running on either that server or even another server? (assume the account running the process has full admin rights).
I am using Environment.CurrentDirectory to get the current directory, i.e. "D:ChuttuProjectsLICinDebug"
But, I want to remove "inDebug"
How can I do that? Or is there any way so that I can get the directory up to "LIC"?
Actually this is my connection string:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|LIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
But when I use this and try to insert data into the DB, the data is not inserted. When I use the connection string with a physical path it starts working:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:Chuttu VBProjectsLICLIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
I am trying to get the physical path of the mdf file and use it in the connection string.
EDIT:
This piece of code works fine:
Private Sub save()
Dim con As New SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:Chuttu VBProjectsLICLIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True")

I have a website www.abc123.com. What would be the best way to determine when users attempt to access pages like[URL]..I've done some research and found that Request.PathInfo works quite well when the user visits www.abc123.com/Default.aspx/section1 but it does not work without having the Default.aspx portion included in the URL.
Right now all I get are 404 errors when attempting this with the built in IIS server in VS2k8 and on a published website. I'm using ASP.Net 3.5 and IIS 6 if those things matter.
I just made my first .net website. I'm trying to use the following line of code to load a file from the current directory ( same diredtory all the web files are in). I get a error saying file does not exist
InstallFormTemp = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("installerform.html")
I copied the file to my c drive and chnage the line to
InstallFormTemp = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("c:installerform.html")
it worked, but now my site has to run a godaddy's webserver, so I cannot save stuff in the c drive, just my web directory.
How can I get My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText to read files from the websites current directory?
here i am getting this path
System.Windows.Forms.Application.StartupPath
"D:ProjectsCompan1Compan1binDebug"
but i want to load report1.rpt that is reside in Reports folder under application root like we did in asp.net application
Dim rptPath As String = Server.MapPath("~/Reports/rpt1.rpt")
If ds.Tables(0).Rows.Count > 0 Then
'Report.Load(System.Windows.Forms.Application.StartupPath & "/Reports/" & ReportName & "")

Code:
Sub Main()
Dim Current As String
Dim Root As String
Current = Directory.getCurrentDirectory()
Root = Directory.GetDirectoryRoot(Current)
Root = Directory.GetDirectoryRoot("")
Console.WriteLine("Current directory {0}", Current)
Console.WriteLine("Root directory {0}", Root)
End Sub
However it just causes the error "name directory not declared"
I want to delete, copy, move, and rename files using the actual Windows confirmation dialogs.I am using SHFileOperation. My problem is, that, when I want to move a folder with this path:

And I set the destination to:
"C:UsersTest"
And (THIS PART IS IMPORTANT) the APPLICATION start from say
"D:MyApp.exe"

I have a dynamic path and every time I want to check it and if it is the root of drive warn user, so I am doing this:
Code:
If MyPath = Directory.GetDirectoryRoot(MyPath) Then
'Warn user
End if
MyPath is returned from a control like FolderBrowseDialog so I'm sure it cannot be an invalid path...
I am currently using the Directory.GetFiles("Path of folder", "Specific Data") to search a folder for specific files and then do something with those files - this works perfectly. However i would like to search all sub folders within the top level folder also.I have seen ways to return what directories exist within the top level - which i could then use to search but was wondering if there is an easier way.
View 5 RepliesMy website is in the root directory, which is [URL]. I am using this:
Dim appPath As String = HttpContext.Current.Request.ApplicationPath
Dim directory As String = appPath & "/upload/" & Left(TableName, 2) & "/"
to get the path and it's working very well. But when I create a new sub-folder and copy some pages from the root directory into the sub-folder, my images are not displayed because the path has changed. This is the link from the page in the root directory:

How can I access some of the Geo encoding for a website I am making?I would like to extract the location information of where the site is being viewed/used at. This would allow the check-in process to go more smoothly when the users do.
View 3 RepliesI've been working on some code to rename files and have being doing so by copying them to the same location under a different name and then removing the original. When I do this for files I use the code ...
Dim file As New System.IO.FileInfo(lstFiles.SelectedItem.ToString)
Dim strNewFile As String
Dim strRename As String
Dim strMask As String = ""
[code]....
This will obviously not work as it will try to copy the folder into itself which is not allowed.
I am developing an application where I have a file url such as
"C:/Tom/Says/Hello/file.txt"
I have in the past removed the directory from the string to leave me with "file.txt", but this time the directory may be different so I cannot just take away "C:/Tom/Says/Hello/" from the string. How can I get rid of the directory location and just leave me with "file.txt" when the directory will be different everytime?
I can already download one file at a time (as long as i know the file name) from my web server using :[code]But I want to be able to simply download everything in the url... is there any simple method for doing this in visual studio 2008 vb

I am trying to write a simple Visual Basic 2008 installer that copies word macro templates to Word's startup directory. On Vista and 7, that directory is the user's AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWordSTARTUP directory. Is there a way that I can programmatically find this directory? I.e. is it safe to say that this directory will almost always be in this location such that I can simply get the user's home directory and then add AppDataetc.... or is there a registry or something else that I can access to get Word's current standard startup directory?
